Low immune system

Is it true that shortly after running a marathon you have low resistence to colds etc?

  • I'm no expert but yeah that's what I'd heard. Any hard excercise reduces your immunity temporarily.
  • Hi Ian, Liz is right, any hard exercise lowers your immune system temporarily. It is believed to be lowered for a couple of days afterwards so the best way to avoid colds is to beef up your immune system with multivitamins and minerals (I take them all the time and only get the occasional 'sniffle' and nothing worse)
