I saw Midge Ure in the last year at Chatham Central Hall, he did a Visage number or too as well and the classic Vienna from Ultravox. It was quite funny as me (and my then boyfriend) were in the upper circle at the back and looked down on everyone's grey hair or bald heads (men only), I felt positively young. (He didn't as he is balding himself, he, he.)
Following is a list of all the singles that reached number 1 in 1980. What a Karaoke medley they would make! I reckon I could do all of them.
Another Brick in the Wall , Pink Floyd Brass in Pocket , Pretenders Too Much Too Young / Guns of Navarone , Specials Coward of the County , Kenny Rogers Atomic , Blondie Going Underground / Dreams of Children , The Jam Working My Way Back to You / Forever Me Girl , Detroit Spinners Call Me , Blondie Geno , Dexy's Midnight Runners What's Another Year , Johnny Logan The Theme from MASH (Suicide is Painless) , MASH Crying , Don McLean Xanadu , Olivia Newton-John / ELO Use It Up and Wear It Out , Odyssey Winner Takes It All , ABBA Ashes To Ashes , David Bowie Start , The Jam Feels Like I'm In Love , Kelly Marie Don't Stand So Close To Me , The Police Woman in Love , Barbara Streisand The Tide is High , Blondie Super Trouper , ABBA (Just Like) Starting Over , John Lennon There's No One Quite Like Grandma , Saint Winifred's School Choir
I saw Mike Peters of The Alarm doing a solo spot supporting the (wonderful) Saw Doctors a few years ago. And very good he was too.
I seem to remember seeing Mike Scott from the Waterboys (they saw the whole of the moon, don't you know) about 5 years also supporting the (still wonderful) Saw Doctors at Battersea Power Station.

"We stood still.
We all stood still.
Still stood still.
We're standing still."
That's from the classic All Stood Still. I wonder if they're still standing there?
I used to do school X-C runs with Andy McCluskey at Calday Grange GS. Yes - he was a runner once.....
Anyone remember a band called "The Fixx"?
"In The Year 2525" was, I think, by Zager and Evans, though I could be wrong.
I would bring up some other 80s bands, but I'm just.... TOO SHY-SHY, HUSH-HUSH, EYE-DOO-WHY!

Surely not John Peel's all time favourite - thought that was "Teenage Kicks" by the Undertones.
