Someone running in an Iron Man costume on the front - this is the third rejection I've had, I don't think I've ever looked at the magazine, just put it straight in the recycling!
Got my "No" magazine today . 2nd try so 3 more to go? What is Edinburgh like CB69? Looks as if there is a nice downhill bit at the beginning?
not sure what you mean by 3 more to go...........they stopped the 5 rejections and a guaranteed place a few years back......left to the ballot you might never ever get in
7th year in a row of ballot rejections. Jeez that sucks. And yet some tw@t who wants to dress up as a ninja turtle and run / walk it in 6 hours after 4 weeks half arsed training will get a place. But im not bitter or anything
Good job I got a club place last year anyway. lol.
sean. they probably deserve it more as they are raising money for charity and giving the crowds something to see..there are enough middle aged average men running already....gets boring..
those who deserve a place get one on the GFA......all the others are in the ballot and are equally deserving

Middle aged and average!!!! You've got the wrong person guvnor. Besides, the charity places are separate to the ballot anyway so that dosent even enter the discussion.

I enjoyed Edinburgh - yes, nice downhill section and not much in the way of uphill. The crowd support is fab (although it gets quiet around 17 - 20 miles, just when you might need it most!). It was my first marathon though so I don't have anything to compare it against.
I know there was a lot of negative feedback on here but I think that was mainly due to the publication (or not) of results, rather than the race itself.
Thanks CB69 - that's very helpful to know your thoughts on the Edinburgh Marathon. I'll give it some thought. Seren Nos - as far as raising money for charity for the London Marathon is concerned, yes great idea and I've done just that at the recent Great North Run for Alzheimer's Society so wouldn't feel comfortable asking all my family/friends to contribute again so soon. Sean - how unlucky being rejected from the ballot 7 times - I can understand your annoyance!! As Tom Lunt says, the ballot is obviously run by pre-selected aliens! ;-)
Jillie Townend, I did Edinburgh Marathon as my first one after missing out on London. The course was quite good, as mentioned a bit sparse on the spectator front from 17-21 miles. The last km was quite tough as people had pushed onto the course and there was absolutely no chance of overtaking if you had anything left. The organisation after the race was not good. You pay in advance for a bus ticket but what you're not told is the bus station is a good couple of miles from the finish and up a small hill. Not the best end to an otherwise enjoyable run. May be best to try to catch a local bus if you choose to do Edinburgh
Thanks Uluru for your input. I'm hearing from a few people now that the organisation is somewhat questionable .... but there's always hope that next year they will have it cracked? Or maybe not? As far as the last km and finding extra petrol in the tank - usually this doesn't apply to me as unfortunately my failing is I race off too fast at the beginning and usually end up regretting it and watching everyone else overtaking me and enjoying the negative split! Transport sounds a bit of a nightmare afterwards too.
Just jumped in at the end of this thread but can I advise anyone who'll listen against doing Edinburgh. Ive done it twice. My first marathon was there. I've since done another 13 at other locations. Edinburgh remains by some distance the worst two marathons I've done. Other than it being flat there are no redeeming features at all. The organisers just want your cash and don't give too hoots about your race experience. Don't give them your cash. Do Manchester, Brighton, Paris, Prague, Barcelona. Seriously you won't regret it. I regret my first time being at Edinburgh but I'll not make that mistake again. PS I love Edinburgh as a city, I love the Scottish people but the marathon runs out of the city as quick as possible never to return until you've queue ages for a bus having trekked miles uphill to catch it back from Musselbrough.

Apple: have you ran manchester before? I've ran last 2 years, fantastic race and really flat
Has anyone found out if they are in or not yet? Or have any idea when we find out?
Week or two, just chill until you get a Y or N magazine.

If mine is a no again tomorrow I think it will be number 8. Plenty on here who have more rejections than that!
So does anyone have a yes mag from today? Or have all todays arrivals been a no?

Good luck Cinders - fingers crossed for you!
