Pelvic pain

I have had problems with my pelvis throughout all my pregnancies, the last one being over four years ago, and I have found with increasing my training the pain is re-occuring.

I had diastis (?) of the symphis pubis and was basically told to rest.

The pain is again at the centre of my pubic bone and affects the left side of my pelvis and hip. I have also discovered that I have very poor rotation in my left hip and leg which may or may not be related.

I am wondering whether I should go to a physio, and if so should it be a sports or a pregnacy specialist. ( not pregnant)

Does anyone have any ideas or has heard of anyone else with similar problems ?

Thanks

Definitely see a physio, Hoover. It's all likely to be related. Although separation of the symphysis pubis can't be repaired, strengthening the surrounding muscles and correcting biomechanical irregularities should allow you to be able to run.

How many children is "too many", anyway?

You have my sympathy Hoover - I had that with both my pregnancies (was on crutches towards the end of the last one). I still get the odd twang of pain (usually only bothers me around TOTM), but the old chestnut of see a physio and strengthen the surrounding/supportive muscles is the only thing that can be done.

    Gosh
    Sympathies all round.

One child can be too many. I've got 2.

I suppose that put into context, the incidence of death during childbirth has been radically reduced, but it's still a monumental strain on any body.

Thanks for the advice and sympathy. I had noticed it was worse at certain times of the month.

I only have three children, but 3 to many for pelvis to cope with. Will try and find a good physio. I was scared the answer would be stop running.

Am much relieved to know you are all continuing to run....I was a beginner runner when I fell pregnant had to stop due to pubic pain and instability. Baby now 10 weeks old any body any tips for unfit beginner with dodgy pelvis starting to run again?

Debbie, no expert on this (26 weeks pregnant, first baby) , but from what i've heard from other mums etc, may be an idea to go to a physio to check out your pelvic alignment (pregnancy can knock it out a bit or something), may give you exercises and advice on how to build up your muscles and running without injury, there is an excellent thread Pregnant Runners club and lots of them have great advice on running pregnany and running after pregnancy.
