  • Sluggie, so glad the move has gone well. We all know the lingering 'there's no place to put this' syndrome, but within a week or two it will feel like home, especially once the cats are back with you. Well done!!

    Kieran, congratulations! Finishing London must be thrilling, and you should be well chuffed with yourself.

    Meldy, I can't help feeling a sneaking sympathy for any poor young lad who thinks he knows more than you! Be kind to your poor drill-sergeant, won't you? ;-) And I will add more squats to the other exercises..... thank you.

    (((DL and OH))) that sounds like one vicious virus, DL, and you were deffo right to go to A&E. Hope everyone is feeling much better by now.

    ((((Mr Pippi))) Sounds like the op wasn't too serious, but all the balancing of meds took some concentration. Glad he's on the mend. And since you DID heartlessly go away to take pictures, hope you're going to post some of them? I love your photographs!

    We had a lovely Kings Day even though it was pretty cold and a bit rainy. Always great atmosphere. And in the afternoon I went to sing in a surprise party for a friend, who has done a huge amount for Leiden as a historian. The mayor came to make a speech of thanks, and ended by announcing that our friend had been made a Ritter in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau. Kind of like an OBE. He had absolutely no idea, and he was utterly blown away. Really great occasion.

    But tomorrow we're off to France as early as we can get out, so I need to pack up the laptop. See you all from the other side. Happy weekend, all! xxx

    Morning waisterinos :)

    Glad you got in ok Sluggy, hope your new home is everything you wished for and the cats appreciate it too :)

    Well done Keiran! Excellent achievement :)

    ((((poddles)))))

    ~~~~~~~vibes for C3~~~~~~~~
    ((((((hugs for the rest of you too)))))))))))))
    Nothing much to report. Bit of work, bit of decorating, cups of tea and the like, not much running. All good :D
  • glad to hear you moved in at last Sluggy. We are just back from family get together down south good fun meeting up and over 30 people turned up . Ready for a night in our own beds as far too much talking and drinking took place. Oh yes the train was late so got home later than planned.
  • mathschickmathschick ✭✭✭
    morning
    bank holiday and the kids are arguing already!
    slugs - hope you are getting settled
    chugs - the Kings Day special presentation sounds fantastic, well done to your friend
    had a bit of an up and down time lately, but have come to some decisions. I was contacted by a headhunter with a view to a head of dept post at what was a poor school. Have decided that it is not for me and after quite a few things at work lately I need to leave teaching altogether to preserve my sanity. So, going to work on an exit plan, although I doubt whether I will get anything together in order to leave this summer, so maybe another year where I am, and I am going to try to get into accountancy. I haven't got any experience at this, but can do an OU course starting Oct which would help, and start applying for trainee positions. Hopefully my age won't go against me
    going to try to force myself to swim in  a cold lake today, brrrr the weather is rubbish at the moment!
    Hi all,
    Posting from Tesco again as won't have TV, landline or internet for another week or maybe two.
    Really need to get some storage built asap as we cannot put things away until that is done.
    Cats came back yesterday and are behaving true to form. Alf is explorin' and trying to Get Owtside and Sky is hidin'. They have both had food and cuddles and used the littler tray, so they are as OK as they can be.
    One worry I had was that I might find it noisy living in a flat. Today we heard a child's voice (there is a family in the 3 story town-house that froms part of the block) and a door bang. That is, literally, the first hint I have had that we live in close proximity to others. We used to get more noise from the elderly lady who lived next door to us!
    Mc, that is a big step but I don't blame anyone for wanting to get out of teaching! The constant government intereferance  must make everything harder than it needs to be  :( I wish you well.
    Sending ((( ))) to you all,
    WAIST well xxx
  • Dr DaffsDr Daffs ✭✭✭
    Maybe we need to move into your block of flats sluggy - our neighbours have been playing landfill indie (as in with their own instruments and caterwauling voices) in the living room all afternoon, popping outside every 45 mins for a fag and spme guffawing, and there's some kind of beeping alarm been going on outside for 2 days but nobody cn figure out where it's coming from. aarrgghh!
    Sounds like a good plan to escape MC xx Lakes though? eek!
    I've been running with the zombies again and now trying to fit a carpet edging thing. Kind of think the guy fitting the carpet should have done it personally but there we are...
  • Pippi LSPippi LS ✭✭✭
    When you work out the escape route, MC, pass iton! I don't think accountancy is for me though ... I have 2 colleagues retiring this year and I have itchy feet. If someone would headhunt me out of teaching, I'd go, but I don't want to jump. I'm planning on 3 more years until I'm 58.
  • Evening chumps
    hope we have all had a lovely bank holiday!
    i went back to work today, fairly leisurely morning then it all went tits up about lunchtime  :)
    sluggy, as long as you locate the kettle ...the rest can wait
    DL ... A baby shower?? Think I'd prefer offsted
    fingers crossed please for Thursday...have a promotion board/interview, don't worry if you don't see me before hand, I need to do some reading and pretend I know what I'm talking about
  • mathschickmathschick ✭✭✭
    good luck meldy!!
    pippi - I think if I knew it was 3 more years I could stick it, but I turn fifty this year,, retirement age is 67, I can't do 17 more years, I just can't. I have stuck at teaching for 10 years which is more than I have stuck at anything, so not bad I think....
    once I stopped being able to feel my feet I quite enjoyed my lake swim, it was very very cold and I couldn't cope with swimming with my head in, so head up breast stroke it was, but had a great time :)
  • Dr DaffsDr Daffs ✭✭✭
    Gosh, Meldy in charge? A frightening thought!  :D Good luck!
    Not sure I'd want to stick another 17 years at anything MC... good luck with your escape...
  • DLDL ✭✭✭
    Morning
    Happy new house Sluggy. I see Tesco profits are up in your area!
    Hope you got to France OK Chuggy.
    I got out of teaching but not out of education. It is possible! Good luck with the plans MC.
    No news from Podds?
    Quiet weekend mainly due to having to minister to the poorly. Escaped yesterday to go to a baby shower. There were moments I wished I were still at home! What a strange event which just seems like an excuse to get double presents. Also fascinating to watch when people ask about the possible names they all have an opinion and most of them negative. Why ask if you're going to be rude!?
    Back at work - so that long weekend was quite short!
    Happy new week. Hope it brings something fun
  • morning all
    I've put a note on Meldy's desk! I keep trying to pop in, start reading then get distracted. very busy with work blah blah
    well done Keiran and welcome back, that's the trouble with being disappointed - you need to do it again to get an improvement :)
    happy new home Sluggy I hope you will be very happy there :)
    I'm in full taper mode :)
  • SlugstaSlugsta ✭✭✭
    Afternoonicles,
    Guess where I am?  :D
    DL, a baby shower sounds like one of the circles of hell!
    Meldy, good luck with the interview. Are you applying to be PM? I think you would be rather good at it  :D
    Sorry that w*rk is so busy again Jenni (or is it 'still' rather than 'again'?). I'm sorry, I have forgotten which mara you are doing  :/
    Has anyone heard from Pods? Sending ((( ))) in case she looks in.
    We had our very first mail at our new address today (thanks Chuggy), I always think that makes somewhere feel more like home  :)
    We are rapidly getting to the stage where we have put away everything we can. Someone is coming to give an estimate for some storage tomorrow - don't remember whether this is for kitchen, bedroom or both. The kitchen is short of work surface as well as storage, I'm guessing that the 2 lads didn't do much cooking! Mind you, our first house had even less space and I managed to cook a Christmas dinner for 12 peeps, so it is certainly possible. However, at my advanced age, I want things to be comfortable, as well as possible.
    Better go as I have a few things that I need to get on with while I am here.
    (((WIN)))
    WAIST  well xx
  • MC I meant to mention, do you know Seren/Julie Lewis, she is doing just that at Uni at the moment and I am sure she would be happy to impart knowledge
    Daffs is away with the zombies
    chuggs is with the mayor
    DL is on a train
    Sluggy in tescos
    situation normal  :)
  • mathschickmathschick ✭✭✭
    meldy - yes, I know seren, I must message her. I wouldn't be able to afford to go back to uni but if I could get a graduate trainee type thing it would suit me (well, I graduated ages ago)
    Good morning lovely people :-) My apologies for my absence
    Hoorah,  the slugs have a new home :-)  What a relief to be finally to be in.  Poor Sky as it sounds as though she found it rather stressful.  Are her and Alfie coming home today?  How fab SB is going freelance.  With his previous success I'm sure he'll do well.  I hope SM is content in her own way.  Will it be easier to get to her from your new place?
    Westie,  sorry your peeper issue hasn't been resolved.  It's frustrating and worrying as our sight is so vital.  Good see have you back in the lounge :-)
    DL a house of hormones that aren't yours sounds fun :-) The menopause is the big thing at work so tell OH to join HMRC. How's the running going?
    Daffy,  you have been out of the office having some fab adventures.  Shame you have to do some work.
    JFF,  good to hear your mum is content :-) Visiting Harlow makes you an honorary Essex girl.  Hope you escaped ok.
    Chuggy:-) How lovely to see you.  Your running gate sounds interesting and helpful advice from M..... eldy. It sounds as though all the chuglets are doing fabulously and how lovely that C1 has matured too as I seem to recall she was a bit of a free spirit.  How did C3 get on with the interview?
    MC,  a tough half and your 15 mins faster than last year? That's brill and I guess thyroid medication related?
    Well done Kieran G.  Marafun is an unpredictable beast and getting to the start is an achievement in itself
    Pippi,  I did giggle at the thought of you dumping Mr P so you could go out with your photography friends.  Hope Mr P is recovering well.
    Sgt Major M...... eldy does old boot camp.  Oh the images.  I pity the fool in charge :-)
    I'm off work this week doing diy which is always calamitous.  Yesterday I kicked the fence paint over onto my shoe and today a cactus went down the stairs.  Work not resolved.  It would seem that on 15/5 I will have a new boss/ new work/new team or any permutation of the above.  Very much an atmosphere of every man,  woman and child for themselves. Meanwhile I have the menopausal can't be doing with eejits attitude which is probably a good thing at work!  Hmmm has m..... eldy been menopausal ever since I've known her :-)
    Podds,  where are you? X
    Afternoon
    Warms up the vibe machine in preparation for tomorrow's interview extravaganza ... just remember the advice - be yourself - but then again M.eldy.... maybe not?!
    (((((Yums))) hope the house survives the week. Spooky 15 May is when all is revealed at my work too. I already know who my boss is, but there are seismic shifts in other places.
    Hope your measurements are generous Sluggie and that there will be many cubby holes!
    I managed a run this morning - there was much walking and cursing. Maybe I'm just tapering? What foolish thing are you doing Farty?
    I am supposed to be working from home. Half the sentence is currently operational.
    Right, maybe a cup of tea will help me focus!
    Happy Wednesday - hope it's a painless one
  • hello all - its that time of the month again - bleurgh!
    I obviously didn't read back properly because I missed MC's planned career change. funnily enough - I may do the opposite move at some point. well not teaching but teaching assistant may be an option for when I "downsize"
    I am an accountant (of sorts), but a management accountant rather than financial or audit. the level at which you work (and earn) is very varied, I do OK but nothing special and I work my socks off! not trying to put you off but its definitely not an easy option. If you are looking at qualifications take a look at AAT if you don't want to go for professional level. I did CIMA and that took 4 years whilst working. I'm definitely looking to do something different in the next few years when the mortgage is paid.
    yes doing marathon on Sunday at Stratford, trying to do a race each month this year after doing nothing last year
  • mathschickmathschick ✭✭✭
    JFF - thanks :)
    unless there is a change to education funding the position of 'teaching assistant' may cease to exist because schools won't be able to afford them....not that they get paid a lot....and some of the Higher Level Teaching Assistants end up teaching classes, which I guess is cheaper than having teachers teach them :(
    had a headache all day, hoping it is just the weather rather than a lurgy, but not bothering with any exercise, will make a nice meal and put my feet up instead
  • DLDL ✭✭✭
    Morning
    I work in special education - there will always be teaching assistants. Some of our young people are staffed 3:1. Very rewarding but not in a financial sense!
    ~~~~~~~~~M.eldy and the interview panel~~~~~~~~

    Good luck at Stratty Farty - not a marathon a month I hope!?

    Hope the headache has passed MC

    Working from home - let's hope it's more successful than yesterday!

    Happy Thursday - hope the sun shines on you
  • SlugstaSlugsta ✭✭✭
    Morning to all from sunny Tesco  :D

    (((Yumms))) w*rk seems to have been a constant thorn in your flesh ever since I have known you  :(

    Mc, I hope the headache resolved and the lurgy stayed away.

    Hope the interview went well Meldy (I think it has already happened?).

    Sky and Alf came home on Sunday - it will be weeks, rather than days, before things get much better, so it seemed pointless to continue paying cattery fees for them. We thought we had, somehow, lost Sky yesterday but eventually found her under our bed. I think she had got upset by having a stranger (TM) in the place. She is bouncing around as normal today though. MS keeps saying he is sure Alfie could be let out - I disagree! I sort of suspected this might be an issue, he always thinks everything will work out the way he thinks they should, I always believe otherwise!

    Anyhoo, I need to get on with things, roll on Wednesday when - we hope - we will be reconnected to the world!

    (((WIN)))

  • Morning chaps !

    I think you lot should just all do job swaps for a few years, see who notices at work  :)

    Yums, I have been promising DIY at chez Meldy for years ... given that I am approaching the 3 year point I really should sort out my paint brushes!

    You may like to know that I was successful at Interview, secured one of the two posts on offer and I think current start date is 5th June so I have a little handover period to whoever wants my current team ??!!

    You may call me ma'am

    Sluggy, I kept the GPO in for about 3 weeks I think, I certainly wouldn't do anything different again,  they need to be super confident that they are 'home' and not just keen to get outside and explore ... just tell MS that meldy said so

    I am on a 3 night run and after a hectic week I am proper tired so am hoping for a good sleep later

    The FGO is being plagued by flies already so we are coming up with cunning plans to keep them away from the areas that are less manageable that others shall we say!

  • Nearly back to work time again ...

  • mathschickmathschick ✭✭✭
    congratulations meldy!!

    the headache hung around for a couple of days - maybe a little virus but I am fine now!

    please can I fast forward a week and get rid of the year 11s???? They are not exactly focused, only want to talk about prom and  I keep having to send them to remove makeup!!

    slugs, fingers crossed you get your internet etc soon

  • Morning All

    Just dashing through....  Have been doing week in France and week in GB but the weeks in GB are hectic due to work.  They have been fine with me having the time off but somehow I'm still supposed to do everything (because they don't have anyone to cover me!) - a tad on the tiring side!!

    Dad is just about hanging on, he's lasted longer then expected and has said he's had enough and just wants to die (understandably) but frustratingly for him he doesn't get to control it.  He's on a morphine patch now too and the feeling is that he will drift away over the next couple of days

    And just to add to life's little stresses, Frankie collapsed yesterday morning.  Long story short, specialist heart vet has diagnosed a terminal heart tumour (hemangiosarcoma for the medical types) which is aggressive with an incredibly poor prognosis.  We've bought him home and will keep him comfortable but he too is looking at days rather than weeks quite possibly........... never thought we'd lose "precious prince perfect" :(

    So spring 2017 is not proving to be the most positive.........but what will be will be and all that

    Anyhow - will try to keep popping in and eventually even maybe catch up with my lovely WAISTer mates
  • mathschickmathschick ✭✭✭

  • morning all

    oh Podds  very tough times for you I hope it is a peaceful passing for your Dad and lovely Frankie

    I was is a similar situation with my Dad last year as you know. I would recommend that you get signed off from work and let them sort it out - I know that's very difficult to accept but sometimes you have to set your priorities. saying that I stayed at the hospital every night with my Dad and came home and did a couple of hours work each day - it helped to know I hadn't made it difficult for my colleages and that things wouldn't be a complete disaster when I got back

    (((((Podds))))

    Did my marafun yesterday - was really pleased with 4:26, it get very warm in the later stages but was quite breezy so not too uncomfortable. Just a little stiff this  morning. and no DL I'm doing a race each month but not a mararun - so far its 1 10k, 3 halfs and 1 full mara :)

  • SlugstaSlugsta ✭✭✭
    Morning all,

    Today I am posting from my friend's lounge while she gets on with 'stuff' of her own.

    (((((Podds))))) I am so sorry to hear of your 'double whammy'  :( The friend who lost her mum last year also lost 2 cats this year - and the cats have had a far bigger impact on her as she feels their loss every day. I know that you fell the same about Frankie.

    Well done JFF, that is a pretty speedy mara!

    Meldy, congratulations on the promotion! Is it really 3 years since you moved into your place? Doesn't time fly when you are having fun?!

    It is bright and sunny here but not terribly warm. It was lovely to step outside this morning, on my way to aquagym, and hear nothing but birdsong.
