I live pretty much out in the sticks where street lights are a rare thing so evening runs are now a dark event.
Just wondering if anyone else finds running in the dark even on a regular route easier when you can't see further than a head torch can show you.

Quite the reverse. In daylight I focus on the horizon - or equivalent - and set myself the target to getting to a certain point in a set time. In darkness the distance seems stretched out precisely because I can only see as far as my head toch allows. I also go slower because I am less certain of my footing and also - if I am on a trail rather than road - I am worried I might miss my turning, even on a familiar route.
+1 what Bear said.
I find it much easier running in the dark - fewer people around to dodge, fewer distractions, cooler weather, better focus. I would need enough ambient light though to be able to see where I'm landing my feet.
Agree with Gideon. Faster when I can see where I'm going! Otherwise the uneven paving slab funds you!
My favourite run ever was lit by a full moon across a snow covered moor top; even though I had a torch with me, there was enough ambient light to see by and its a memory I cherish. Serene, it was - almost spiritual.
