That's a shame, what with it being it's final season. We went and saw it at RIAT a few weeks ago. Thousands of people there but it was the only display that got everyone up on their feet and moving to get the best view. Absolutely amazing! I hate the word awesome as it gets so overused (my porridge this morning was great, but not awesome) but seeing the Vulcan display is definitely worthy of an awesome!
Saw this on some social media somewhere ... very good footage!
I went down to Dawlish last summer to see the Lancasters in action, spent most of the day in traffic, saw not a lot and got back to my folks to be told they had gone over the bottom of the garden on the way back !
Crying shame that this is her last season in the air
Muttley Jnr and I saw the old lady at RIAT a few years back. After her display she taxi'd in with some other plane that nobody paid any attention to, might have been a B-52.
Same chap posted this video to YouTube of her at RIAT this year. Get that howl at 1 minute in ...
Cracking video Muttley! No better way to pollute the atmosphere!
We went to Fairford RIAT this year, fantastic event that was really well organised. Usually go to Dunsfold but they can't cope with the numbers and last year was very disappointing.
Up until this year I had never been to any air display, but luckily at the last minute ended up at Bournemouth on the Saturday. Very impressed by the Chinook, Vulcan and Typhoon, you're quite right about the amount of noise and glad to have ticked something off my bucket list.
Quite right SteadyCJ, the noise and speed is exciting! My friends wife wasn't sure the first time we went but we've now been going 3 years on the trot, airshows are a great day out!
SteadyCJ - if you want an air show go to the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) at RAF Fairford in July. A great day out, if rather noisy. And environmentally unfriendly.
Farewell X-ray Hotel 558. We won't see your like again. Or hear it!
Why is it a hulk of metal can reduce you to tears??
Saw it at Eastbourne and it was fabulous!!
Will be going to Finningley for a good close up look!
Went to an airshow in Houston last weekend and saw the F18 Superhornet, it literally flew over our head about 200ft above - Lord I nearly passed out from shock - loved it. Forget the name of the USAF display aircraft but have seen them before and thought 'our' Red Arrows were better but I have to say they were "awesome"
One of my most memorable aircraft moments was with a Concorde. When I worked at Heathrow, one of my shift start times meant I'd be in the staff carpark around the time of a Concorde take off. I'd just got out of the car and was near the fence adjacent to the far end of the runway when I heard it coming. It was a slightly foggy day so I only saw it as it passed, still quite low, afterburners on and roaring off into the cloud. I'll never forget that. Now we've lost the Vulcan we need a Concorde back in the air, the skies are pretty boring...
I used to work in Esher in Surrey and Concorde would fly over every day, I couldn't see it but I could hear it - it was always a few minutes before or after 11 and I would think "oh, it's 11 - time for a coffee"!! It was pretty much always on time.
Another memory is having my young nephew down from the North for a weekend and we took him to see the planes at Heathrow, we went to the viewing platform and saw various jets etc which he was really excited to see. Driving back out we went round one of the perimeter roads and lo and behold, they put some barriers down and a Concorde taxied right across in front of us! Not only was my nephew sat there open mouthed - so were we
It was always an ambition of mine to fly to NY on Concorde. By the time I got to be able to afford to do it, it was no longer flying I blame the French!!
No need to bid Muttley, you can buy a visit for engine runs and next year there should be fast taxying days. There's another at Bruntingthorpe iirc which will also give you a howl or two! It was on the Guy Martin documentary earlier this year.

Thanks for sharing that Peter. We had been due to go but couldn't.

I know, it was even local to us in Herne Bay on the Saturday but our little fella ended up having his appendix out rather urgently!
Lol at *awesome*
Think we might have one last chance to see it in Cambridge.

M...eldy - the Vulcan has just announced Dawlish for this Saturday...
It'll be very busy...
Its a tight old squeeze getting in to Dawlish in the first place .. and I am a few hundred miles away now
Was treated to a fairly spectacular fly past by a Nimrod at Mount Kent a *cough* few years ago ... !

And the "bonus howl" from 2:35 ... and the whistle! *shiver*
An astounding aircraft. Without question the most beautiful thing ever to take to the air. We'll miss the old dear.
In case anyone fancies going to a display: http://www.vulcantothesky.org/appearances.html
Hi all - if you liked the above you'll love this latest clip. Filmed from the cockpit and bomb aimer's blister over some stunning Yorkshire scenery.

You can't see much out of the cockpit, eh?

Quite right too!
Ten minutes of Vulcan porn, courtesy of the BBC.
Boing!
A wee pressie from Muttley Jnr ... a plaque commemorating X-ray Hotel 558, one of a series made from parts of the old lady herself.
He is definitely in my good books.
Lots of good stuff on the Vulcan website too, well worth a look. Plus they auction off old parts too...
If they could auction off a howl, I'd bid for it!
