Where's the high gone?

I have been looking at where I spend my time recently and thinking about my motivation for running.  One of the reasons I got hooked on running in the first place (many years ago) was the endorphin high I got afterwards.

Recently I've been doing longer (20k - usually they're around 10k) runs, and after one fast one I got a high that made me think "hey, it used to be like this every time!" whereas even after a hard 10k run or a PB I don't generally get that feeling any more.  I try and mix things up a bit: training for a mountain marathon so lots of hills/off road/running with weights.  But it's rare to come back with a big grin on my face.

Am I just getting lazy and not pushing myself like I used to?  Or do you get used to particular distances and need to do something different to get the same rush?  I'm not going to stop running (perish the thought!) but I'm interested in others' experiences.
