You don't do any extra distance. Garmin accuracy is about 96-98% That could mean 4% extra shows. So 27.4 wouldn't be out of the question. 26.7 would be more realistic. Additionally it could go haywire round canary wharf which will banjax your whole strategy if it suddenly bungs on an extra mile or more.
Get a pace band and check your pace against the markers they'll be bang on. Use the garmin as a guide.
Have a week off work this week and have been going out for an hour every day.
Put my kit on today and then asked myself what I was doing. Wednesday is rest day and I'm supposed to be tapering. I don't have to run. Have taken my kit off now.

It's best to see everything in a positive light at this stage. I'd put this down as a useful dress-rehearsal for race day, without having expended any energy.
TimR- Unless you are an elite or at the very pointy end, I would expect to run more than the set 26.2 miles not due to garmin inaccuracy, but because i have had to move from the race line to (hopefully) overtake people. You do that 2/3 times a mile for 26 and it adds up.
I hope its paranoia but I think I am coming down with something, I woke up feeling bunged up I am now feeling hot and have a headache as long as it stays off my chest i'm a happy runner.
Noooo - can feel the start of a cold with 6 days to go! Just a bit of a sore throat at the moment but that's how a full blown cold usually starts with me. I never usually take vitimins or anything but willing to try anything to stop it getting worse. I've read zinc is supposedly a good start - lozenges / pills?? Any advice??
my head cold passed in about 3 days started the same way I just have loads of lucozade original not sure if its a placebo but always seems to help me tackle a cold and also eating more vitamin 3 rich foods.
London will be my first marathon - I had to defer last year because I shattered my elbow. While training. In the snow. Was searching the forum to see if anyone else is feeling a bit crazy as they taper.
I think I'm particularly struggling as I know I can't defer again. I've even started to look at which other marathons have places in case of some sort of last minute disaster. Agh! I think that the sort of race where you stand around a field and someone says "Go!" are a lot less stressful
I know this sounds odd but I agree with you standing in a half empty field/street is much more comforting. I am worried about feeling claustrophobic in the starting pens, I hope everyone remembers deodorant.
It's the first few hundred yards in the pens when you have to dodge all the discarded water bottles and banana skins or the flying overhead objects as people "safely" discard that old tshirt/ bin bag / poncho that was keeping them warm, but it's all good fun
That all worries me too - is it best to try and get to the edges of the pen? I still have a very sore elbow so I'll be trying my best to not get bashed about at the beginning.
Rachel, I think in the middles better you can always find a safe pocket, outside edges is where the projectiles land when runners find out they are indeed runners and not shotputters
Went for a 5k last night accidentaley race it for first 2 miles before I realised i'm running a marathon in 3 days time but finished 15 secs off of a PB definitely helps me realise I havn't lost much if any speed.

According to my iPhone app I ran 49miles in 6minutes last Wednesday. I'm not sure that was because I wasn't staying on the pavement.
Timr were you leaping tall buldings with a single bound?

thanks martin I will watch out for projectiles.
Rachel have you thought of head butting people out the way instead of elbowing them? (only joking you may have a headache by mile 20)
Jaymac you are very welcome
