  • Fido, I think officially they are meant to go to the back of Garden Court Hotel (where the pick ups are for the Down run) but depending on the bus driver and number of requests, it tends to make unofficial stops at some hotels on the way back...

Yes, I was glad that the bus dropped me off outside the City Lodge, which it was going past already.

    Hi,

Just thought I am popping in showing some interest. I should be able to qualify at the end of October, hopefully it won't be sold out at that point. Looking at their web page people can only start to qualify from this month onwards, so it should slow it down a bit.

But reading page 6 here I am now wondering if I can enter next week when it opens, then add a race time when it comes, even update that if I should run a better marathon in Spring next year?

I should be running a marathon in 4:00 to 4:20 now, but if I can train through winter properly I might be alb ego get back to 3:45ish again.

Never done any ultra. I entered one in 2013 but got injured (during a rest week) and didn't manage to run it. Now I am thinking this one could be good for a midlife crisis endeavour.

    Cheers,

    Lars

Lars, I'm a first timer, so no expert, but my understanding is you can enter and then qualify, that's certainly my plan! My marathon times, ambitions seem similar to yours, so far never done more than a marathon, but am looking forward to the challenge!

You can enter starting at midnight tomorrow, SA time.  You only need to submit your qualifier much later - so go ahead and enter now.  It's the 90th anniversary edition and they are expecting a big crowd.

The thought of the bus back to Durban is not appealing - anyone stay in P'burg that night?  How was that?

  • Copious amounts of castle light in the international tent post race will make the journey back to Durban more tolerable...image

  • The bus back after the Up run is probably my least favourite part of the Comrades experience... The queueing to get onto the bus, the age it takes for the buses to get out of the car park, the interminably long journey back to Durban... as Stephen says, best bet is to have a few beers and try to sleep on the journey back...

Or leave a hire car in Pburg and get the route tour bus back to Durban....   I think that's what I might do.

  • Dannirr - my first, I did stay in PMB, but getting out of the stadium itself was a nightmare. We stayed at the casino and my poor OH eventually found some crisps... TBH my issue is more the dreadful state I end up in at the end (green and nauseous and just really unwell, I think anyone who's seen me at the finish will agree) . Tips on how to ameliorate that would be very welcome(!).

Mc Hilly great to see you and chat!!

Got my entry in. Well too tired to look for hotel and flight now.

I booked myself onto the Friday tour as well, with an outside chance of getting in a Saturday parkrun, while I am there. Apparently it is a really stupid idea, but I like parkrun.

  • DannirrDannirr ✭✭✭

I'm in.  Hotel booked too.  Even bought their special edition watch!

The parkrun is a lot of fun - most of us did it last year.

  • LarsLars ✭✭✭

Didn't buy the watch, it looked to 'Lance Armstrong' for me. But for £fish you can't really go wrong.

I am thinking of travelling Wednesday (arriving Thursday) to Wednesday (arrive back on Thursday), does it sound too short or too long for a place like Durban?

  • Its plenty time.  If you've ever been there it will give you some tourist time.

  • I usually arrive Thursday and leave Tuesday... that works for me, traveling alone, just in SA for Comrades...

  • Thats me in for another year!  Good to see some of the other old faces heading back as well (and some new ones).  Looks like I will still be in Angola, so will spend as much time as I can in SA.

  • Part of me would like to go back but at the moment everything hurts!

  • I'm in.  Arriving Thursday afternoon and leaving Tuesday evening, travelling with Emirates again.  Hilton rather than City Lodge for me this year.

  • I'm in again too, not sure when I'll be travelling but staying in Hillcrest.

  • I'm in and trip booked, going sunday before till Thursday after. image

Devon Runner 2, I'm southwest North Devon if that helps?

  • I'm in too, arriving Thurs departing following Sunday, will be my first trip to SA, so nearer the time will be looking for some tourist advice to fill my dys after the run.
  • I'm in.  Arrive Thursday. Leave the following Thursday.

Loads of us did parkrun last year, was brilliant.  Nearly 1000 people took part.

loosened off the legs nicely before a day of sunbathing at suncoast casino!

  • Bored at work so just popped on here. Lovely to see you all entering and getting the chat going. I won't be going back as did my B2B this year and got the time and medal I wanted after two amazing years and know I will see so many of you at UK based events - I already have done !! Onwards and upwards to get into the 100 marathon club for me, at a pace that will keep me and my family sane. 40 to go so I will be busy to get to my planned target in summer 2016 - gotta have a plan !!

SO...just want to wish you ALL the very best, happy and safe training and I will be an occasional lurker and look forward to tracking lots of you on the day......it's going to be tough to stay away.  image

  • I'm in for a back to back. See you there. Good luck all.

  • Well, I've gone and entered again... :P

  • Both Camilla and I are in. More hill training this year so I don't have to walk up them all!

  • Somehow my browser thingy clicked on the entry link and before i knew it i had an entry.image

  • I'm all entered too.. We're going for a bit longer than most. Flying to Durbs on 13th of May, then fly home on 9th June. Hoping to make a mission up to Zimbabwe to see some family. Run a bit there and then back for the comrades itself.. Cant wait..

If you're looking for an out of durban place to stay. Check out Umhlanga Rocks.. Some very good hotels there and a lot different to the hustle and bustle of Durban itself

  • I'm in too. Really had to think about it, as I had such an amazing time last year I didn't want to go back and be disappointed that the second time wasn't as good. But I have to have a go at the back to back, don't I?

  • I'm in as well - first time for me but did a few Ultras (45-50 miles) a couple of years ago and having heard so many great things about Comrades it seemed like a good idea to give it a shot.

Haven't worked out the plan for either side of the race so nothing booked in the way of travel / accommodation - any suggestions welcome.

Just need to sort out my entry into the Thames Meander as a means of getting an early qualifying time and then work out how to combine a training plan for Comrades with one for a PB at London image

  • Lorenzo - I'm planning on using Thames Meander as my qualifier too, but having torn a calf muscle at the weekend it probably won't be as fast as I'd hoped. Would be nice to get it in the bag before Christmas though.
