I was very sorry to read that Chris Boardman, someone who has done more than pretty much anyone in the last decade to promote safety for cyclists through changing legislation and encouraging investment, lost his mum to a hit and run accident while she was out cycling yesterday.
Chris and family, my deepest sympathy.

RIP. Very sad news.
Terrible news. I wouldn't cycle anywhere but off-road, it's just too dangerous.
Lots of things are dangerous. Doesn't make some of them not worth doing though.
FWIW, I suspect the incidence per mile of injury off road vs on road is much higher.
It's sad news and I'm thinking of Chris and his family.
So sad.
she was on a bicycle.... hence the description.... but take your point.
Sad news but at least she was doing something that she loved.
Incident was on a roundabout. No information about speed of vehicle but it doesn't take much to cause a fatal injury, simply the angle of impact, or even just falling off the bike.
I've ridden the roads for years. Some places are to be avoided. One also has to have some modicum of common sense.
Can't just force 'right of way' because you are 'in the right'. You may well be. But making sure others know 'you own the road' means you've probably got issues.
Meet a driver also with issues... and I'll hope I'm nowhere near.
🙂
Good job ...
Excellent.........
Heart goes out to CB - so ironic to lose his mum that way
