Funny you say that, MMmm. Last night in our Military Fitness session the PTI was really beasting us and kept making us do press ups for not getting in rank or file quick enough. After about the fourth time this happened one guy turned round and started saying how little he was enjoying the class and they ended up having a right slanging match.
I kept my mouth shut and got on with it. Probably preferable at the end of the day, and anyway a few extra press ups are probably a good thing.
Rich - the banter is great...but always take the punishment with a smile....Otherwise life becomes very miserable very quickly. The way they get to a smart arse is to make everyone do the punishment....except the guy causing the trouble. Its amzing how quickly that person shuts the f@#k up when 20 people who were his mates want to kick the hell out of him.
I got very good at press-ups when I was in the RAF...shame I can't do any now!
Oooh, Norway... May... hmm... 24 hours of daylight, so plenty of sleep depravation. Lovely. Forget about the cross country skiing, just start sleeping with the light on...
Rich, Good luck mate, its bloomin tremendous you've got on that prog. From the prev series the triathletes always seem to hold there own.....but I don't think one has won yet. So we're right behind you!
It'll be on BBC2, IW, probably screen in the Autumn.
Thanks for all the kind thoughts everyone, but as I said don't get too premature about it! My first goal is to get to May feeling good and strong with no injuries from all the training I intend to do. (Still planning to do Lanzarote IM end of May so not going to abandon cycling etc just yet).
Daz, watch the SAS Desert series that starts the weekend after next. My mate Emmie from Serpie tri is on it and does really well, and she was 3 minutes behind me at Sherborne so you beat her as well!
First step on the long road this morning. Did an hour on the xc ski simulator thingy at the gym. Worked up a good old sweat, and didn't find any particular new muscles screaming. Felt a bit like cycling, hard work but low impact.
Do you know where in Norway you will be, can I come and wave ? ( I live there)
But seriously I asked some of the guys at training tonight and they said roller skis are the best way to train by far. Failing that swimming training is also very good for arm strength. However back and stomach strength are more important as it is these muscles you should be using most, although if your technique is not good then you become more reliant on your arms.

Take a look at the book the real Heroes of Telemark by Ray Mears to find out a bit more about the conditions
(Just don't try the rabbit-skin jockstraps)

....just to say I'd kissed a TV star that is of course
No impact, so you should be able to get lots of it done. I usually do about 20 mins on it at the gym as part of other things.
Nordic Track are the best known but are mainly sold for home use - maybe worth checking one out on ebay, buy it and sell when finished.
but nothing compares to the real stuff - snow
