on one occasion I picked up a young lady ( DeeCee) from the side of a road in darkness, having only spoken on here and drove her 30 miles to meet a group of people neither of us had ever met

I remember that poster, wonder whatever happened to her.
Anyway yes I would if I knew them well through this forum but probably not otherwise, if we didn't have 3 teenagers i'd be more likely to.
Yes, I have done. I think you take lots of precautions, including perhaps that other people know them already or something and lots of other forumites know it's going on. I wouldn't just let some random person who I didn't know and who someone else couldn't vouch for stay. I've met some of my best friends through this forum. The pirates are oft criticised and there are always a few bad apples, but I'd say the general rule is that you will never meet a more generous bunch of community spirited folk. I've known them loan equipment worth £100s to people they hardly know, share tents, hotel rooms, dress and undress fellow athletes who are cold and unable to move their hands, run with them, give them food...
Not offered a room but several years back I entered URWFRC team (yes this is that clubhouse) in the Luton Marathon relay. Got the team together on here. So man, Stumpy and Gecko (blimey I remembered the names). The other two were ladies and although they travelled in on the day, Gecko did say that when her work colleagues had asked her what she was doing that weekend, she had said I am running in a team on Sunday with two people I have never met; one called Stumpy and one the Beast. She did say she got some strange looks
I think I attended the very first URWFRC social, the night before the Glasgow Half Marathon in 2002. Very strange walking into a restaurant to meet 8 people when you have no idea what they look like. Thankfully there was only one large group and most of them (yours truly excepted) looked very fit and slim. Great night.
I have had a forumite to stay before a race - although I can't remember if I'd met her in real life beforehand. We may have raced together once, and then she stayed the next time - not sure.
I have quite a few FB friends who started out as forum friends, who I'd happily put up for the night. But then, I've been on the forum for (eek) 14 years. Any axe murderers would have shown their colours by now.......I think..

Yep...

I once shared a hotel room with a fellow forumite (at a social) who i had never met before
Well, I live in a studio flat, so if they didn't mind sleeping on the floor next to my kettlebells, then I wouldn't have a problem.
God no, I'd have to tidy up first!
I have - on more than one occasion - and made some very good friends.

She's still around, see her from time to time.... Last saw her at Helsby this year
I spent the night in a forumite's awning. Got a few cups of tea out of it too. Lucky for her I had forgotten to pack my axe that weekend.
I have shared my tiny tent with a stranger off here and shared my bigger one with a few different people.......and recently my awning
would only offer a room in my house if I knew them or if my kids have all left home..
wouldnt offer a room in my house to a stranger if I had kids there

I think people I've only known through RW have stayed at my house even when I wasn't here! But then it's not known as Hotel Wombledon for nothing ????

I hate to break it to you, Nessie, but there's a fair chance that if you haven't spotted the axe murderer yet.. it could be you
No.
if you've met them in 3d and not been freaked out sure knock yourself out.
But just off an internet forum? no.
thats not to say everyone here is a psychotic nutjob - possibly some of them might be OK.
Or are they?
You'd be surprised what happens when you meet people off the internet
If they were a regular poster on the forum then yes.
I will be marshalling at the World half marathon championship in March 26th I may have a room available.
Eh ?
