Oooh where is the Nike run going to be then?
  • Options
Battersea or Hyde Park i guess....?
  • Options
Or will it be Silverstone? That well known London track?
I wonder if they'd be allowed back to Kew - I thought there were too many people for that now though.

Hugh - many thanks for the detailed explanation. This puts everything in context as I'd little idea what goes into an event like this.

I'm really looking forward to running this, especially now that I know how much effort has gone into the organisation.

Many thanks and hope it runs like clockwork on the day.

Hi Hugh, many thanks for the explanation, it hadn't occured to me just how much this would all cost, thank you for listing it all so comprehensively too, it's nice to have things cleared up!

Yay! My shirt and number arrived today.
Thanks Hugh for all the hard work. I'm really looking forward to this one.

I have just revised my target time, as on reading the course details the first 1.5 miles is uphill and then undulating + I will run it as a training run as it is not officially timed. In orther words I will 'enjoy' the race.

It does make me smile when peeps comment on how they had not realisd the cost of staging such an event!

My club puts on a small off road event and are usually lucky if we break even. Nothing is free, we need first aid which as contary to belief does not come free! Loos! all sorts of things and if you are going into road closures up the cost goes again + insurance.

I shall me there Sunday and I think the order of the day is going to be just to enjoy it, I'm not hoping for a PB with the volume of runners!!

    Oh My God!

Son and I took the bus to Richmond Park (was really chuffed at how easy it was to get there, number 14 then the 170!) and decided to walk the 10k course.

My legs ache sooo much, the hills are horrendous! Am glad in a way that I've kinda familiarised myself with the route and know where the hills are roughly along the way but I have scared the pants off myself in the process too. I'm aching like this now and I normally walk around 15 miles a week anyway, how on earth am I going to be able to run it too!

Definitely couldn't give a monkeys what time I complete the race in, am just going to give myself an almighty pat on the back if I actually complete it in under an hour and a half!

Just thought I'd add - what a gorgeous park! It was so lovely for my son and I to be able to sit and eat our sandwiches with deer literally a few feet away from us, really felt like we'd left London altogether, and my son can't wait to get to school on Monday and tell his classmates that he walked 10 kilometers!

I've only ever run it the 'Nike' way round..so dont really know what to expect. I do know however i've picked a very dumb race to start with after 3 months off running....!!!!
  • Options
Think the 'Nike' way is far harder? That bloody great hill (Broomfield Hill?) just after Robin Hood Gate at about 2K stage.....what a killer! Think this way round is preferable, but we'll see! At least this way you only get a slow climb at the start up to Richmond gate.

  • Options
I'm with Matt - the hill by Robin Hood was really punishing! At least this way round, when we get there we can just roll down :o)

But don't worry because, as I've said before, hills are just flats at an angle...

I must remember that one Benjamin, hills are just flats at an angle. I like it!

I havnt got time to read back to find out where people are meeting. Could someone email me the dets? Pleeeeeease!!!!
  • Options
Don't worry Tinks I've only been running for about 3 months too! I'll be one of the ones at the back puffing and sweating away!

Yeah that's a point, where is everyone meeting, how will I recognise people?

    Hi Tara

If you've been running for the past 3 months you'll do better than me..after running a marathon in March I have come to a grinding halt and have hardly run since. God knows what Sunday will be like, especially if it stays this warm.

At least theres a few of us looking to come in at around the same time though :)
  • Options
aaah I didn't read your post properly sorry, I thought you said you'd had three months of running - not OFF running.

You'll be fine if you've been able to run 26 miles - 6 miles will be a doddle!

Isn't it a bit dangerous to stop running suddenly after building up so much first?
  • Options
dont think its dangerous, just damn lazy! I've kept up going to the gym about 4 times a week, but just cant get back into putting one leg in front of the other with any speed! Time will tell i guess!!!
  • Options
    hehe I have zero speed!

I thought you meant you'd done no physical exercise since the marathon, was worried! I knew a guy who was bang into his bodybuilding and used to do weights quite regularly. He met a girlie who took a dislike to his bulging muscles and ordered him to stop, which he did (fool), he suffered soooo much pain, his body just couldn't adapt!
  • Options
Isn't it nice to get a straight answer to concerns about this race...?

    Well done Hugh Brasher.
  • Options
hello! Does anyone want to help me pace my race???!! Hoping to go sub 42 mins but have been starting too fast recently and putting in some terrible times!

You run a five and a half minute mile rundown?? Flippin hell!

    *Feels really slow and doddery*!

Anyone know if there's a forum meeting point?
  • Options
Nope and I reckon it's going to be pretty packed out!!
  • Options
Josie Jump is manning (not the right word) the Forumite meeting point: hope she will post with details. There is a meet point and post race picnic: all forumites welcome.
    Hills. Gulp.
  • Options
    Hi Tara,

I'm hoping for 5 and a quarter min miles, but I here it's a bit hilly.
Can't imagine the full 10,000 limit being reached.
