Triathlon training/Heart Rate training


Can anyone please tell me whether the recognised running HR zones also equate to triathlon training and if so, where the emphasis is (i.e. 3/4 easy and 1/4 medium and intense for eg)?
Last year was spent marathon training where there is so much emphasis on training within three zones: easy (65-75% of WHR), medium (75-85% of WHR) and pretty damn intense (85%+). I can only find real general descriptions of HR training for triathlon training and nothing specific for the three disciplines, particularly where they need to be combined. Thanks very much.


  • same kind of principles apply, except you can knock 5 or 10 beats off everything for cycling (max hr etc) because cycling uses fewer muscles than running, so its harder work to get to the same heart rate
