On your bike

I was thinking about doing this with a few people I sometimes ride with - if I can persuade them - anyone fancy it?

  • Oooh - looks fun, but I'll be in Lanzarote that week ! Sorry !
  • never done an audax - wot they like?
  • Ooh it's tempting, I've just rejoined Audax UK too. Just a bit far for me to travel, is all....
  • looks great... think i'm doing a 25mile fell run that weekend tho'
  • ah no hang on... its the day after... should be fine then :P
  • I would be well up for it but unfortunatly im at a wedding that day. Would have been a perfect training ride for my Ironman to...
  • I might be up for it - have to see if I can get the day off work.
  • I am interested, but have coast to coast on the 13th of June, maybe too much cycling and too much time away from home though.
  • I'm doing a ride in Derbyshire with some people off the cycling+ forum on the 29th Feb - hopefully talk them into it - if I can I'll sign up for it and repost this then.

WildWill - audaxes are fun if you do them with others - you get a route and have to go from one check point to another where you get your card stamped to prove you made it. The check points are generally cafes, pubs etc and there will be other participants already there or arriving whilst you are there - I think some people probably whizz off straight away but my plan is to stop and have tea and cakes at each stop. I've only done one which was a 200k and the stops were 30something miles apart so still a decent ride in between breaks.
  • I'll have 2 give it some thought then - i like tea and cakes :o)
  • Did someone mantion cake......
  • Hmm Now you're talking, how civilised.
  • yeah i might do it
  • Hello Andy- not seen you for a bit, I am getting very excited about Austria, glad I decided to enter.
  • Very tempted although quite far from me. Excuse the ignorance here but I presume this is a mountain bike job??
  • I was assuming road bikes- which of us is correct Popsider?
  • ooh i was assuming road bikes, too

had to go to munich for a few days mo, hence the absence... rented a car and attempted to go and check out karnten, but we decided to go 'the pretty route' and we got lost in the alps on little windy ice roads
  • road bikes
  • Popsider- as I thought- are there lots of rules relating to mudguards and such like?
  • I think audax have scrapped the mudguard rule haven't they ??
  • I'm not sure - I think it may be at the discretion of the organiser - I've only ever done one and we didn't need mudguards for that. I'm assuming you don't need them as it's in Summer but probably worth checking - I haven't got them anyway though I am looking for a bike with guards and rack for a bit of a continental tour this Summer.
  • are these roads suitable for temperamental race bikes???
  • Might be better on the training bike.
  • apparently i've broken it by having had it bolted to my turbo trainer for the last 3 weeks, but that sounds like the best idea
  • shud use a better TT
  • Hello Will- Or should I say Johnny Cash
  • johnny cash? has he been begging small change for the condom machine again?
  • i'll get my coat
  • how about using mountain bikes with big fat mountain bike tyres?

that way you could get an 8 hour workout out of 100 miles... much better than doing it on a racebike and finishing in 5
