Last year the back of pen 1 was full of people trying to get straight clear water, from my position on the bank the fast swimmers from the front of four and five had the best race to the buoy, they stayed wife and didn't cut in till the last few metres.
makes you think about the best position. At the half i was stuck behind a few slow swimmers and put 3 or 4 minutes on my time because they started to the left instead of right. Maybe front of bay 2 is better than back of bay 1 as FF suggested

Getting excited and nervous now. Just pray that it's not windy and not throwing it down all day long!
Should be okay, it's in July...oh yeah, see what you mean.
Yes, no wind please and torrential rain doesn't with help 140 miles of potential chafing.
It's super windy now, and wind doesn't usually hang around for weeks on end, so, using Coop logic, it won't be windy on race day
I'm holding you to that prediction Slokey..
Me too.
I think im going for back of pack 1 as Nursey suggested.
What time did you do Nurse?
1:24 and a wee bit
I might join you Bristolsparks - I'm looking at 1 - 1:10ish, I think..
yeah same here Coop, did a pcing session last week and a managed 1:12 so hopefully be a bit quicker on the day
Think I might join you lot in the back of pen 1 then. 70 mins for the swim would be good as far as I'm concerned
1:10 is a bit too rich for me... I'll be happy with a quarter of an hour slower than that.
so need to think through where to start still... maybe back of pack 2
That'll do!
Nursing a sore hamstring at moment. Been mega busy at work and have had no time to enjoy the taper or train. Oh well.

Decided that I'll be starting at back of pack 2. I'm roughly 80 minutes, maybe a little bit quicker, but this will do for me. Decision made.
I'll join you MC, started here last year and was okay.
I realise we probably couldn't all actually fit in the pens but I was surprised how far in front of the pens swimmers were allowed to start last year.

I'm sure it'll be fine though
I wish I could remember where I started last year. At least then I'd know one place to avoid!
Think I'll go middle of bay two this year for a smoother swim !
I did swim up the buoys near middle of lake to keep in deep water away from weed and water wasn't mucky there
See you all at the weekend - still enjoying my forced taper so started carbo loading through boredom - I should float well next Sunday as so bloated
long term weather looking very pleasant!
cant remember where I was in the two previous attempts but got beaten up a bit
Was wondering about wide right and keeping out of harms way
I think I started in bay 3 the last 2 years and had a nice clear swim both times, but then I was fairly slow....
