    Oh heck Flibs I can't help you with any inspiration, I'm an ex plodder!

    Lovely to hear about the Chuglets Chuggy :0)

    ((((( hugs ))))) for WIN

    House move situation turning critical. Vendor's property purchase has an " issue" . I have resorted to chocolate!

    Ponies are getting their teeth done tomorrow. Ah hem Meldy, you've still got time to make the morning ferry :0)  I've got 4 different types of shampoo to go with the hosepipe - Highlights for Chestnuts, Superpoo ( I kid you not, it's legit ), Tea Tree and anti itch. The choice is yours :0) Dentist is due at 12.15. Operation Porkball sedation commencing at 11.30 hours. Wish me luck!

    ((((( waisters )))))
  • Oh Flib, I do think people like you do not get the honour you deserve these days. Working 5 days a week is hard, and when you are constantly overloaded, as everyone in the NHS is now, it must be really tough.

    Snaily is always commenting on how hard it is to recruit, although she has had some good success in the Philippines (where she actually is at the moment, I think). I hope they manage to get some more staff in, because it's hard to see how we can go on like this.

    Hope you do manage to get to the gym, it always makes people more cheerful. Quite a few of us have been in a bit of a dip with out chugging, I know. At the end of 2016 I had a nagging lower leg pain that got worse until I could barely hobble; going up stairs really hurt. Doctor, physio, neurologist all said nothing was wrong but it felt like a knife sticking into my leg with every step. In the end, Meldy sorted it (of course!): told me to do hip strengthening exercises. 9 months late I can walk 3 or 4 miles again and enjoy it without pain. Might try to chug a little bit one of these days. I reckon if we find inspiration anywhere,
    it will be here with the WAISters!

    Someone called for some inspiration - well hello - here I am!!!!!!

    I think I qualify, my unstinting and unwavering commitment to running, my ever increasing speeds and distances, my utter joy in running, smiling through the miles and the rain, laughing through the injuries and skipping with delight at the thought of entering and completing races.

    Oh sorry, inspiration you said, I confused it with delusion - sorry no help here.

    Saying that I did manage to drag myself out this morning and there wasn't any swearing - does that help??

    ~~~~~~~(((((house moves, motivation, work stress, dentist's visits and all manner of life's complications))))))~~~~~
    Glad to hear your clan are making their way in the world Chuggy - time flies doesn't it.
    XFC is apparently back home though she seems to be staying over at a 'friend's" more often than not. She managed a bit of work which didn't last so she'll be out spending all the money. We expect her home again soon!!
    Hope the sun is shining where you are and that something unexpectedly happy happens to you today
  • SlugstaSlugsta ✭✭✭
    Afternoon all,
    It is, indeed, nice to see everyone back in the fold :)
    Tubs, I'm sorry to hear that the house move has stalled again. I know how unsettling I found it when I wasn't sure where I would be living in a few months time! :( I really hope you have good news soon. Good luck with the neddy dentist.
    Chuggy, thanks for the 'catch-up', it is great to know that the Cs are all doing well :)
    Flubs, you have my sympathy! It is so hard when you cannot deliver the care you know people need because you don't have the time/resources. It leads to a dilemma - do you leave, so that you are not implicated in substandard care (but leaving the service with even fewer staff)? Or do you dig in and do your best, always worried that a crisis will occur on your shift?
    'Poaching' staff from other countries has always happened - but I know that some places are begging us not to, as they have staffing issues of their own! :(
    (((Pods))), I know how you hate exam season :(
    No singing for me this morning as I had an appointment to have my barnet fettled.
    (((WIN)))
    Morning all. I have a day off today to recover from the hospital appointment yesterday. I am not to use any machinery including the kettle, apparently. Having been sedated, I might forget what
  • SlugstaSlugsta ✭✭✭
    Was this your polyp removal Pippi? Whatever, I hope you are feeling OK today (((hugs))).
  • (((Pippi)))
    I am currently sat in hospital with OH who has had an operation on his wrist, I think all the sitting around is more tiring than work!!
  • SlugstaSlugsta ✭✭✭
    Hope your OH heals quickly Flibs.
  • Oh dear, Flibs, that sounds inconvenient, to say the least! Hope Mr Flibs recovers quickly. And Sluggie put the 'dilemma' for NHS staff far better than I could---of course she speaks from knowledge, but it must be very stressful indeed. xx
    (((Pippi))) If you aren't allowed to use the kettle I hope there is a constant relay of people standing ready to make you infinite cups of tea ;-) and of course that you feel a lot better soon.
    Sluggie, what did you have done to the hair? Have you turned into a curly platinum blonde when I was away??
    DL, you are a constant and unfailing inspiration to us all. (Won't say what you are inspiring us to do, but the effect is quite dramatic ;-) And I take a vicarious pleasure in seeing you enjoying the thrill of having a teenage family member---in and out, wants to be at home and doesn't.... Actually it can be quite a confusing time even for kids who have had a clear run so far, and XFC didn't have it all that easy to begin with, so even though it's bumpy at the moment, her knowing she really DOES have a home that she can always go back to, must make a lot of difference to her. xx
    Workmen still working in the house. Finally the cupboards got put in today, so they hope to be finished with everything except the painting by the end of next week. It will be nice to have a washing machine again! Oh, and Monty and I went out for a 5 mile walk yesterday: most of you would run that before breakfast, but compared to where I was this time last year, I'm a happy Chuggie :-)
    Time to make dinner so have a happy evening all xxx
  • Pippi LSPippi LS ✭✭✭
    Thanks. I had 4 little ones removed this time but I feel fine. I didn't go out until this afternoon though, just in case. They said you might have a short lapse of memory, but you won't know because you'll have forgotten! And I did use the kettle - it turns itself off anyway!
    Flibs, hope the OH is okay.
  • OH is good thank you, back at home with a half pot thing on, realising how much you take your hands for granted!!
  • morning all its almost like old times in  here :)
    Pippi I hope you are feeling better today - and your memory is restored
    Chuggs it was lovely to hear about your chuglets I'm so glad there are all doing so well - poor C1 has had a tough time hasn't she. all we want is for them to be happy isn't it, that becomes more apparent the older we/they get
    Mr FF is waiting some pretty major surgery to rebuild his ankle and is living on a diet of painkillers.  his op was cancelled in January along with most planned surgery but he now has a new date in April. I know its a big op and he will be off his feet for 12 weeks - but I really want this to be over with (and successful of course) because it really has hampered his life and meant we can't plan any days out/hols with too much time on our feet which is sad.
    I have a half marathon on Sunday -  and the weather is set to turn back to freezing blizzards -gah!
  • SlugstaSlugsta ✭✭✭
    Morning all,
    Pippi, I am glad that you are feeling OK, it was certainly worth getting rid of those polyps!
    Flibs, I am glad that Mr F is OK.
    Jenni, I bet Mr FarFar is finding the inactivity difficult after a life of playing rugby etc. I hope the op goes well and gets him back on his feet again. Good luck with the mara on Sunday!
    Chuggy, it is great to hear from you! I hope that your workmen soon finish the job and leave you to enjoy your revamped kitchen.
  • Afternoon All
    Lovely to get so many updates of people's lives and healing vibes to those who've been surgeried this week :)
    Nothing much here other than Mr P in a strop!!  He went to get a GP letter as he's got an event in France coming up and the doc wouldn't give him one as he wasn't his regular doc (despite Mr P saying what he wanted when he made the appointment).
    This annoyed Mr P immensely.....then doc said, as you're here might as well do blood pressure etc........and back came a reading of 170 / 90!!  Doc panicked and has made Mr P have blood tests next week at hospital and ECG at the quacks and Mr P has got in more of a strop as he's convinced the reading was high because he was stressed by the Doc!!  He's furthermore cheesed off as he's been trying to follow a healthy diet and lifestyle..........
    Other than that not a lot other than horrible weather (more snow and windy) and sadly Yums and NYL have postponed (joint decision!) their visit due to the forecast for the weekend which even if the snow doesn't make travel dodgy, will certainly make outside dog activities etc pretty unpleasant..........we are going for 3rd time lucky in April  :D
  • One minute its snowing, then the sun is out! It is consistently cold though! Venturing to the local pub for a friends birthday so the weather won't affect that!
    Was going to gym this morning but i just couldn't be bothered! Have booked in for a spin class tomorrow so that should motivate me!
    Poor Mr Podds seems he went to doc for one thing and came away with something entirely different!
    Must be so frustrating for Mr Farfar having the op cancelled, i know that mr flib was glad to get this one done as it was affecting work and making him quite miserable.
    Good luck with the half mara JFF
  • In other news............
    ............Tom and Badger would like supportive vibes please as they are going on a 12K Duke of Edinburgh walk next Saturday...........
    Tom is really fit (I have no idea why but he always has been) and will happily go all day and all night given the chance
    Badger is a lazy a*se and only comes out really as he wants to be with me and Tom and doesn't want to miss out!!
    Elvis of course gets to stay at home being a very senior gent these days :)
    Was quite glad to see the maps yesterday and note that they've planned 3 or 4 escape routes so am wondering if I can shove Badger on the minibus and continue with Tom if necessary!!!  Not sure how that will go down with colleague driving the minibus mind  :D
  • SlugstaSlugsta ✭✭✭
    Afternoon all,
    Podds, how frustrating for Mr P! But well worth getting sorted if his B/P really is high. What a shame that you and Yums have had to postpone your get-together again :( but sounds like the right thing, given the weather.
    MS and I went out to get some 'clip lights' for the bedroom but, despite my careful measurements, they don't fit :/ There are things that can be done to make them suitable, so we will keep hold of them. We had lunch while we were out and also popped into ASDA. I am hardly ever in that shop, so too the chance to get some new bolder-holders :)
    It is snowing here! Not much, and not sticking yet. Enough to be glad that we can come inside, shut the curtains, turn up the heating and enjoy relaxing.
  • Absolutely re staying in Sluggie :)
    I've just decided I'm not driving down to Dover to swim this arvo........it's 45 mins each way and conditions aren't so bad I couldn't go but equally so it's just below zero with snow flurries and wet roads which could freeze and as I'm neither running nor cycling why not "not swim" too to make up the triathlon :D
  • TubsterrTubsterr ✭✭✭
    Glad you're ok Pippi :0)
    Hope Mr P gets his blood pressure sorted Podds. My GP told me I had a deranged blood pressure reading a few years ago and a heart murmur, a stiff aortic valve. Put the fear of God into me! Made an appointment in the U.K. with a heart specialist. Blood pressure ok and no heart murmur whatsoever. The consultant said it was my thyroid meds which can make me a bit " jittery". Not a very pleasant few weeks!
    I'm sure Badger will be perfectly happy on the minibus :0)
    (((( Mr FF )))) the waiting seems to take forever, but nearly April so not too much longer now
    We were out at the ponies for over 6 hours on Weds in the horrible weather, inside the stables but it was like the special effects in old nautical films, sheets of water coming in through the door! Porky took forever to come round from her sedation. I was huddled in the corner in soaking waterproofs, she was snuggled under 3 rugs snoozing happily! Nemo didn't need sedating, he can be a little b*gger with the vet but was fine with the dentist - apart from clamping his jaws shut on the rasp a couple of times!
    We had a phone call yesterday to say that we are exchanging contracts on Monday and completing the following Monday. Call me sceptical, but I've just seen a pig fly past the window :0)
    ((((( waisters )))))
  • Glad the ponies came through ok Tubbs and will hope that the flying pig turns out to be a mirage and that all goes smoothly with the house
    Still giggling slightly at the picture of you washing Meldy's hair by hosepipe using Highlights for Chestnuts or Superpoo shampoo  :D
  • TubsterrTubsterr ✭✭✭
    I've got a Pesky Pest wash one as well but I didn't dare suggest that one :0)
    By the time we got home on Weds we looked like we'd had a hosepipe turned on us! All worth it because the ponies teeth are all in good nick. Megs is nearly 23 and Porkball 24 so they need a bit of extra care now. Unlike my flipping root canalled molar which is niggling away at the moment. I've got a gold crown on it so I told Mini Tubs I used to be a Pirate and all good Pirates have at least one gold tooth :0) Now he's 11 he thinks I'm nuts but up until a few years ago he was seriously impressed :0)
  • SlugstaSlugsta ✭✭✭
    LOL Tubs. It's hard to believe that the Mini is 11 now! :* I am glad that the neddies got through their dental ordeal well.
    Podds, I didn't know there is a canine DoE award! :o I think you made the right decision  in abandoning the idea of swimming.
  • LOL at gold tooth Tubbs
    Reminds me of some years ago when I rocked up to school with a tri number tattoo still on my arm from the Sunday and one of the kids asked a colleague what it was and she told them it was my boxing number from weekend bouts in a prison..........could not work out why the kids were giving me funny looks until she confessed !!
    Canine DofE is only to get staff out!! They were a bit thin on the ground until Joss said staff could bring their dogs and now there are quite a few of us going  :D
  • morning all Stafford half was cancelled - well postponed til April, they got quite a lot of stick about not giving refunds etc but I have a lot of sympathy with the organisers especially where there are road closures it must be difficult to get the books to balance
    I think the houndies should get their own DofE awards :)
  • Lots of WAISter partners seem to be in the wars these days!
    Flib, a wrist op must be sooo frustrating. You need your hands for almost everything, as you realise if you can't use one of them! Hope he's feeling better by the day. How long before he can use his hand normally again? In the meantime, the idea of sitting in a lovely English pub in this freezing weather is making me feel very homesick...!
    Pippi, good for you re those polyps. There's a lot of peace of mind in getting rid of them. And if you don't even remember forgetting, it can't have been too awful! ;-)
    JFF, Mr FF's ankle sounds seriously unpleasant. He must hate being so limited. And it's hard to build up to an op, then have it cancelled, and have to nerve yourself up all over again so I really hope the April date goes through. Good that your half was cancelled, though---the wind is really dangerously chilling.
    Podds, poor Mr. P---thought he was getting a fitness certificate and got a BP referral! But with that BP, it's a bliddy good thing they spotted it. Let us know what the follow-up investigations show. Shame about the get together with Yums, but April isn't far off now. As for the D of D, brilliant idea to do it with the hounds. (And also good to have some escape routes, so Badger can bow out gracefully if he needs to.)
    Sluggie, how nice that you got to enjoy the pleasures of Asda! Cheered up your world no end, obviously ;-) But I'm with you, in this weather there's nothing nicer than closing the door and feeling warm and safe inside.
    Tubs, I hope that by now you have exchanged contracts, with no more last-minute hitches!!! The emotional wear and tear of property dealing is not to be wished on anyone. But at least the dental problems of Megs and Porky have been dealt with (and I hope your root canal behaves itself---you don't need dental problems yourself, but obviously that gold tooth is an important part of your street cred ;-)
    Still perishing cold here, wind right off the Siberian steppes. So a couple of shorter walks with Monty; it's too cold to be out there for long. Plumber came to put the sink back up. It's been outside the kitchen door for the last week and the cold cracked it :-((( So we have to get a new one (more time and money....but that's building projects for you). But it will be worth it. I hadn't realised how shabby the kitchen was: it hadn't been touched for 50 years, so this will be a vast improvement. And having been able to re-use most of what we had, just refinishing it, has helped a lot.
    Woohooo, Tubs has exchanged contracts!!! And on that happy note, night all xx
  • Yayyy good news Tubbs :-)
    I dont envy you refurbishing chuggs, I find it complicated enough choosing what colour to paint walls - hence its all very neutral in my house!!
    Mr F is back at consultant in 3wks so pot on until at least then but I think it will be a while before back to full strength, he has had his ulna bone shortened and a pin put in.
    Plan on a swim before work so good night from me xx
  • SlugstaSlugsta ✭✭✭
    Afternoon all,
    Yay! Great news for Tubs :) I hope the rest of the process goes much more smoothly.
    Flibs, that sounds a painful procedure for your OH! Do you mind me asking why it was needed (it is not something I have heard of before)? I hope he tolerates his inactivity well and is soon on the mend.
    MS and I went to an amateur concert yesterday evening - BFF's hubby plays the cello with them. It was rather 'curate's egg' but they did their best and a local charidee benefited so I am not complaining.
    BFF and her OH are off on their holls tomorrow (doing the same 'northern lights' trip that we did last year). MS and I will be supporting their son while they are away. Poor lad suffers badly from depression and needs several phone calls each morning just to get him out of bed and into work. As he lives several hours away, the support will all be phone related (unless, dog forbid, something goes very wrong!) so not too onerous I hope.
    We had a little more snow over the weekend but not as bad as the time before. It has mostly gone now and we are promised warmer temperatures - although they don't seem to have arrived yet!
    (((WIN)))
  • TubsterrTubsterr ✭✭✭
    Having your support will be a big help Sluggie I'm sure. I think our contact and support via messenger have been helpful to my useless brother's daughter.  We had to alert her social worker but it needed to be done. It's a mess. My brother hasn't seen her since she was 6 wks old and she's now 16. You'd think with our history of abandonment and parental neglect he'd be there for his kids. My sister has been brilliant, I'm a bit out of my depth with it all but she's really been a huge help. And to me personally, I really needed someone after losing my friend and she found me a few months later. Funny how things turn out. I'd known for years I had a brother but no idea about a full sister. We still haven't met but are in touch most days.
    Sorry your half was cancelled JFF but good it's been rescheduled :0)
    What a shame about your sink Chuggy, but it will be lovely to have your kitchen all sorted soon. It was very cold here over the weekend but much warmer today. The neddies are all out naked today but will need Jim jams back on this evening.
    finally exchanged just before 5 yesterday. All flying pigs landed safely :0) Complete on Monday, I should be packing but I appear to be doing everything but!
    ((((((( waisters )))))))
  • Swimmed this morning, gym in a bit - maybe my mojo has reappeared!
    Slugs - apparently the ulna bone was too long and with the years of wear and tear had worn away the cartilage in his wrist leaving bone rubbing against bone causing him pain, that's how oh explained it but I'm not sure he always listens properly in consultations!! I think the nature of his job has meant it wearing quicker over the years. He did have a steroid injection in his wrist but that didnt do anything so hopefully the surgery will do the trick!
    Sorry to hear about your niece tubs, it sounds like a rough time, glad you have found your sister - have you any plans to meet?
  • SlugstaSlugsta ✭✭✭
    Evening all,
    Tubs, I am glad that you have exchanged contracts now and hope that the actual move goes well. How lovely that your sister appeared just when you needed her :)
    Flibs, it sounds as if OH's wrist must have been very painful :( I hope this op does what is needed.
    Chuggy, what a shame about your sink!
