What if the rules were given an overhaul, so that instead of a weighty tomb (I'm assuming....), tri rules were covered on a single page, in plain English. To get it all in, writing would need to be succinct, plus every rule would have to count, so you could get all the 'sensible' one's in.
That would mean there would be no room for stupidity, like not being able to unzip your top

Rule 1. Read the current rules before deciding that they need to be re-written.
Seems only you have an issue with having your top open......
Wax your chest do you ?
Do you have a link where I can read them online?
He he Nah, just silly rules mate. I've said my bit, and as per the unwritten rule of forums, I'm trying to not go on. This is a thread I started so I could gain different perspectives and perhaps learn something.

Remeber Google is your friend
You could always read the rules if you want to learn something
You're out of date, FlatFoo.
Learn that if you turn up and go to a race briefing, most competent race directors will tell you what you can and can't do.
Not the first time thats been said....and anyway wheres the 2014 version then?
FF- so I have to learn THREE sets of rules I think I'll take up knitting
Thank Feck for that
Ah man, that's hurtfull
But the rules are simple
same as the 2013 rules - no changes for this year. there will be a new rulebook for 2015 as there are amendments and new rules coming. I know what one new rule is about, but don't know the details - so don't ask for anything further.
and FD - if you want a real rulebook to read - download the ITU competition rules. all 177 pages of it (not all rules but lots of other stuff as well).
If there weren't so many, then we wouldn't think FB was so clever.
*cough*
FYI, I'm about half way through reading the 2012 rule book, so soon I'll all be gemmed up
ssshhhh - I've been keeping it a secret till now!
Must confess I've only ever followed rules as explained in event paperwork or by race director. Naive maybe, but if I was required to familiarise myself with (from above) 177 page document that is regularly revised, I might have found another hobby.
As with many walks of life, common sense doesn't always prevail but in my four years of racing (generally completing not competing) and active involvement in this website, I've not yet been caught out for failing to know what I should and shouldn't be doing on race day.
That said, I agree that being prohibited from unzipping tri suit a few inches to allow some airflow on bike or run is pretty damn daft but rules is rules innit!
How about a 10 minute youtube video on the nuts and bolts of the rules instead?
PRW - the 177 page document is for the ITU rules
the BTF rulebook is mercifully shorter - only 41 pages
reading it while being vajazzled? (or whatever the male equivalent is!)
Yo yo, you dissin me Skotty.
It's 'pejazzle'.
Yes....really.....it's a real word, and some men do do it!
(not me I must stress - I prefer to accessorise in more conventional ways, like wearing a belt or a cap, not sticking jewels and gems on my bell end).
What about wearing of compression guards in a non wetsuit or pool swim? Or was that already in 2013 rules?
Thanks for info.
I would have asked Karen but she's not around much at the moment. She would know.
FB - my rule book has 45 pages! Are you not enforcing the anti-doping stuff on pages 42 - 45???
GB - yep - Rule 9.1!
(see I also have BTF cap now!!)
Raf - counting from the downloaded versions and taking 2 superfluous pages off at the end but doping stuff left in.
good news on the cap - I assume you have the gilet already? did you get my e-mail re: Thorpe?? if so, don't reply - all sorted with someone else
