Always wanted to do the Kingston Marathon 'sometime soon', imagining myself to be some seasoned marathon runner in the future.
Well, this is the last year the marathon will be happening in Kingston, apparently, so is it time for my first marathon?
I'll only enter it if I'm confident I can make the cut-off time, of 18 miles in 3 hours (10 minute miling)
I'm very tempted!

anyone know why they're canning it? i always got the impression KRF was quite popular.
its only the marathon that is being stopped though, the other races will go on after this year.
and yes, just done the Kingston 8 and I'd say the October versions are just as popular from the hordes of people running
Kingston's near your old stomping ground, isn't it, Ed? fancy a nice flat marathon course?
yeh i've always kept an eye on the dates in case it lines up conveniently, although i was toying with london to brighton (another event that keeps looking like being on it's last legs too) which is october too i think.
I suppose as old races cease to exist, new ones are springing up all over the place.
Jose, do you think you might do this marathon?
I am also trying to bring a couple of friends of Spain to run this one, as it is flat, fast and local. One of my mates is looking for getting under 3 hours (his best I think is 3.09, he did London 3 years ago in 3.17) so I think Kingston could be a good one for him.
mad i know
You have mail!
right I'm going to enter it. Sorry to john lunt for the possiblity that you might have to throw me off the course at 18 miles, but I'm really going to make sure I get past the cut off point, and finish in a respectable time. Its an extra motivation to get a good time, rather than just aiming to finish.
I've been wondering about other marathons around the world and have decided to take the 57 bus instead of a plane.
Just because it's the last time.
Would have liked to have done this race, but committed to Abingdon now. What does anybody think about doing the 8M @MP a week before Abingdon..?
I've done the breakfast run the last 4 years and although I don't like the trafiic it is still very well organised and bus distance from home, so here we go.
It's a shame it's the last one as it's a wonderfully flat, fast race. I like the 3-lap thing too, as it's very easy to visualise how far you've got left.
Got to watch for the traffic at a couple of junctions, which isn't easy to do on your last lap, and also can be a pain to overtake back-markers from the shorter races.
I did the 16 miler last month and it was great, so roll on October.
Then IF I get into FLM 2005 I reckon I just might be able to knock 1.15 hour off my PB and get into the British Olympic Team.......!
and time recording is off after 4h30'
(and the olympics are a month earlier)
sorry
