Im not sure a definitive decision has been made re the championships race next year.
I thought it was drifting towards IMUK but that seems to be waning?
There seem threo other key options which spring to my mind:
Lanza (the 2013 champs that never was)
Lakesman
Lake Placid
I'll put my hat in the ring and say that I think it should be Lanza, there are a lot of people already signed up to race and support.
Not sure how many are confirmed for Lakesman yet and only one I know of doing Lake Placid
Perhaps the best way is a collective decision by those at this years champs in Mallorca?
Comments
Isn't Mallorca going to be a bit late ?
How many are signed up for lanza..I know a lot are signed up to watch...but are many actually racing it..
Yes it is a bit late, but may not matter as none of those mentioned are likely to fill up quickly?
Can decide sooner if thats a concern?
Its not so easy to decide with now the pirates are so much bigger, but I think it should come down to those at previous years champs races, rather than a vote which lead to a bit of a limp decision.
the Lakesman is getting close to full when I last heard
Will also be in Mallorca supporting this year so does that give me a vote in matters?!
Certainly does, though I didnt mean a vote a such, just a means of reaching a collective decision via discussions within a group that has an iron in the fire so to speak.
From my experience the best way of deciding is a core group making a decision then putting it out there. Putting something to a wider vote often results in a compromise that not many are really behind, be that events, socials etc.
Ultimately the champs doesnt have to be the most popular event or most attended, else we'd be at Outlaw every year, but it does need a critical mass.
I think with hindsight, a decision sooner would have been a good thing Barlos.... not that I've any skin in the game as I'll be supporting in 2017, not racing... but IMHO, its not just about race entry remaining open.... for many, the annual leave plan needs sorting with work and family, agreement with family reaching on taking on the training, scheduling around other commitments and races arranging, and autumn is too late for that for many... plus, if a venue for the champs is chosen that doesn't work for an individual for some reason such as a date that clashses with a big family occasion, then their options have been narrowed a lot for other race entries by the late decision.... we've had this done and dusted generally by April/May in the past... Too late to worry about it this year mind you, but I feel that we should make a concerted effort in the spring next year to get agreement on the venue for the champs in 2018 nailed down nice and tight.
And then doing what Meldy decides
But I'm for Lanza as well
The trouble with starting a hundred threads for 2017 is that they all get somewhat diluted ...
i do agree to an extent making a decision at *this* years champs is a good idea but not altogether fair to those who have entered various other races already thinking that they had entered the right one
Happy to go with the majority. I have an entry for Lanza so would love it to be that, and sadly won't be at either Lakeman or Bolton (other commitments). I may consider another race later in the year - I have half an inkling to go back to IMCH.
Lanza is a nice low-key event, don't want lots of championship goings-on going on!
But Lanza is a really bad time for a lot of people..............especially those with kids who need to be taken into consideration!
Personally I'm not to fussed which event it is (*cough* Lanza), I just started this thread to try and prompt a decision.
Shall we say unless a critical mass/collective agreement is reached then it's decided at Mallorca.
Next year we'll make a point of deciding early season as per previous years
Trying to think of which champs apart from Henley and Outlaw (in UK and so largely irrelevant to the school hols question) have been held outside of term time.
Certainly not Austria x2, France, Roth, Switzerland as far as I'm aware.
Nothing, which is why they are in brackets with the explanation because they don't have the same implications on school hols as the others which tend to need 3 or 4 days holiday at least.
that wasnt in reply to you, was just a question in general ;-)
Maybe I wasn't replying to you…
You are not too old for a slap you know
Brave on the keyboard aren't we?
... you'll keep
Vichy is in school hols and does the half IM on the Saturday.
I've watched Lake Placid on DVD and there is a massive crocodile in it.
See you at Ruta66
No IM for me next year but if it's UK based I will be along to support ???? You might want to consider Copenhagen for a flat n fast one I will let you know how good it is in a couple of weeks????
I am going IM UK next year as there seemed to be a crowd going there (but can transfer)...
As I will hopefully have 12 IM finishes after Mallorca, I would be hesitant about going to race in August, just in case I get lucky.
A June/July race would be my latest... if in Europe or UK means realistically only Nice, Frankfurt, Zurich or Bolton, Klagenfurt Sold out.
USA Lake Placid or Whistler, or Vineman would also work in that time frame.
Other thoughts:
Lanza too early for any proper hill training for me and a nightmare to get to from CH-Land
Nice done twice as champs but very scenic bike.
Frankfurt very short time limit 15hours
Zurich done twice as champs. Olympic and short courses offered too hotels etc expensive specially with the GBP as it is.
With the shite exchange rates at the moment, Challenge Poznan (Poland) may come in on budget? They do Sprint, Standard, Half and Full distances. http://challenge-poznan.pl/en/
(No date set for 2017 yet though? But hopefully during school hols!)
