Just been told that one of the participants in a half marathon that I ran last weekend did it on a scooter! He got what would have been quite a good time for a runner (much, much better than I could do anyway!).
I can't imagine that it would be too easy to do, but it's not running by any stretch of the imagination.
I'm not really sure what to think about it, as it doesn't seem to be specifically forbidden in the rules, but it definitely seems wrong to me!
What do you all think? Have you seen this kind of thing at any events in the UK?

In what country did the event take place? And what rules was it run under?
Denmark. It was Lillebælt Halvmarathon. I think it's run under the IAAF rules.
Might do a half in Denmark myself, as I fancy a PB. I think I'll take my moped.
A few of us have been saying the same! It's the only way I'll ever get near a 1 hour 19 HM anyway.
Having had a go on one of my children's scooter before you can get some right speed up on them things!
You'll be shocked to hear it's definitely against IAAF rules!
A scooter is an "technology or appliance that provides the user with an advantage" and is thus considered to be giving the athlete assistance. Sorry to brush away your dreams of an easy PB.
Not shocked, but definitely glad to hear it! Thanks for that Billy Bob!
In case anyone feels the need for proof that this actually happened, the bloke in question came in 60th place, and can be seen in both photos and video on the results page.
