Austria was only my 3rd IM and being one of the 3 originals that spawned the anniversary i am very proud, I hope it works out for everyone and that we can go. It's not a fit for school holidays but we can maybe make an exception.
As for the advice to get a spot, get online when it opens and book one, if you don't manage it, use nirvana or endurancesporttravel to get your spot, schimples !!
I used Nirvana for my 1st Ironman in Austria in 2011. must admit didn't have great service from them and they are pricey. The main problem is that we flew sleazy jet to Slovenia and there was only one flight a day. As we took pushed back off the stand at Stansted we could see 10-20 bike boxes left on the Tarmac as there hadn't been room on the flight! Some people never got their bikes........not Nirvanas fault but was one if many things that went "wrong"
I would love to go but its just not possible next year hoping the Championship race will be in the UK in 2016. Still that gives me an extra year to try and get faster.
The thing is we've already had Outlaw and Henley. Henley didn't prove particularly popular in the end and I'm not sure that the group would want to have Outlaw as champs again so soon. Anecdotal evidence suggests it's more popular to have the champs at a warmer, mainland European location.
in 2009 the hostel ran out of money and got in warm cans from the supermarket and charged us a fortune I seem to remember
I think it might have been us that ran out of money, hostel seemed very happy, apart from the noise on the Thursday night, and Friday night, err, and Saturday and Sunday too, oops. Apparently some people staying there were doing something called an Ironman and needed quiet
Definitely accommodation. As soon as we were in we contacted a number of possibilities. A few had already gone but we did manage to get a choice including the YH.
We opted for one relatively close to the Race HQ in the end but they would only take bookings for 7 days at a time Which was fine for us (good excuse to turn it into a holiday).
I am heading over to Austria this year so will sadly miss the PSOF next.
Flights are booked to Munich (very cheap with Sleazyjet) and we’re hiring a car for the onward journey to Klaggers.
Because I am being accompanied by OH (so there will be a fresh pair of legs for driving on race day) we have taken a one bed apartment at Das Domizil, on the outskirts of town:
Albeit pricey for a five day stay, in contrast to everything else that was on offer, it was cheap (EUR 570 for 5 nights).
I made the booking directly with the owner of the apartment who seems perfectly pleasant and has himself taken part in IMA on a few previous occasions. I paid when booking an 80% deposit which I am told is fully refundable if booking is cancelled no later than 30 days prior (my deadline has now passed)!
I was a little apprehensive that I had to make a direct bank transfer (little recourse if this is a sham) but rest assured I will be jumping on this thread to warn others if I arrive to find I’ve had my leg lifted.
As it stands, it seems a pretty decent deal.
I’m sure the owner wouldn’t be keen to have me publish his details on here but if anyone would like his name, e-mail and telephone number, drop me a PM and I’ll pass them on.
Shame it doesn't look like IM Austria will fit into my race plans next year as too close to other events. Might try to fit in Outlaw Half as seems to be plenty pirates doing that event each year.

Def think we need to get onto accommodation ASAP though, as Meldy said.

Oh and IMA's official "look how popular we are - this is how quickly we sold out" e-mail quoted 17 hours for 2014 entries.
That seems standard Robbie. We had to pay €300 to book the room by bank transfer and then the outstanding amount a feW weeks ago.

C'mon kids, Port Macquarie, May 2015, you know it makes sense. I'm in
But happy to pop back up to the top of the world to kick ass for the appropriate appearance fee to cover logistics, divorce costs, bar bill etc
Gladys - Enough lurking and commit, you know you want to. About time you got back to some proper training.
Raf - As your not racing this year you need to make sure your in for next year.
