Comrades 2015

As the newest UK member of the Green number club, I thought I may as well get ready for next year image.

My hat is in the ring too!image

  • I'll be there !

  • Just checking in.

I've been inspired reading the 2014 forum, and plan to give it a go for the first time

  • Mmm, what can I say, thoughts of Double Green have definately crossed my mind image

  • Not as crazy a thought Douglas as me picking up my Green number age 70yrs!

  • Mc Hilly...that was me 12 months ago! I had just completed my first 26.2m race so I found the input on this forum pretty much invaluable.  I also joined a running club (if you aren't a member already) because I found joining others the best way to start building up those long slow weekend runs as early as possible (and it keeps them a lot more interesting)

  • I'll be there as well. Next year will hopefully be medal number 6, so I'm still a long way behind the veterans SD and Douglas, but I have age on my side image

I am determined to get this race right next year!!!!

  • Arrived back in the UK from Durban Wednesday afternoon and begun training for the 'up' run early Thursday morning, scaling the 175 stairs at Russell Square tube station.

    I'm in!

I'm in .. Going for number 7 next year!!

I don't think I'm in, but i'll be following you all with interest again. Jacquie, M&D got stuck on the wrong side of the motorway trying to get home and missed it all, in case you were wondering why they were not there to shout for you!

In. It's got to be done.
  • I think I'll be giving the race a year off in favour of Transvulcania but it's only June and who knows what my stupid head might make me do?

I want to give sub 9 one more try.  In 2013 the weather was not on my side and in 2014 the training did not go as well as in 2013 as Comrades was not the focus for the first part of the year.  Can't complain at a 9:25 and a 9:20 but I think that I can do better.

  • I've just entered the Seagrave Challenge Becca - are you going for it too?

  • Becca7Becca7 ✭✭✭

Yes, Seagrave for me again WA.  Nice race.

  • Is this happening already?

After 60 km i vowed no...but you are all such a nice bunch of people.. hmmm.

Two Oceans def for me in 2015, not sure I can do that pain again. We'll see...

best of luck for next year everyone. No back to back for me but will be going for two oceans in 2016 and hopefully the up run the year after

  • Carmen, see you at both next year then image

  • nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!

  • Nope - not me. I'm a woman of my word and said no more after getting my B2B this year and bronze which I missed last year. I will however, lurk on here just to keep tabs on you all. It has been an amazing experience but I will gracefully bow out. Am looking at Two Oceans hopefully for 2016 and have my long suffering, non-running man almost signed up for the idea as this time, he's coming with me !!!

I wish you all well, have made some great friends and I know we will see each other on the marathon circuit. Onwards and upwards for me to get to 100 marathons...only 46 to do......PAH ! That'll keep me busy enough. image

  • When does TO open? Can't seem to see it on its website

So sad to see a man died a few days after Comrades this year. Collapsed at finish line, there are pix of him being stretchered over the line. 39 years old.
  • Carmen, Hadn't heard about the death, so sad and do feel for his family RIP!

During the race I too was thinking nothing could get me competing again (especially the up run!) crossing the line there was a slim chance of coming back for a B2B, showered and changed and looking like 5050, Monday morning feeling good and almost there, now waiting for the entry to open!

    Also considering TO next year.

Congrats possum on your B2B and bronze, good luck to everyone for 2015.

  • Thanks Jwheezy - IMO the Up run is not quite as tough as the Down.....IMO. image

  • Your welcome Possum, still cannot fathom how the up run is not harder then the down? But so many people have said that is the case ,so I'll go with the masses on this one!

    I'm in for 2015

I'll be going for my second Bill Rowan medal and third finish.

In 2013 I was in great shape for a Bill Rowan.  I got tonsillitis 42 hours before the start and spent most of the preceding hours in bed.  I was helped by a doctor with 8 finishes to get to the start. I was still ill when the gun fired and not sure if I could even get to the first cut-off.   The last 5 hours were the hardest run of my life in the 32C heat and 20mph headwind.  The inevitable collapse came at 4km to go and I had to walk home for 9:23.

I just have to find out of I'll be an international runner or a local runner.  I have a first interview for a job in Durban tomorrow.

    Bike it - GOOD LUCK!
