i've just read back on this thread from last night, and i'm a little concerned on how easily BK 'lured' benz to the dark side. You definately have to watch out for them..!
Was there a band called splodgenessabounds or something like that ? or were they a figment of my imagination. I think they were a a one hit wonder - can't recall the song though. ?
Talking Heads - genius, nuff said. David Byrne still doing great things.
'Once in a lifetine' is always coming into my head and making me smile. I have not foudn myself with a beautiful wife, a large house, nor a large automobilem, you see, and I do keep having to ask 'How did I get here?'
I forgot The Wonderstuff! They were just about 80s - top band. And Altered Images...my husband doesn't believe me when I tell him that Claire Grogan was in Red Dwarf in the 90s. Anyone back me up on that?
And how about Ten Pole Tudors other hit Throwing My Baby Out With The Bathwater
And don't forget Heaven 17. Going back to the earlier post about first purchases, my first single was Julie Anne by Kenny and I think my first album was Jailbreak by Thin Lizzy.
One of the first albums I purchased as a youth was ‘My Generation’ by The Who on German import – I’ve just noticed it has now been released for the first time on CD – now there is one album I’m going to add to my collection.
She Sells Sanctuary - yes another top tune by The Cult Gareth L, also Firewoman, and Edie (ciao baby) and try running to Spiritwalker....fab! Going to put my Pure Cult CD on now.....
The Stuffies count as 80s since I first encountered them in '88 when they released "It's Yer Money I'm After Baby". Saw them again a couple of years ago when they re-formed. Not quite as good as the old days, but still very good!
Claire Grogan in "Red Dwarf"? Now this one I'll admit to having looked up. I can remember her as a private detective in "EastEnders", but not "RD". And the answer is....yes, she played Kochanksi in Series 1.
From "Red Dwarf" website http://www.reddwarf.co.uk - "Kochanski actress Clare Grogan was lead singer with Altered Images, although the role was originally given to Brookside actress Alexandra Pigg (who was unavailable for new recording dates following an electrician's strike). Clare had to be credited as 'C.P.' to avoid confusion with existing Equity actress Claire Grogan - a problem which even fooled the make-up team, who had a picture of the wrong Grogan all ready for the first recording day!"

You definately have to watch out for them..!
'Echo Beach' - Martha and the muffins
Badgers love that one.
Also lots of Mr A's list
Seriously best 1980s (and end of 70's) band however has to be....
Talking Heads
spawned a style known (briefly) as "punk pathetique"
their song.. 2 pints of lager and a packet of crisps! how could you forget that!
try adding .com for more info
And Joy division
From memory, I think XTC also did "Making Plans for Nigel" and "All The Pretty Girls"? Might be wrong on that second one though.
"Stop Making Sense" was a wonderful film, and very good album. "Burning Down The House" was always one of my favourites.

Hanoi Rocks are touring again!
And Patricia Morrison (who used to be in The Sisters) now plays with The Damned...
We must look together, for the Pan within'
Waterboys anybody?
(Think that might be one for the darkside!!)
Another Girl, Another Planet - The Only Ones - one of the best intros in the history of music
Sun King - The Cult - another great intro (has to be very loud though) - quite simply one of the best songs of all time
And I'm going to see A-Ha on Saturday to rediscover my 80s teenage crush on Morten Harket....
I'm off to see Saint Etienne tonight - not very 80s, just thought I'd mention it...
And in a couple of weeks time, I'm off to see Bruce Springsteen (which is definitely 70s/80s) having queued for 16 hours for tickets!
And don't forget Heaven 17. Going back to the earlier post about first purchases, my first single was Julie Anne by Kenny and I think my first album was Jailbreak by Thin Lizzy.
GFB
Mr A
Can I come with you to both?
I've always loved Bruce - saw him in Leeds Roundhay Park 1985.
Best intro ever though has to be Joy Division's The Only Mistake

Kinks - Waterloo sunset, also one of my top 5. although i know this is supposed to be an 80's thread.
Pinball wizard......marvellous.
