  • Sub-4 marathon should be a piece o' cake then!
  • Yeah Right!!

    In my dreams!

Bit of work to do before April 13th I think
  • Ok, race day tomorrow, this is who I believe is running this one, any additions to the list?

    SlowMike
    SlowButSure
    Fozzie
    Long Legs
    Parky
    Little Feat
    Nattynoodle

    See you all there!
  • Wish you all luck, I'm going for Billericay Striders 10k as my next race
  • Good luck for that one BBB
  • Wow, cant believe that I am the first to post here, I guess some of you are still down the pub then :)

The race went to plan apart from the first mile being downhill and I got carried away too much, but was disciplined enough to slow down slightly over the next few miles in order to get back to target pace. Again ran the second half faster than the first, which is good. Managed to finish in 1:04:32 which I am well happy with.

Congrats to all other forumites too, nice to meet you Parky and Little Feat, and to see you again SlowMike (superb PB), as always Long Legs and Fozzie, and of course SlowButSure (my training partner)
  • What a great run!

Managed to get 4m:45s off my PB with a time of 1:24:06 with many thanks to Fozzie for help with pacing the first 7 miles!

Took advice from Natty and took it easy for the first 5 miles resulting in a negative split (by 1 minute) for final 5 miles. Usually I blast off and run out of steam about 25% from the end :)
  • It was great to meet Little Feat & Parky and sorry we did not make it to the pub, but as I had to pull out because of calf trouble, I was not really in a socialising mood. I am still really p****d off about the run as I know I could have got a PB on this course. I really cannot think what I could have done to have such trouble with my calf as I ran a superb run on Wed of 8.5 miles with no problems. I also rested on Friday & Saturday, perhaps that was the problem!!
Anyway, enough of my whingeing, congrats to all of you who got a PB.
Sorry again for not meeting LF in the pub, perhaps next time.
  • Nice to meet you Long Legs and Nattynoodle. Well done to all the other forumites on this one.

Long Legs this may not be of any help but I would chalk this one upto one of those things, and I'm sure it was just a one off, and it seems as though your preparation was fine. Try not to worry about this too much as we all experience those days where something goes horribly wrong for seemingly no reason, just as we have days where everything has been going horribly wrong and it all comes together on the day.

I thought good race, well organized, excellent t shirt, and nice route. Although the incline between mile 2 and 3 (7 and 8) was a bit unpleasent. Well done to the Tiptree Road Runners!

I went out too quick and did the first mile in 5:27 and spent the rest of the race slowing down to finish in 61:18, which I'm reasonably pleased with timewise, but disappointed I faded so badly over the course. The lesson :- don't go out too quick and don't do sprint warmups with your border collie and labrador!! See you all at the next one. Anyone doing Mersea Island?
  • Parky, yes that first mile was way too fast!

Long Legs, this does seem to recur now and then, up till now only in training though, have you posted on the injuries forum about this before?
  • Nattynoodle,

I just knew then it was going to be a struggle and boy was it! Hope to bump into you at another one soon
  • Parky, yes hope so, with any luck more time to chat next time also. I guess you are mainly in Mid/South Essex area for running? Whereas we are usually in Suffolk.

I cant remember if you are in a club or not, but we are running all the Intersport XC Essex League races that start next week, will you be in these?
  • I've just started going to Springfield Striders, and have started contemplating X-country so maybe!
Next week I may be doing the Mersea Island, or I may be supporting Deborah (the girl with dogs at the race at the end of the race) as she competes with our horse in dressage next week.
  • Well good luck to yourself and Deborah whatever you decide to do next week, and we will possibly see you at one of the XC runs soon then
  • LL,

It's hard to pull out before completing a race - as I found out last week at Martlesham. BUT - it is the smart thing to do.

You know when your body needs to stop and it would be unwise not to listen to it. I know it won't make you feel any better but there are plenty of races out there and being smart by pulling out ensures that your pain will not last any longer than it should do.

There are an unlimited number of races but we only have one body - so we have to make it last!
  • Excellent run SBS well done on your new PB :)

    NN
  • Hi Guys,

Justs logged on to read the write ups. Good to met up again with some of you.

Sorry how things went LL. I know its easy to say that 'some days things just don't go right', but it is the case. I'm still in the great position of doing few enough runs that I keep breaking PBs as I get fitter. I know it won't always be like that so I'm anjoying it while I can. Also, my leg gremlins (ie hamstrings, calves and sore toes) have only struck during training runs. I guess I'm due a race breakdown at some stage, hopefully it won't be too serious when it does happen. I'm shore that Stowmarket will be better for you.

Well done to all of you with the PBs. Very satisfying race. If the organisers read this, then thanks for putting it on - one of the most professional local races I've been in.

Glad it wasn't just me that did a rediculously fast first mile. Don't know why I bothered spending so long before the race telling myself to start easy and do even splits! Also, That hill towards the top of the course was a killer, it nearly got methe second lap - don't know if it would hae been easier if I hadn't started so fast. Maybe its best on those sorts of course to just make hay while the sun shines - go fast when you can and grind it out when you can't!

Thanks for the words of encouragememt guys. Hope to see you in a couple of weeks. I definately predict a 7m PB!!!!

    Regards,

    Mike.
  • Hi SlowMike, your forum name is sooo out of date now :)

Your times just keep improving well done, it wont be long before you are looking at that sub 40 mins km, trust me!
  • Hello fellow Tiptree 10 runners
I just wanted to echo some of the sentiments previously mentioned and thank Tiptree Road Runners for an excellently organised event.I'm not a regular runner anymore but I think I'm getting a second wind , having done it when I was a lad.I'm thinking about doing the Billericay event on November 3 , what can I expect ? after doing that hill twice yesterday I'd prfer a flatter course.Essex boys don't like hills!
  • Hi all Tiptree runners,

Good to meet up with all the forumites, the run seems to have been generally well received. Still on a bit of a high having taken almost 5 mins off my PB despite going too fast at the start like everyone else.

Parky - I think you were the guy at Striders training last Thurs saying you'd just done 2:56 for the Berlin marathon? Recognised you sprinting with the dogs before the start!

Have now exchanged balmy Essex for the bleak North Sea (100 NE of Shetland) - transiting through the sleet and snow of Aberdeen @ 5.30am this morning!! Treadmill and no beer for the next week. Ho-hum.
