as Will says - yep! we stayed on it for IMA in 2007 - it couldn't be better sited. on race morning you have the luxury of putting your wetsuit on at your tent/caravan/motorhome and then strolling to the start about 5mins away. finish, stroll back for a shower, and then head back to see all the others finishing as you return all freshly buffed and polished.
Campsite does look really good, and very close, but I'm not a natural camper. Also, as I'll be flying in alone, I can't be arsed hauling any more gear than necessary. A proper bed in the youth hostel looks like the way forward
Stayed at the Plattenwirt this year and have rebooked for next year. Just across the road from the expo, very handy for start/finish and about 10min walk from transition. Downside is that they'll only accept 7 day bookings around race weekend.
Hire a caravan on a campsite would be fab Failing that more likely to be hotel for me even if 7 nights is a bit hefty....especially as I can't travel out until after the last exam that week..............
Definitely want to be near start / finish though after a bad experience at Antwerp 70.3 a few years ago....
For next year most basic room (small double with ensuite) is about 750Eu$. One step up for a slightly larger double with ensuite is 980Eu$.
I took the smaller standard room this year and there was just about enough room for 1 person and a bike. Other half of the 'double' bed was very useful for laying out kit though Splashing out for the slightly larger room next year.
Above those, and probably better for sharing are the 'business' rooms which are about twice the size - will cost around 1270 without a balcony or 1300 with balcony.
Prices include an excellent breakfast buffet and all taxes.
Although they may not show bookings available on-line yet, if you e-mail them they will take your booking - or at least, they did last year.
We had a business room with balcony. The balcony looks out onto the run course, very useful for supporting Trogs et al (although it did feel a bit Romeo and Juliet).
The room was massive, enough to swing Toucs around. Never mind the cat
HC - Yes thanks. Emailed last night reply this morning and just emailed back to confirm. Can't believe I've actually booked a hotel for a year in advance. My husband and I usually book things about a month before we want to go anywhere
Please someone tell me I don't need to do my flights now
Have checked with the campsite. They don't hire caravans, but a company close by do. They will deliver to the site for €120-150, but you need to hire the van for a week minimum @ €39 per day (but will probably go up because of Ironman), then pay site fees etc.
Think I will stick to a tent, as I'm doing this on a budget. 80 sq metre pitch is €11 per night, and each adult is €11 per night. You should be able to get multiple tents on a single pitch?
Comments
I thought about letting someone else organise it
Hopefully someone who did IMAT will be on to advise.
I emailed the YH a while back but won't be aBle to contact them back for a while ... If someone could drop them a line I think it would be prudent?
I'm in the ;process of booking the camp site

I'm with you re the proper bed.....although I'm not a good room share
I'm driving over in a large motor-home ... non of the dodgy ten stuff
I've emailed the campsite to see if they have caravans to hire?
Ooh, keep us posted BYF

Trogs, how much was it for 7 days?
Trogs. They don't seem to be taking bookings that far ahead?
750 euros for a week for the smallest room......i have copied this from another website so can't confirm if it is accurate

Southern Snail, did you have any luck?
That makes 30
I think you might be disappointed on that one. I think they did offer that service when we 1st went in 2007 but no longer
