Very unusual, my first Tri was there, and was well marshalled with boats accompanying the swimmers, and water was fairly clear - a bit odd, but very sad......
I'm stunned. Stunned that an event managed to lose an athlete over a 750m swim (that's not a criticism of their event management, it's an expression of pure surprise). I'm equally stunned it took so long after the event to find the poor man's body. When I first read the story on Saturday night, I honestly thought they were going to find him alive and well and there was a different reason for him not starting or not completing the race or something.
Very sad news indeed. Thoughts are with the family.
Wonder if wearing a surf-style shortie wetsuit give him less buoyancy than the usual full length suit? Would he have been more noticeable for want of a better phrase if the full length version was used?
I wonder if he got an elbow or a kick from a competitor and was knocked unconscious? From what I hear swimming in a suit means staying afloat is not a big concern. Horrendous news though and I feel deep sympathy for the bereaved family and partner. It is obviously an incredibly nlucky occurrence and hopefully it will not happen again.

Has the cause of death been published?
