Well done Keeley.  Unwritten rule is that no matter how much you walk, you have got to run over the finish line (if able to of course)

Well done Keeley! Glad you managed to run over the finish line image Very sensible changing your strategy - and I'm impressed you did it at all in this heat! image

WOOOHOOO, WELL DONE KEELEY!!! Sounds like a great performance, and very wisely run. Changing strategy in this heat is just the right thing to do. Bravo!!!!

Larry, sorry the throat is a bit sore---as you said, maybe an occupational hazard of the new job? And after all the fitness you've been doing, maybe a day off today is a good plan anyhow. It's just wonderful to hear you able to get out and run and cycle and everything, after all the problems you had a few years ago image)))))

Sue, yóu're up early----going to tell us what you're up to these days?? Especially now that the house is all decorated?

Yums, you're right of course. It's hard to be alone, especially when everyone else seems to be hitched. It's hard to go on believing in yourself. But Nogs is SO right: it's a lot better to be on your own than with the wrong person (as you may recall!!!). And while 'pulse' might not be a big ask, 'job, sanity and decency' is not so easy to find as it sounds, especially if you'd also like a bit of personality and maybe some niceness thrown in! But since you have all those things yourself (and more) compromise on any of those isn't really an option. And the right person will wander into your life when you least expect it, and from a direction you never thought of. For sure.

Spence, those are THE most gawjuss puppies! When do you get to meet DD officially??

Westie, I actually envy you that cool rain! But as you said, it's a shame for the festival goers. Hope they're able to find someplace to stay relatively dry and comfy.

Sluggie, sorry about the back/hip/elbow, but as Daffs said, 20 miles is bloomin' good going!! If someone had told you a year ago you'd dash off 20 miles on a Saturday morning, you wouldn't have believed them so well done you image)))))))

Podds, as for you, 30 miles of hills in this heat?? You're going to be giving the Iron Lady some serious competition here! Mucho respect!

Daffs, your PhD halo is positively glaring image)))  but actually, it IS well done to keep going with it when you have so many other new things that you're doing. Will be wonderful when you're Dr Daffs image)))))

Flibs, will be pommming like mad for your R4L tomorrow, even if the internet here doesn't let me in before you set out. It will go well, for sure!

FP, good to know your orange pompoms are ready! We are all gearing up for tomorrow as you can imagine, and all honorary Dutch people are welcome! (Jay: are you there??)

Nogs, hope you get your long ride in tomorrow, though hills and heat make it sound quite testing. And hope the Tour continues to be absorbing: down here i'm afraid it's not getting a look-in this year, all eyes are on the World Cup!

XB, thanks for the hint about changing the run/walk ratio in heat. I'll try that. It's hard here, cos it stays light and warm so long we go to bed late, and by the time I get up it's getting hot already so I need to get a grip! Hope your BBQ is long, leisurely and delicious image))

Life here is divided into 2 parts.

The French part: lots of socialising, despite its being VERY hot. 2 nights ago we had Dutch friends + visiting family over, but it was so hot (35+ in the shade) that we had dinner in the house instead of outside! Used the grill in the cooker instead of BBQ but it worked OK. Then last night went to German neighbours for dinner: they both adore cooking, and are both fantastic cooks, but they either don't know or forgot I'm a veg, and it would have been rude not to eat what they had made, and Mr C (who usually rescues me by covertly eating my meat) so I choked down 8 shrimps in the salad and some lamb. I don't know when I last had meat, but it was years ago, and I felt rather sick all night image(( But it was a great evening other than that.

The Dutch part: HUP HOLLAND HUP!!! It's ironic that after nearly 15 years of loyal footballing, we're out of the country at this moment. Because the whole country is orange: food, clothing, drink, everything! And with all the worries about the economy etc, this has been a huge lift for the country that has drawn everyone together in one big happy family. (There's a Dutch word for it: 'verbroedering', making everyone brothers.) Whether we win or lose tomorrow, for a country of 16 million to get to the finals is brilliant, and EVERYONE is behind the team. When the arrive home on Monday they will be met at the Dutch airspace border by a bright orange F16 from the Dutch Air Force, and given an escort into Schiphol where there will be thousands of fans waiting. And the party will go on for days! Mr C, C3 and I will watch it here, dressed in bright orange, and in sms connection with C1 (who will be in the Dutch pub in London) and C2 (who will be with his gf's parents in England). If anyone has spare pompoms tomorrow (preferably orange, but red, white and blue would be fine too) please shake them for all you're worth! image))))

Vibes for Holland from Oxfordshire.  I have nothing against Spain or Spaniards (I'm over that whole armada unpleasantness)  I do feel a certain kinsmanship for my fellow northern Europeans.

I'm whittling a new pair of clogs for tomorrow as I write.

Spence, the mouse is right, it was just one of those runs ..... if you are properly fuelled during the day then an early morning run should not be an issue ... onwrards and upwards!!

    Evening all

Keeley well done with the R4L

Bit of a hectic start to the day, Twin 2 gagging, OH gagging and Twin 1 falling and banging his head on the bed frame, blood everywhere, though once cleaned it was just a tiny nick on his forehead.

Took twin 1 out to the shops and left ill OH and ill Twin 2 together to relax at home, then popped in on family. A quick pit stop home then took twin 1 on the bus to new brighton, had a go on some of the rides and won a teddy then got the bus home.

OH and Twin 2 feeling better now, so hopefully a decent nights kip for them and they'll be back on par tomorrow.

3 mile 'return' run planned for tomorrow morning. Also I'm going to get in touch with banardos about me running for them in the GNR

    Hi all,

Back from lovely hols and feeling nicely chilled image  Even the rain pelting down since we landed hasn't bothered us as we had such gorgeous weather away.  We're now just ignoring the mountains of unpacking  / washing and eating chip shop chips for tea washed down with cans of bud - classy eh! ( but very nice all the same)!image

Yums, sounds like a lovely day today - enjoy the vino and nibblesimage

Chuggs - we have our orange pom poms ready to rock tomorrow.  I'm not generally a footie fan, but I've really enjoyed watching the latter matches as they've been so skillful, so am actually really looking forward to the match.  I hope both teams really go for it and there are a few good goals.

    Goood luck Flibbs and Meldyimageimage

where she lived before you had to get off the buss at the Cock pub, I used to love getting on the bus and just saying, Cock please!!! imageimageimageimage still makes me titter !!

Can I run (hahahaha) something passed you........

I came up with an idea whilst running this morning, want to know what you think.......

I always seem to end up driving at work nights out, along with the end of year, Christmas do there are 4 of us that regularly go for a curry, at first I offered because of the running & not wanting to drink, but now it's just expected & it's really winding me up..........on Friday colleague (one of the four) said " we'll have to decide how we are getting there on Friday (end of yr do) I knew she was waiting for me to offer, I didn't.....

but I thought I might put a notice up in the staff room offering to be a taxi (can get 7 in car) in return for a £5 donation to Cancer research.......

what do you think, bit cheeky?
