working at it slowly

  • Aww MC - doesn't sound very good  :'(:'(

I'm about to face my annual battle of appraisal.  I get more work and more responsibility without any commensurate pay rise and of course we don't have the teaching unions behind us.  I'm at the top of my pay grade and they won't put me up to the next one so I've been sat there for around 5 years now taking pay cut after pay cut.........

And then they wonder why I tell them that performance targets are a waste of time as meeting them gains me nothing and if I'm failing them and in my job they shouldn't be waiting a year to tell me that!!

Unsurprisingly my protests never get me anywhere..........
  • Afternoon all,

(((Podds))) hope the appraisal went better than feared! It must be terribly frustrating to say the same thing every year with nothing changing :(

We had the wardrobe built in our spare room yesterday and have just spent an hour sorting through boxes - we were not nearly brutal enough before we moved! Before that was our visit to SM, so I am ready to drop at the moment. Mum was awake and seemed to recognise us but didn't make any attempt to speak. The time I will really worry is when she stops eating choklit!

Hope everyone else has got through the week without too much grief.

    WAIST well xxx

  • Sadly not here - my nan died this morning :( A blessing really that she was only proper poorly and agitated for the last couple of weeks, but still it wasn't nice to see her that way :(

(((((Waister pals))))) feel out of it at the minute, not run since January, barely any exercise othet than walking, head mostly in work and house stuff (some minor progress but we're 7 weeks in and still negotiating the mortgage... fortunately other stuff progressing at the same time but even so...)

Heading off for a takeaway. Waist well folks. Xxx
  • (((Waisters))) Fingers crossed, all okay here ..
Parkrun - bit slower, but I ran the lot without the 30 second walk up the hill!

We were going for tea at a local restaurant but they have just rung to cancel - the chef has fainted in the kitchen and knocked himself out!!!
  • Evening all Yes, it seems like evening here, rather than afternoon),

(((Daffs))) I am so sorry your Nan has had to leave you  but glad that she is now at rest. Please look after yourself, you have a lot going on at the moment!

MS and I went out for a birthday lunch buffet today, our friend is 75 and has Parkinson's Disease but is generally doing well. Rock n Roll!! :)

  • Aww daffs,  a mixture of relief and sadness for you x

Goodness Pippi !!   That's an excuse worthy of 'the dog ate my homework'!!

Lots of lunching and dining going on,  Ive just had falafel and humous salad but sadly it was at work and not some nice restaurant with a bottle of wine !

Podds, that is a shame regards appraisals, we have a similar system and whislt we know that there is no money in the coffers we can still to some extent make the appraisal a positive experience when it warrants it.

It is such a shame about the forums, but interestingly and something may be fir us to keep in mind is that Runners World US is getting rid of their forum and moving over to facebook, not entirely sure how that will work but it would not surprise me if this went in a similar way,  not sure if they are contracted to the provider of this forum but I wouldn't start boarding up quite yet.   Forums certainly served us well but even I can see there is far more activity on social media these days.      May be we could take up squatters rights?!

I have late shift today and tomorrow and then I have 4 whole days off!   Going to see Marty Stuart in London on Wednesday... seriously good fun!
I have been frequenting the gym to improve my strength and flexibility (took a leaf out of my own book Chuggy!!) and I am pleased to say I seem to be making progress and my knee is less grumbly than before.  I've not run since Outlaw and am planning on helping out with my running clubs couch to 10k type plan which will allow me to build back up slowly, becoming quite the gym bunny with all these different classes that have been quite fun to do !

The ginger one had his annual weigh in yesterday, it appears he has lost 500 grams this year,  its a decrease and we are taking that thank you!!   He still needs to lose more apparently and is now on half rations for tea time ... I am not looking forwards to going home !!

  • my 'work'  tweeted earlier in the week  '.... don't forget its getting later earlier'  and was met with many criticisms'  but it made perfect sense to me !

500g is quite a lot! I thought he was all fur!

yes, I can see the forum being allowed to wither away, especially when you see the spam on the front page that has remained for months...
  • As a 'spam womble'  I have emailed time and again and they did say we would get a tutorial on how to get rid of the spam but it didn't materialise and I have given up asking to be honest!

    Happy Birthday Podds !!

    Afternoon all,

    Happy Birthday Podds!

I don't ever look at the front page these days, simply come straight here from notifications. In the old days this was my homepage - now I drop in only occasionally :(

  • Evening All

And what a grey day it is for a  birthday!!  Oh well never mind

Daffs - sorry to hear about your Nan although it does sound as if she's at rest and peaceful now

I'm with you all re the forum - come to this page via notifications and don't bother with anything else at all re RW.  And if I don't come in very often it tells me to sign in again despite having the "remain signed in" box ticked which always irritates me!!

And finally for Black Dog day........of the canine not depression type (really don't think they should be called the same thing as black dogs are adorable....)

  • YumsYums ✭✭✭

oh what a fab photo to come in to = black dog bums :-) Gawjuss - Tom, Elvis and Badger :-) Happy birthday, Podds :-)  The boys look very well behaved and happy :-)

((Daffy and Daffy nan))) Very sorry to hear you've lost your Nan. it is sad to see our oldies suffering. I hope the house is sorted out soon as you sound out of sorts and as though you need to have a break

Sluggy, It's good SM is alert and recognises you. Even better she still enjoys her choklit. I too find conversation uses far too much energy so pull faces :-) Does that mean I should be in a home too?  I'm really pleased that Sky cat is enjoying life and have everything crossed that she keeps well and happy :-)

(((MC))) management... pfft. I hope you're feeling more settled

Bless the poor Ginger Pikey One having to endure the indignity of going to the vet and being weighed. it's good he has lost weight but if he is on limited rations I fear for your safety. Good to hear you are enjoying the gym and the classes. I have this image of you in lycra and leg warmers singing lets get physical a la Olivia Neutron Bomb *shudders*   Ackershally I was very briefly in Milton Keynes last week or as the train guard described it Milk and Beans.

Pippi, did you try the salted fish thing they advertise on the telly while you were in Iceland :-) That's certainly a good excuse to close the restaurant. Certainly better than saying environmental health closed them I suppose ;-)

Mrs Fartyfarfar pants was in Loch Ness?  She kept that quiet!

All good here. Minyums number 2 passed his Poliss assessment centre - yes, M...eldy, he has applied to join - inspired by his wicked aunty M...eldy no doubt. He has an interview in November. I'm running the Stort 30 on 29 October. Its along the towpath of the river Stort in Hertfordshire. It starts in Bishops Stortford and visits sawbridgeworth, harlow and turns around at Hoddeston. Had a rotten 18 miler. It would seem the Dr may be right in her suggestion I have exercise induced asthma. In the end it became impossible to run. I have however been persuaded to do the 20 miler next sunday.

  • SlugstaSlugsta ✭✭✭
    Evening all,

Lovely photo Podds! How is Tom? I do hope he is settling in well. I also hope you managed to enjoy your birthday.

Congratulations MiniYums! Sorry to hear about the EIA Yums - but our Esteemed Meldyness seems to have survived it, so that must tell you something (although I am not actually sure what  . . .). Good luck with the run, I have every faith in you.

SM was on form today, talking a bit, exchanging winks with me and seeming to enjoy Songs of Praise on TV. Everytime I think we have reached the beginning of the end, she bounces back!

    Hello!

Happy belateds Podds - nice dog butt photo.

(((((For those struggling with work, relatives, elderly worries, house buying, appraisals, asthma, and anything else stressful or not nice)))))

I don't think I'll ever need to worry about exercise induced asthma! Hope they can sort you Yums.

Haven't been in for a while myself. Had a holiday in Corfu - much needed. Enjoyed it but feels already like it was a lifetime ago. Having teenage and work issues - never a good combination. Cope better when it's one thing at a time. Sure things will settle soon - it's just wearing for now!

As you know and seem to enjoy my holiday joys - we didn't go on the holiday we booked as it didn't exist and when we finally went we started off down the runway only to stop because a plastic bag was seen going into the engine. Other than that it went without a hitch!

Happy Monday - it's a brand new sparkly week - hope it's a good one
  • To correct slightly Slugs, I thought it was EIA but turns out it is gastric reflux or ulcers, jury is still out (although I’ve not seen the jury for a while)
today I waited in for a second day for a box of lightbulbs ... eventually they arrived and I no longer have burnt retinas

lovely row of bottoms there Podds
  • SlugstaSlugsta ✭✭✭
    Thanks for the correction Meldy!
  • morning all

sorry for my absence ##puts note on Meldy's desk##

I still hate this bliddy forum and it hates us I still have to search for us most times. I agree they are letting the forums fade away - we could always move to our little place in farcebooook - or just wait and see...

sorry I missed you birthday Podds  - hope it was a good one - love the doggy bottoms :)

Pippi - I keep getting JW reminders too, nice memories :) they have stopped the race now which is a shame

Daffs so sorry to hear about your Nan - even though it was her time it's still hard. House moving is very tiring so don't fret about not doing much else for now ((()))

Slugs those good visits are fab aren't they!

Yums shame about the running club but maybe worth trying somewhere else. my club isn't affiliated so at least it doesn't cost me anything - mind you it would be worth it for me this year

welcome back DL - kids and work - yep that's all the stress you need

(((MC))) boo to work! are you still thinking of a career change?

and where's Chuggy? I've spotted her on farcebooook and now poor old Yums has to do the full summary :)

I was off last week we had a Scottish holiday and I ran the Loch Ness marafun - hoorah! I took it steady because I have Birmingham in a few weeks - but I was really pleased with how I ran it and its probably the 1st time I've maintained a pace right to the end! did 4:27 and rather pleased with myself :)

  • Farty that’s an excellent pace for a lumpy race

the JW is no more but I did hear a local club are putting on a similar race which might be worth looking at?

i ran today for the first time in 3 months, lovely to be out and about, even it was trudging 3 odd miles up and down the canal
  • Oh yes, looking at Forest of Dean half next year and then Beachy Head at the end of the year to finish the year off!
  • Evening chums

Another evening at the crime face,  I appear to have picked up some germs on the tube on Wednesday so am a bit snotty

Sunday and Monday to go and then I can have a few days off again  :

  • SlugstaSlugsta ✭✭✭
Melds, I'm sorry that you are entertaining luigi :( Hope you are soon feeling better.

    Went to Tissington yesterday.

    Didn't run

    Obviously

Was very supportive to those that did

until I saw Spence and XB

     ;)

    - what a lovely surprise

Indeed the forums have changed and I believe Facebook is the place to be. One day I may have to embrace the brave new world. Here feels safe and enclosed. Facebook is a bit open to the world.

Woo hoo Farty - you is a proper aferlete. Your efforts should inspire me to get out there and run - sadly it's not working!
  • hi everyone

sorry, been off the forums for a few weeks because work has just been a nightmare, I am so fed up it is unreal. Not going into details but I think the slightest thing will make me hand my notice in and leave asap at the moment.

Was supposed to be doing York marathon today, saw the physio on Friday who taped up my shoulder to prevent that getting aggravated, and then about 9:30 Friday evening I started sneezing. We travelled up to York yesterday in the hope that I would be ok for today but just got worse, feel ill and so no marathon. I have already decided I am not going in tomorrow - given they way they are treating me I am not going to struggle in propped up by paracetamol just to get through a day an be fairly ineffective anyway - who can teach and be enthusiastic when they are ill?

Next Saturday I am going to an open day about training to be an Educational Psychologist. I am going to apply - it is a bit of a long shot because there are only 12 places available at Nottingham but I have the qualifications necessary just need to read up a bit and refresh my knowledge a bit I think and make my application look good. It is difficult to think of a career change when you are coming up to 50 but I am sick of teaching....

shame because I actually like working with the kids

    Evening all,

(((Mc))), I am sorry that you are feeling so rough; that your shoulder is sorely; that you couldn't run the mara today and that your job is making you so miserable :( I really hope you are able to find something else, you have too many years before retirement to continue in misery.

Dl, I'm sure your support was greatly appreciated - even by Spence and XB!

MS and I went to our local cat café today, we met BFF and her family there. We spent a couple of pleasant hours there, even though most of the cats were snoozing. We will visit SM tomorrow, many of the roads near to her were closed this morning to facilitate our marathon, so we couldn't go before lunch.

Morning all. Having popped in few weeks back I then dropped phone so no access without turning computer on. Now on old phone but it sort of works. I have had horrible cold lurgy thing all week but finally feeling better. Did a local 10k yesterday. Was planning to run/walk as legs had not been used much but actually ran most of it. I went on the us site when trying to get in here and saw the forums had gone.

Oh Christ!! Now you've got it twice!!!
    this is a bloody nightmare!!

    please move to Facebook!!

DL I'm ignoring how under whelmed you were to see us I was very excited from the moment XB told me you might be there. He said you were running....we did have a little laugh at that!!! ;-)
  • YumsYums ✭✭✭

LOL Spence!  Lovely to see you. How scenic your toilet was. I can just imagine some poor soul happening along and finding your deposit and wondering how big that dog must have been :-) The forum is a pain but I appear to be coping better than you :-)

Well done Amandax on the 10k. I imagine that's what muscle memory is all about ;-)

A cat café, sluggy? I have heard of them. Does that mean cat hairs in your tea cup and in the icing on your cake ?  How do they stop the cats leaving. Bless SM teasing you by being more alert and interactive but a lovely surprise  its interesting how old folks can be up and down.

DL I did larf at your description of your holibob. How can your holiday not exist ? Did you mention where you went and I've forgotten or did you not mention it ?

Do you think XFC is unknowingly reacting to the fact you've been away or is it just the usual teen angst and stroppiness ?

oh dear, MC. It seems like one thing after another at the moment. I agree entirely with you regarding not going in if you're unwell and the school aren't looking after you. No need to give them your loyalty if they don't show you any.

Well done on the 3 odd miles along the canal path, M...eldy. What was odd about them ? Sorry you have gastric issues. I thought you specialised in giving others ulcers ;-)

How lovely to have a Scottish holiday, Mrs Farfar. As for your taking it easy marafun - what a fantastic time. On that basis you'll be flying at b'ham marafun. Watch out for Spence as she's local.

I did my 20 miler. It went well although pretty much everything below my waist was complaining near the end. Funnily enough since I've been using my inhaler before running I've been cruising along. I even felt reasonably good at the end. Previously I've been utterly exhausted. Whoda thunked the Quack knew what she was talking about ! As this is my first foray into longer distances and because my training has been pants I shall be running on a 6hr schedule with my coach and  chums from the 'other' run club. I will be happy to finish ;-)

  •   morning all

well done on the 10k Amandax

MC sorry you've been poorly and you do sound pretty fed up with work :( I hope you are successful with the possible career change, it is a bit awkward thinking about changing jobs around 50 especially if you are looking for an early retirement - of is that just me :)

Spence - have you thought about taking Imodium before a race/long run? I'm surprised you have this issue considering you always seem to be emptying your bowels :) I've never had a problem in a race - the prerace adrenalin seems to clear it all out, mabybe you're too relaxed ;)

Yums when I did my only ultra it was 30 miles and took over 6 hours - it was no worse than a marafun so I highly recommend taking it nice and slow

I think we should seriously consider moving over to facebook  - we have our little group set up after all
