How much resistance when you peddle?

Sorry if this is a daft question. I did my first sprint triathlon the other week in Kent, the oceanlake tri,, below average result 61/88 entrants but I enjoyed it. 17 min swim, 43 min bike and 22 min run. Mucked up T1, put my bloody trainers on without taking my wetsuit off so it was still round my ankles. Daft bugger!!

Doing the Maldon Olympic at the end of July, I was hoping for some advice, how fast should I be spinning my legs on the bike, how much resistance should I feel, I can't quite get the hang of gearing.

Any other good tips would be gratefully received that will help me out.

    I love this image  We've all done some daft things in transition, I've headed out on the run with my bike helmet on before.  Think there's a thread somewhere of silly things we've done in tri.

    Failing that you could always try leaving your wetsuit on for the bike and run especially if its raining, your transition times will be impressive. image

  • I'd say get out on your bike as often as poss and you find your own way, everyone is different and all bikes are different, you can benefit from advice but time on the bike will always put you in good stead image

  • I agree with JP different people etc but if it helps I generally cycle one gear below my best on the day uphill, flat no matter easier with PE like this for me. I am a newbie so just what I've found works for me.
