I recently bought a cheap HRM from Maplins which seemed to be a good bargain. I have a couple of problems with it: it automatically calculates the zones once you've input your age and gender and you can't seem to change the upper and lower limits; the buttons are difficult to press and the alarm is too quiet to hear when you are out of your zone.
Can anyone recommend a good HRM that isn't too expensive but which overcomes all the above problems? Thanks.

There are cheaper models out there though polar monitors do last!!
It's from the line before the 'm' series. It'll do everything you want.
I'll send you a few more details if your interested.
If you splash out on the better Polar's I dont think you can go wrong. My (sorry, my wifes) Polar M21 has lasted 2.5 years and is still going strong, even after exceesive use.
The Suunto really is the dogs nads, and being able to connect to the PC is great. I believe there are Polar's that will do this for about half the price.
Best to check that they still bundle it with the watch however.
