Tuesday 22nd April - printed on page 2 of this year's 'Race Instructions' magazine thing

  • charities are already advertising for bo.nd places in 2015 get your pennies ready

  • Thanks LS21!

I will make sure I set my alarm early on the 22nd. I did a golden bond place once, the charity were great ( CLDF) but raising the money was very difficult. Decided I would just enter the ballot every year until I got in again.

  • Oh don't people say they manage to enter just after midnight on the day entries open and don't they close within a few hours?  Let the panic begin image

  • I'm going to camp out in my living room from tonight.....so that i am first in the queue by my computer for when the ballot opens....

  • I'm going to ignore the race completely -

does that actually work? Wasn't that bothered this year but now I have serious marathon envy. Never thought I would say that!

  • How long did it take for this year's ballot to fill up?

  • NayanNayan ✭✭✭

It was full within 10 mins. amnasty international, cancer research and the royal society for the prevention of fwuffy bunny trauma took all the places.

  • booktrunkbooktrunk ✭✭✭

Does that mean if I exterminate lots and lots of fwuffy bunnies I have more of a chance?

  • booktrunkbooktrunk ✭✭✭

Lisalamb: don't worry you have weeks and weeks *

    * technically I'm not quite right, about 11 hours last year.

  • CindersCinders ✭✭✭

Yup, about 11 hours last year and that was 6 hours quicker than the year before.

  • Can anyone help me; if I sign up via the ballot for VLM 2015, when do they take the entry fee for the race, now? Or in October when places are confirmed?

Also, if I pay now, and I don't get a place, do I get my money back ?

    Thanks image

Jeez, does it really close that fast?

I'd like to know the same as Jazz, and also what personal info they need for the ballot entry, as I've got to enter my friend as well as he's away on the day the ballot opens.

Does it really open at midnight?  Don't particularly want to stay up to do it!

    Thanks image

  • You can chose whether you pay upfront or not. If you pay upfront there are no refunds so you have to bequeath your entry fee.

If you don't pay and get a place you have a certain amount of time to pay up after you get your entry.

  • Is there DEFINITELY no refunds if you pay upfront?

Does paying upfront give you a better chance of getting a place?

To be honest, I've heard there are far better/more scenic marathons in the UK, but the big name is certainly luring me in...image

  • If you have a GFA time does that guarantee an entry or is it still not definate?

  • CindersCinders ✭✭✭

Yes, definitely no refunds.  You bequeath your entry and get a fleece and I think a chance of another 1000 ballot places.

  • GFA guaranteed as long as time  achieved is since January 1st the previous year

  • Cinders is right, it gives you a small chance of getting one of the 1000 extra places.

Paying upfront does not give you a better chance of a place. The first year in 5 that I didn't bequeath was the year I got in.

No refunds, paying upfront no better. GFA is guaranteed - not guaranteed they won't move the goalposts again so best to get well within. Lots of other lovely UK marathons   . did London Sunday and must admit it was a great atmosphere and ran a GFA so I will go back.

  • Better set my alarm, and remind my friends as well!!  Certainly want another shot at running this race again.

There is still no information on the VLM website as to when the ballot opens - given that it's supposedly 22 April it would be good if they could update the information on there!

  • There's a message on the homepage saying it opens soon.

  • It opens on 22nd April:

The public ballot entry system for next year's Virgin Money London Marathon will open to all applicants on Tuesday 22 April 2014 at www.virginmoneylondonmarathon.com. The ballot entry system will close when we have received a total of 125,000 applications. Last year the ballot reached this maximum in just 11 hours and 25 minutes, so get your application in fast!  ???
