    Good Late Afternoon Everyone,

HS, We're working hard at not worrying about Brian, but try as we might...However, he has an in person appointment with a new primary care doctor a week from tomorrow.  We seriously weighed the pros and cons of going into the office and decided that it was worth having someone actually look at the swelling, and listen to his heart in person  The new doctor is my doctor, and I trust her to let us know if we are okay riding out the virus without any further intervention into Brian's health issues.

Trump seems to have once again changed his mind. He now seems to think that the virus is in fact different from the regular flu, and has had a revelation that lots of people could die.  I can't imagine the mental gymnastics that his supporters must go through to rationalize his craziness.

I think that we ended up with Trump due to Clinton's immense unpopularity in a situation similar to Corbyn and Johnson.  It is a little over 8 months until our election. Gosh only knows what will happen between now and then.

How nice of Sarah H. to knock on your window!  I agree that in many cases the silver lining to the virus is the strengthening of relationships, and acts of compassion.  It's really hard for me to imagine spitting on anyone, but I'm afraid that we have such foul acts occurring in the US, as well.  I am mostly trying to focus on the local community and ignore the scandals.

I hope that you had a nice run today, and maybe saw some of your running buddies at a distance.

WtnMel,  How wonderful to have a possible resident for your nesting box!  We haven't had bird boxes for years, due to a steady stream of cats and one dog that would jump into the air and grab birds that were taking off from the bushes. It was quite horrifying.  We no longer have cats (or that deranged little dog), but the tree that we would use for a nesting box is now home to a bunch of squirrels.  It's a sore point with my husband, as the squirrels use the tree to get up on the roof, but I really enjoy watching them.

I'm giving it another week, and then I am going out and starting to clean out my raised beds, even if I have to wear a down parka.  I have a bunch of seedlings being delivered in a few weeks, and I need to start some seeds.

Aquarius, I read a post that said that we now only have three days: yesterday, today, and tomorrow.  It is strange how the way we perceive time is changing.  Brian and I are working hard to make the weekends somehow different. But, our pace during the week is very different from what we are used to.  In some ways, I am actually enjoying the changes.  Because so many things are cancelled at the moment, it looks like I am going to have a stretch where I will be able to just enjoy my work and not worry about deadlines.

When we are on the other side of this nightmare, I'm sure that you will find that you and Steve are 'young', fit and independent. These youngsters are just super bossy when they get worried

Ha! Brian would sympathize with your neighbor. My husband doesn't have much hair left, but there is no way he is letting me near him with scissors.  He's pulled out the clippers and is buzzing his hair until he can get a proper haircut.

For the record, I have never found your posts to be tedious rubbish.  I always like hearing about what you are doing.  But, I am sorry that the knee injury is being stubborn. I hope it heals soon. It is really too bad that you can't get your physio to look at it.

Today was a humbling treadmill session.  I've had this treadmill for almost 8 years.  I got it after we moved here from Maine, because my old one was slowly dying.  I haven't used the preprogrammed workouts since that first year. However, one of the reasons that I chose this model was because of it's preprogrammed trail runs and the fact that the incline goes up to 40 (the decline goes down quite a bit, as well). Today, I chose an 'easy' pre-programmed route for a 'rolling hills/hill training' session. Suffice it to say that I have clearly lost all ability as a trail runner.  It was such a poor performance that it was almost funny.  Or, would have been funny if I hadn't been breathing too hard to laugh.  The other thing I discovered is that really utilizing the incline/decline feature of the treadmill is way too much for my little RDpods chips to process. I got some fairly bizarre data out of the 'run'.

Tomorrow is a cross training day. If my legs aren't too sore from today's workout, I'll go for an interval session on Wednesday.

    Be safe everyone!

    Good morning all,

WtnMel, I'm only bald on the top and still have hair at the sides and at the back. I started losing my hair when I was about 35, but resisted the Bobby Charlton look!

You can't believe a word Michael Gove says.

That's good news that your nesting box has a regular visitor. I used to have a bird table in the garden, but unfortunately it gradually rotted away. My sisters late husband made it. He was a genius with wood and seemed to be able to make anything, including furniture.

Good that Margaret is working out on the treadmill, we have to keep up our fitness whilst indoors.

You are lucky that your ipod still works. Mine "packed up" a few months ago and they are no longer available. I've got most of my CD's on my laptop on i tunes. I used to sync my ipod on shuffle. I've got used to running with out music now, although it would be helpful running solo now.

A good idea making lists of things to do. I'm doing that with my shopping lists. When I think of something, I add it, so that when I go to the supermarket, I don't have to do any last minute thinking, possibly forgetting something.

That message on strava is very clever. Some of our runs accidentally produce some rather rude pictures.

Aquarius, I also have trouble remembering what day it is. Luckily I use a calendar and diary to remind me when to put the rubbish out, when the glass collection is due, what days the milk is delivered etc.

I think it is a shame that your children are treating you as vulnerable adults. In my opinion, we should value our independence whilst we are still able. I actually included a couple of items in this mornings shop for Sarah H and Karen. Sarah's just been round to collect her eggs which I left on my doormat, and then we chatted through the window with her standing outside.

That must have been a shock seeing your neighbour with a bald head.

The admins on the local facebook pages are very good at closing threads that start getting argumentative or abusive. There is no limit to how far you walk, run or cycle, as long as it is from home. It's driving to somewhere to start the activity that is unlawful.

A shame the way the birthday cake for your son turned out, but as you say it's the thought that counts.

Hope your knee soon gets better, so that you can run again.

Molly, It will probably be a weight off your mind knowing that Brian has an appointment with the Doctor that you trust.

It must be impossible to believe a word that Trump says. I think he makes it up as he goes along. A bit like Johnson.

Sarah has just tapped on my window again to collect a box of eggs that I got for her in this mornings shopping. Karen will be round this afternoon to pick up some crumpets I got for her. I'm still useful at 74, and don't believe that all over 70's should stay indoors.

I just did a short run yesterday and didn't see anyone that I knew.

We actually had a page on facebook where we had to insert a word in front of day. My contribution was "Doris Day." I don't suppose any of the younger contributors had even heard of her.

It's surprising how quickly one can lose the ability for a particular skill if not used for a while.

Good luck with today's interval session.

I haven't much to report today except that I went shopping in the OAP hour this morning. They are very well organised now, even wiping the handles of the trolleys before passing them over to us. It's good to feel useful as I mentioned above, as I was able to get something for Sarah and Karen. Karen will be round later, so that will be another chat through the window. We've all been saying how much we miss our little meet ups for tea and cakes, or for meals.

I've been trying to get on top of all the shredding that needs doing, some of the paperwork going back many years.

I'll be outside the front door tomorrow night again at 8pm clapping the NHS and care workers, and hoping more will come out this time.

Take care everyone and stay safe.

    Evening all,

Aquarius - years ago now I 'wrote' my name while running in Cirencester Park. Like me, I'd imagine the guy that wrote the club name had to plan it beforehand and keep concentrating as he ran to get a good result. No call-out fee was charged to Margaret re the freezer as she repays me by providing delicious meals every day. For the first time I was sat watching tv at breakfast time and had to think hard about what day it was (thinking it was Tue). Up to now I'd been managing to keep track without any problem. As you said, when all the 'normal' appointments/visits etc. are not happening, the days become unstructured and its easy to lose track. We're missing seeing friends (which is why it was so good to chat on Skype last week to my mate Alan). We don't feel (or are being treated as) vulnerable in any way - but Margaret is taking advantage of the 'oldies' hour at Tesco on Mon, Wed & Fri mornings. I had to laugh at you mistaking your neighbour (now, bald neighbour) for a stranger. I'm still using Facebook but thankfully haven't been drawn into any 'discussions' (ie. shouting matches). It was good of you to try and make a cake for your son, but a shame the lack of ingredients stymied your efforts. And btw - none of what you write is tedious rubbish - consider your wrist slapped.

Molly - good to be cautious about Brian having a face-to-face appointment with the doctor. I'm not sure any of Trump's supporters are capable of mental gymnastics? Have you ever seen the film "Idiocracy"? I found it quite funny and although its a bit OTT and played for laughs where a WWE wrestler is president, it's not that many steps from reality. I haven't seen any movement in the nest box for a day or two (or maybe I'm just not looking at the right time?). The squirrel that comes into our garden appears to ignore the birds - but it does steal the peanuts we put out in the bird feeder. My treadmill run was equally 'interesting' yesterday. I did a 40 min 'rolling hills' run and set the treadmill to 5mph. By the time the incline had increased to 8% I was struggling to keep up with the pace. Once the treadmill was on the 'down' section of the programme I slowed it for a couple of minutes breather and walked before going back up to 5mph for the rest of the programme.

HS - ah, the old 'Bobby Charlton' hairstyle, beloved by the 'Baldy Man' character on tv a few years ago. I've also resisted the idea of doing any sort of comb-over and now go for a #4 cut (approx. 1/4" long?) as I think it looks much neater. My friend Alan is still wedded to a longer hair style but he's not losing his as much as I have. My ipod is one of what they call the 'classic' style and holds 120Gb. It is getting old so goodness knows how long it will keep going. Having found my headphones I was able to use it on my treadmill run yesterday. After I 'wrote' my name in the park many years ago a work colleague did ask me to draw something rude and I duly obliged :)

I've not got out into the garden yet to cut the lawns or anything. This morning I dusted and vacuumed the house and this afternoon I took Margaret's battery out of her car and charged it up (she was worried it might be getting low on charge with just short journeys). It took me almost as long to set the clock again and set up the presets on the radio as it did to re-fit the battery afterwards. Yesterday, after my run I didn't have the energy to do anything other than sort through various files and make a pile of papers for shredding.

Re Aquarius's mention of her bald neighbour - my friend Ruth (actually Dr. Ruth as she's a renal specialist) was joking today about maybe she should shave her hair off to make it easier to wear her PPE equipment. She asked if there was an app that could make you look bald. I found one, downloded one of her photos on FB and showed her the results to give her a laugh.

One of the ladies in my running club posted some more selfies (there is still the current challenge of taking selfies next to 'Penfold' postboxes). She was bemoaning the fact with not being able to get to the hairdressers, we're all getting to see her 'real' hair colour as her grey roots are beginning to show through even more.

I'm planning to get on the treadmill at 9:30am tomorrow morning for the 'virtual' pub2pub club run.

Take care everyone and stay safe ..

Just reporting back that I did the #notpub2pub virtual club run on my treadmill this morning. Managed 5mls in 51:32 (10:18mm pace) and was helped by having my ipod & headphones and playing my 'drivetime' playlist so was able to run with help from Joe Cocker, Hendrix, Santana, The Who and Yes amongst others ..

    Evening all,

WtnMel, I remember the classic ipod, mine was the shuffle which clipped to my shorts.

I've never risked removing a car battery because of the problems resetting everything afterwards.I'm also ploughing through lots of shredding, it's never ending.

I used to colour my mums hair whilst I was caring for her. She had a mobile hairdresser cut her hair. I don't know what I would have done if she was still alive in the current crisis.

That was a good pace on your treadmill, and a good selection on your playlist.

I was looking out of my bedroom window this morning and saw a black cat drinking water out of a bucket on my patio. I thought I would take a photo, but it must have sensed me looking and turned away. As it ran, it poked its tongue out at me and I managed to photo it. I put it on the clubs facebook page where it got plenty of likes and comments. One comment was "it was saying I can go where I want, and you can't."

Yesterday I was attempting to print 2 pages and it wouldn't print. I tried several times without success, so in desperation, I switched off the printer and back on again. Guess what, it started printing and kept printing until it had run off about half a dozen copies!

I ran 6 miles in the forest this morning, my first forest run for some time, and I really enjoyed it.

HS - not a problem resetting everything exactly - just a hassle (especially as it's Margaret's car so I had to read the manual to find out what to do as it wasn't obvious). I think it's the fact I'm running on a treadmill that has meant I'm managing a faster pace than I usually manage on the pavements. I saw Margaret putting something on our bird feeder pole this morning - turned out to be something usually used to help extract cakes from tins which she's hoping will make the pole too slippery for the squirrel to use it. I'm hoping when the squirrel does visit I'll be able to capture some film of it sliding down the pole! :) Sounds like the printer memory had keep details of the 'several' print requests you did?

Have to admit I've not done a lot else today after this morning's run other than process some bills that arrived, set up our recorder for next week and phone my sister for a chat. The new 'normal'? :)

    Good afternoon all,

Molly: I hope Brian’s appointment next week with your doctor will put your minds at rest, and that no further medication or action will be necessary. Despite the obvious concerns of a face to face consultation you really need to see someone in person because it would be very difficult to make a meaningful diagnosis over the phone, or even by video, as an ECG may be required, or at the very least the doctor will need to listen to Brian’s heart.
We don’t have any bird boxes in our garden, but we do have bird feeders attached to the fences and we also put out seed cakes plus other bird food to attract birds into the garden. We don’t get a huge variety of visitors, mostly blackbirds, crows, thrushes, blue tits and the occasional robin, but they are all welcome. Our next door neighbour (not the bald one) has three cats who mistake our garden for a cat toilet, so they get chased away whenever we see them, and thankfully they haven’t as yet attacked any birds. At our previous house a number of neighbours had cats and we often found bits of dead birds scattered around our garden, which wasn’t very pleasant. (That sounds like a particularly athletic dog you had, a pity his jumping ability couldn’t be put to better use).
I like that idea of only having three days - yesterday, today and tomorrow. I have been mulling that over, and I think that is a good way to look at this seemingly endless procession of days of enforced semi solitude. Forget about how things were, don’t worry what the future will bring, just live each day at a time. A very good philosophy, I hope it will be possible to live by it.
Thank you (and WtnMel) for your kind words about my forum meanderings.
As regards my knee injury I’ve actually been able to book a telephone consultation with my physio for tomorrow morning. This will be something new for us both, the practice is just getting their webpage updated with details of this new service and I think I’ll probably be one of their first customers. I’m quite intrigued as to how it will work as she’ll obviously not be able to feel around my knee to help her diagnose the problem, I suppose the onus will be on me to describe my symptoms accurately.
I’m sorry to hear your treadmill session was more punishing than you expected. I have to admit, now I think about it, when I did a similar session on my treadmill years ago I believe I cut it short after a while and ended up inputting hill inclines manually at a more manageable pace and incline.

HS: You’ll have to get yourself another birdtable, once you start getting regular visitors to it I’m sure you’ll find it very rewarding, and quite a pleasant distraction from the current situation.
It’s a pity your iPod packed up, I haven’t used my iPod for ages so for all I know mine isn’t in full working order either. I used to listen to music when I first started doing long runs, but like you I haven’t used it for some time.
Speaking of forgetting things while at the supermarket, when my son got our shopping in a few days ago he also got shopping for a neighbour, as well as his own shopping. He got to the checkout then realised he’d forgotten something essential from his own list and had to backtrack to get it, much to the annoyance and tutting of several customers. I don’t think he’ll be making that mistake again!
We also have a calendar to help us remember appointments, birthdays, recycling days etc. I’d be lost without it. We use the calendars on our iPhones too. We still manage to forget things sometimes though.

WtnMel: We saw Idiocracy a few years ago and thought it was hilarious. Some of it was almost believable. Part of you laughs at how ridiculously far fetched it is, but part of you feels uncomfortable at how easily society could dumb down to something not too dissimilar.
You’ve had a good couple of days on your treadmill, hills yesterday, and today’s session was particularly impressive with 10.18 minute miling. Well done. You were obviously energised by that great selection on your playlist. As I’ve mentioned above its some time since I used my iPod when running, but when I did I favoured Foo Fighters, Green Day, Killers, Kasabian, Queen, Stones, mainly. I also had a selection of 60s music - remember Tommy James and the Shondells (Mony Mony), Sam the Sham and the Pharohs ((Wooly Bully) Ike and Tina Turner (River Deep Mountain High) The Animals (We gotta get out of this place) The Lovin Spoonful (Summer in the City) etc etc.   Happy days.
(Why am I not surprised to hear you “drew” something rude on Strava some years ago?) ;)

Another walk for us today, very windy but nice to get out. I’m very envious of everyone’s running. I hope I’ll be able to join you again soon.

    Good Afternoon Everyone,

I hope your weather is offering something nicer than our freezing, unending sheets of icy sleet. Ugh!

HS, We are following the UK clapping example. It was announced in our newspaper that tomorrow night, at 7 pm, we are supposed to go outside and clap for everyone who is on the front lines of the virus.  My husband and I will clap. I can only hope that other people will, as well.

I am so glad to hear that you were able to run in the magic forest once again. I know that that isn't the proper name for the forest, but it is how I think of it. Did you see any ponies?

I would be interested to see your picture of the saucy cat sticking its tongue out

WtnMel, Great job on today's treadmill run!  10:18 is an excellent pace!

We saw Idiocracy a number of years ago, and I can't tell you how often it has come to my mind over the last couple of years.  Part of it is due to the abysmal education process in our country.  The majority of our country has no idea how our government works, what our constitution entails, and cannot read above an 8th grade level.  These statements are actually born out in studies. And, I believe that they are among the main reasons why so many people believe in Trump, or random facebook conspiracy theories.  I am pretty sure that it would be easy to get a number of people in the US to water their gardens with Rawndo simply by starting a facebook post attributed to some 'expert'.

Oh my gosh, were your calves burning at an 8% incline?  My calves and my hamstrings really took a beating from that the treadmill hill run. I was so sore that night that Brian had to put the dogs out for me.  Something that he is loathe to do, as they don't always listen to him.  I am going to keep trying to work with the automated hill runs, but in small doses interspersed with easy flat stretches.

I'm not much for makeup or hair dye, simply because I don't have the patience. But, for my friends, who are much more diligent about keeping up their appearances, this is proving to be a very trying time.  I'm pretty sure that some of them might privately consider exposure to the virus a worthwhile risk, if it allowed them a trip to the hairdresser.  It seems that hats are making a comeback.

Aquarius, I've been thinking that in someways our life now is not too much different from when we lived in very rural Maine. Especially during the long winters.  Except that in Maine, the internet was often down for long stretches of time.  But, both my husband and I worked from home, and, except for our son going to school, it wasn't unusual to go a week without seeing anyone outside of our family.  It's a much more relaxed way of going through the day.

I am so glad that you have booked a consult with a physio.  It seems like your knee tweak has been hanging on for a while now, and it must be taking a toll on your spirits.  I am looking forward to hearing how the appointment goes.

Damien Nagle, I hope you are well ?!

Yesterday was a light 30 min crosstraining session on the bike.  I wanted to give my legs a chance to recover from the treadmill's preprogrammed torture session on Tuesday.  Happily, I felt fully recovered today, and had a very good 4 mile interval session that increased in difficulty from the last interval session.  Tomorrow is a rest day, and I expect that my legs will be tired.

Hang in there everyone. We're almost another week down.

    Hello Folks.
I hope you are all well.
The company I work for have just launched a Strava group, out of the 1200 or so employees only 51 have joined it.
I am going on a 10k run soon so catch you all later.

    Good morning everyone

Molly: Unfortunately I think the vision of the future portrayed in Idiocracy applies to a lot of the Western World, not just the US. Why bother applying yourself to schoolwork when you can pay others to write essays etc for you, and degrees can be bought online. In fact why bother learning anything when you just need to type your question into a search engine and get an instant answer. We’re losing the ability to question and think for ourselves, whereas computers are becoming more powerful by the day.
I’m sorry to hear your calves and hamstrings were so sore after that treadmill session (been there, done that :) ) but fortunately it sounds like you’ve recovered well and managed a challenging interval session. I hope your legs aren’t too tired today, enjoy your rest day.
I don’t bother with make up either, although I do get some highlights in my hair every three or four months, and have done for as long as I can remember. I was due to get them done, along with a trim, just as the restrictions came in, so unfortunately I missed out. My hair in quite fine and straight, with a fringe (although it recently made the acquaintance of my nail scissors, so maybe can no longer strictly be called a fringe). I’m not too worried about how long and straggly it gets, but I do need to keep trimming my fringe. We ordered some hair clippers for Steve but they are in high demand so the delivery date we’ve been given is 10th May. I hope he can hold out until then, otherwise the nail scissors will have to be pressed into service again.
I haven’t heard of Rawndo, but from your post I’m guessing it is some sort of substance toxic to grass?

Weather here today (North East England) is cold but dry following an overnight frost. I hope the physio rings me soon as I’d like to get out for our walk before the rain which is forecast for this afternoon arrives.

Hi Damien: I don’t use Strava, although I think I may have registered on it some time ago. Where you one of the 51 from your company who have signed up ? Enjoy your 10k this morning.

I’ve heard from Sainsburys that in a couple of days we will get access to a delivery slot, although I expect the date will be quite a way into the future. Also heard today of a 93 year old lady with a heart condition who has had her hospital appointment cancelled, so I’m not holding our much hope for Steve’s scheduled check up with the cardiac unit in a couple of weeks. No doubt that will be cancelled too as the staff will doubtless have been moved to front line duties.

    Good morning all,

I'm posting on my phone, so hope I don't miss anything as there are a lot of posts since mine yesterday.

WtnMel, I  was wondering whether running on a treadmill was quicker than on roads.

Hope you are able to photograph the squirrel. You are right about the printer storing my efforts in the memory.!

Aquarius,  there are quite a few cats in my Street and possibly from further afield. They do tend to use my front and back gardens as toilets.

Hope the telecom with the physio today will be helpful.

I do get quite a few birds in my back garden on the lawn and in the bushes and surrounding trees. My estate was forest once, and we are surrounded by trees, many hundreds of years old.

I remember those bands, songs that you mentioned, a good selection. I'm afraid mine were mainly heavy metal which were great for long forest solo runs.

Molly, I'm ashamed to say that I was the only one in my street that went outdoors to clap. The Cruise Ships anchored in Southampton Docks sounded their horns. Hope there was more support among your neighbours!

The New Forest is magical and I'm glad to be running in it again. I didn't see any ponies. I will post the photo of the cat at the end of my posts.

I'm glad that your interval session went well yesterday.

Damien, that's a great idea, your Company starting a Strava group. Hope you enjoy your 10k run today.

Aquarius again, we will be interested to hear how you got on with the physio telecom.

Good to hear that you have got a delivery slow from Sainsbury's, albeit probably not for a few days.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Steve's scheduled check up with the cardiac unit isn't cancelled, but unfortunately, it probably will.

I've been shopping this morning in the 7.30 to 8.30 OAP's slot, and got 3 bags full, including essentials like beer and wine. I didn't get 3 bags of wool as per 'Baa Baa Black Sheep  rhyme!

I'm going to attach the photo of the cat now.

    Afternoon all,

Aquarius - me lobbing stones in the direction of visiting cats appears to have done the trick .. they are infrequent visitors these days. We do often see a robin in the garden and were lucky enough to get some long-tailed tits last year .. occasionally a wren too but as they're so small we may have missed seeing it hiding away. Glad to hear you've booked a telephone consultation with a physio - maybe a video consultation might work too as the physio could perhaps demonstrate on camera the exercises to do? As I've mentioned before - I don't mind listening to music on the treadmill but still wouldn't use it while running outside. I wouldn't be able to manage without all my reminders in my Outlook calendar which I can access from my laptop and my phone as they both sync and access the same info. With my diary and the shared calendar we have attached to the front of the fridge so Margaret and I can remind each other what we're up to, I think I've got everything covered! Re Idiocracy - yes, my feelings exactly. I remember all those 'old' tracks you mentioned. Yes .. the chance to draw something rude and I stepped up to the plate - fairly predictable I guess :) Margaret had a go at thinning her hair with the hairdressing scissors she bought online and has made a good job of it .. she just needs me to attend to the back and shorten it a bit.

Molly - yes, I was really pleased to achieve that pace .. hope I can manage something like that when I'm running outside again. My calves weren't burning at 8% incline but it was only for a couple of minutes before the descent phase of the run started. Some of my female friends in the running club have taken to wearing a buff on their heads just lately (until they are allowed to get to the hairdresser's anyway).

HS - I'm pretty sure running on the treadmill is naturally easier and you have to put it at a 2% incline at least to simulate running on the flat outside? Glad to hear you consider beer & wine essential :)

Postscript to setting up our recorder:
It often notifies me of new channels and I usually ignore it. Yesterday I decided I wouldn't because I wanted to record Austin Powers from Sony Movies Classic (channel 50) and we didn't have that one showing in the programme guide. It didn't find channel 50 as it turns out it's restricted to some areas of the UK - unfortunately, in the process of re-tuning I lost all the recordings I had scheduled so had to re-programme the whole lot again (shakes fist at technology!).

Still no sign of the blue tits in my nest box. Or a sliding squirrel on the bird feeder pole :)

Can't remember if I mentioned it but I started a coronavirus journal where I've been jotting down what I've been getting up to each day during the lockdown - just some random wittering but I thought it might prove interesting reading back in future when things have returned to normal and we've forgotten what it was like being stuck at home for weeks.

I haven't done anything of note today. Margaret and I had a Skype call with my friend Alan and his partner Diana at 11am this morning during which they sang to me and we all drank prosecco ..

    Good Evening Everyone,

Damien Nagle, I think that getting 51 people out your company to join a strava group is quite good. Over here, once people are working and having families any sort of running tends to go by the wayside for the vast majority of people.

Aquarius, How did it go with the physio? Did they ever ring, and were they able to diagnose your injury?

My hair is definitely getting quite shaggy. I may be pulling out the nail scissors myself very soon.  It's beginning to get in my eyes.

I've been doing tai chi type exercises in the morning to get moving before the day starts. It's not quite like yoga, but it made me think of you.

HS, Thank you for posting the picture of the saucy cat. It gave my husband and me a nice chuckle. It really does seem to be sticking its tongue out at you

Unfortunately, we were the only ones who went outside to clap in our neighborhood, yesterday evening.  I am going to hope that it was just a matter of people not hearing about it.

Did you have another 5k challenge this morning? I was wondering if your time improved, as you have become more used to running the challenge alone.

WtnMel, Happy Birthday!  How fun. We had a zoom surprise birthday sing along for a friend last night.  It looks like Margaret baked you a really yummy cake!

We had a beautiful blue jay resting on our squirrel tree this morning.  He stayed long enough that I was able to get a couple of super fast sketches, which was a lot of fun.  We may have to find a way to talk the squirrels into sharing their tree.

I sat on the bike for a cross training session this morning, and am planning on a 6 mile run tomorrow.

I hope everyone is well and not going too stir crazy!

    Good afternoon everyone,

WtnMel,  sorry I seem to have overlooked your birthday, so please accept a belated happy birthday 🥳

I've only got freeview, so it's about time I got a "smart TV" I'm waiting until things get back to normal, and will then visit the computer shop that I have a maintenance contract for my laptop with. They always get me a good deal for a new laptop, taking the old one in part exchange, and will get me a smart TV and set it up for me.

I'm keeping a diary which is probably similar to your journal.

That birthday cake looks really tasty 🎂

Molly, glad you liked the photo of the cat, it must be very unusual for cats to poke their tongues out. I took some photos during this morning's run, and I will post a couple on here. I will do another post  for the others, as I don't think the thread would take too many all at once.

It's a shame that you and your husband were the only ones clapping, but perhaps they will follow your example if we do it again next week.

Yes I did the 5k run and was about a minute quicker than last week. I felt really "in the groove," and gave it max effort. My average pace was 9.03 minute miling, so "I'm made up," as they say in Liverpool!

I didn't know that sketching was one of your talents. I'm hopeless at drawing, painting etc and art was my worse subject at school.

Hope you got out for your 6 miles today?

Today is lovely and sunny and I ran 7 miles, road, forest, road. I'll attach a couple of photos now. The text,if shown,  may be against the wrong picture, so ignore.

The photo's are more or less self explanatory.  Two of the deserted village, the empty roads, New Forest ponies and the Solent Water, which often  floods over the road. Southampton has 4 tides a day. A fact I proudly remember from a geography lesson at school, back in the stone age 🤣

    Afternoon all,

Molly - the cake was indeed very yummy. We could have eaten the whole cake but erred on the side of caution and have put the remainder in the freezer. Well done re your x-training and 6ml treadmill session. I didn't know you sketched - I tried an art class a number of years ago which sort of confirmed I'm not very good. The nearest I've got to an art class lately was sitting for one a couple of months ago.

HS - I wouldn't expect you to have known it was my birthday (I didn't pre-broadcast it) so no apologies needed. My tv is a dumb one and at least 10 years old. But I have a Panasonic blu-ray recorder which has a network connection so all the 'smart' functionality (Netflix, BBC IPlayer, ITV hub etc.) comes to the tv from that. Lovely photos of the countryside and water. As for the others .. and to quote a well-known pop combo ;) .. "this town, looking like a ghost town".

I ran 4mls on my treadmill this morning. I tried upping the pace as I ran but had to drop the pace at the end (5.5, 6, 6.5, 5 then 5.5 mph) but was pleased overall with my run (mile splits were 11.09 10.00 09.14 10.58 so happy to do a sub-10 mile).

I've been out in the garden this afternoon cutting the edges. of the lawns.

I've also been cutting (drum roll ..) Margaret's hair!! Happy enough trimming some length off at the back but slightly scary doing the layers .. but Margaret has pronounced herself pleased with the results so looks like I have a part-time job until the lockdown finishes and businesses re-open.

Time for me to go and start cooking our Sunday roast - stay safe everyone and 'chat' again in a day or two ..

    Good afternoon all,

WtnMel: well, you kept that quiet. Happy Birthday! I hope your cake tasted as nice as it looked.
It’s been a good day for gardening today, Steve has been out doing the lawns and a bit of general tidying up.
Reading about you cutting Margaret’s layers suddenly brought a memory to mind, one I’d completely forgotten about. You’ll remember I said I couldn’t cut in a straight line, well when I was a teenager a friend of mine had shoulder length thickish hair. One day, when I was at her house, she decided she wanted her hair cut like Rod Stewart's, and she wanted me to cut it for her! I tried to get out of it but she was determined and had great faith in me. I took a deep breath and dived in with the scissors. I had no idea how to start so I just hacked bits off at random. Amazingly it actually turned out surprisingly well, so much so she insisted we go out there and then to the local fun fair, where our friends usually were to be found. We soon found them and compliments flowed regarding the new hair style, one girl even asking if I would do hers too. I managed to change the subject so got out of that quite neatly, but that night when I went home I was so taken with the revelation of what an amazing hairdresser I was I decided to cut my own a la Rod Stewart. After the first cut (near the roots and quite noticeable) I suddenly lost my nerve and decided I’d better finish the job in the morning. When the morning came my nerve was still AWOL and I was appalled at this tuft sticking out from my head. I had to part my hair on the other side to cover it up. I never finished the job and have never tried to cut hair since.
Well done on your treadmill session this morning, it's always nice to do a sub 10 mile.

HS: 9.03 average miling for your 5k run yesterday is fantastic! Well done, I’m not surprised you were “made up” with that, particularly as it was a solo run and therefore harder to motivate yourself to keep to a fast pace.
I really like your photos (are they taken on your phone?) but how odd the streets look, such a lovely sunny Sunday yet no-one is out and about. I suppose that’s a good thing though, as it appears a lot of selfish people are still ignoring the social distancing restrictions and are congregating in parks and on beaches. The coverage of this on today’s TV news was quite depressing - why can’t these people understand the message?  It’s rather worrying that the government is now considering a ban on all outdoor exercising, and all because some selfish stupid people won’t consider the cost of their actions. I wonder whether the Queen’s broadcast this evening will make any difference to these peoples attitudes, probably not I imagine.
We have a smart TV, but we don’t know how to use the smart features on it, it’s something we keep meaning to master, but somehow never do.

Molly: yes, my physio did get in touch with me (see below).
I haven’t tried Tai Chi yet, although I’ve often thought about it. It seems to be a very popular and relaxing exercise system/philosophy, but like many of these “gentle” forms of exercise I expect it’s probably more demanding than it looks.
Well I see Trump has put his foot in it yet again. Face mask? You wouldn’t catch me wearing one. You have to feel for his advisors and officials, they must dread him opening his mouth. It would be funny if it wasn’t so potentially serious as I imagine a lot of his supporters will follow his example.
How nice to have a blue jay visit your garden, are they common visitors or fairly rare? (I don’t suppose you’d like to share your sketches with us? I’m sure we’d all love to see them, but totally understand if you’d rather not.)
Well done on your cross training on the bike today, will you be able to take your run outside tomorrow or is the weather still against you?

My physio Facetimed me on Friday (after I’d sent photos of my knee marked up to show where the pain was). She’s fairly happy that it isn’t meniscus related (which was a great relief) and thinks instead it is a soft tissue issue, probably some sticking going on at the point of insertion at the knee. I’ve to scrape it (there is a proper term for this but I can never remember it) then ice it. I’ve also some exercises and self massage to do, but she’s happy for me to continue with my other exercises and yoga and also to see how a run goes, so I think I’ll get out tomorrow morning (before we’re all banned from leaving our houses :p ) to try a short easy run.

    Morning all,

Aquarius - I only intend to cut Margaret's hair again if it involves removing small amounts at a time (don't trust myself to do anything more). Margaret had cut her layers at the sides herself before I was let loose - so I was only having to do the back where Margaret couldn't see to do it properly. I don't imagine the Queen's message will make much difference (I ignored it myself for instance). Re the smart tv - RTFM ;) Glad to see your physio Facetime'd you so she could see what was going on with your knee - people are having to find new ways to do things aren't they?

I saw one of my clubmates run past the end of our drive this morning - while I was sat having my breakfast! :)

Today I haaaave mostly been (and will be) - washing cars. Margaret's was covered in sap from the tree above the parking space beside the garage. Mine is still covered in bird s**t from where it was parked while I was on my walking holiday so that's next on the agenda.

    Good afternoon everyone,

WtnMel, I'm intrigued with your sitting for an art class. Was it a nude pose?

My TV must be 9 or 10 years old, so it must be a matter of time before it packs up.

Glad you liked the photo's. Ghost Town was by "The Specials"

Well done for your 4 mile treadmill session, and for edging your lawn. Our club has issued a 5k challenge to be  undertaken in our gardens. A few have done it, but I have no intention of partaking. I'd get dizzy and bored senseless.

There is no end to your talents, turning your hand now to hairdressing🤣

Hope the Sunday roast was a success!

A neighbour of mine, across the road parks his and his wife's car under an oak tree which overhangs his drive. He is out there nearly every day cleaning the bird sxxt of the cars. He has just got a "20 registration," so is extra particular about keeping it in pristine condition.

I've got an overflow pipe which is leaking water, but thankfully only at night which is strange. I've put a bucket out to catch the water and each morning it is full to the brim. I'm going to check my home insurance to see if it is covered, but I don't think plumbers are permitted to work at the moment?

Aquarius, I'm very impressed with your hairdressing achievement with your friend. A Rod Stewart style must have been very tricky, because I'm sure that back in those days his hair was back combed. That was quite popular back in the day. I seem to remember the Ryan Twins, sons of Marion Ryan (remember her?) having back combed barnets.

Thanks for your comments on my 5k time, I was very pleased.

Glad you liked my photos. they were taken on my phone which is a Galaxy S8. It is very eerie, the village being so deserted. The only sign of life is when the supermarkets open and everyone starts queuing with their trolleys in front of them to keep the 6 metre gap.

It is a worry that outdoor exercise may be forbidden if the ignorant few ignore the directive to stay indoors, except for the 4 reasons which the Government keeps repeating.  A friend of mine received his letter from Boris this morning. I still haven't received mine.

Trump really is dangerous and should be self isolated permanently. He changes his mind from one day to the next, and you can't really believe a word he says. He ignores the advice of his Advisers, thinking he knows better. I'm not a fan of our PM, but to give him his due, he does listen and acts on their advice, especially the medical specialists.

It's good to know that your physio doesn't think that your knee problem is meniscus related, because as you know, that was my injury back in June 2017, and took at least  a year before I could do much more than hobble. I'm still doing the exercises my physio gave me every day. It was that and twice a week spinning that helped me to slowly get back into  "proper running" again. I can't spin now because the Leisure Centre is closed until further notice.

I ran 7 miles this morning, road, forest, road and am delighted that my pace is coming back at last. I think it is the 5k challenges that have woken up my fast twitch fibres, which have been in hibernation for so long. My pace got quicker mile on mile from 4 miles onward. mile 7 being 9.07 minute miling.

Hello again (you can tell I'm busy today :) - but we do have nice clean cars now),

HS - no, not a nude pose although as a naturist, I'd have been willing. But I checked beforehand with the teacher and she just needed someone to sit clothed. I keep thinking our tv may eventually need replacing - but it's a Sony Bravia which had a good name for reliability, so fingers crossed. Yes, it was The Specials sang "Ghost Town". Our back garden is 25 yds deep and 10yds wide but even so, I wouldn't consider running up and down it. I suggested tongue-in-cheek to Margaret that if I could run up and down the back garden, down the side of the house, down the front drive and back up it .. then through the front door, down the hall, through the dining room and out of the conservatory door that might work instead :) The Sunday roast was a success (as it always is of course). My car is a "10" reg which explains why I'm less particular about keeping it pristine. You're not going to be drawing water overnight which could explain why the overflow is leaking by the time you get up. More than likely a worn out washer - or if it's a toilet cistern, the float may not be 100% okay and water is gradually building up over a period of time. But I don't know either if plumbers are allowed to call round to fix things. Yes, I remember Marion Ryan and the Ryan Twins (they sang "Eloise" if I'm not mistaken?). If they ban outside exercise I'll be even more grateful I didn't get rid of my treadmill! Well done re your 7ml run which you ran at a very good pace. I saw my clubmate Iris running past my house this morning - while I was sat having my breakfast :)

I've just installed Zoom on my laptop as it's our grand-daughter Georgia's birthday later this month. Margaret's DIL Sarah is going to schedule a videoconference for the extended family so we can have a virtual birthday party for her.

    Hi Everyone,
We've been without electric for the last 24 hours. It's on now, but I'm going to wait until tomorrow to post. I don't want to run out my battery in case it goes off again.

HS Great pics! Awesome 5k time.

Aquarius, great new on the knee. I hope the run went ok.

WtnMel, Great job on Margaret's hair, Sunday roast, and car washing. I wish I had your energy!

Hopefully, everything will be back to the new abnormal with electricity tomorrow. I won't have to cut my hair, I'm pulling it out!

Molly - sorry to hear you've been without electricity for 24 hours - hope it stayed on!

Did a 45 min 'rolling hills' treadmill run this morning @ 5mph - had to slow down and walk for a couple of minutes after the steepest part (6% incline) but otherwise all okay - though Margaret remarked I seemed to be a bit 'creaky' afterwards (she's probably right!).

Haven't done a lot else since but just about to head outside into the garden on the hunt for thistles, dandelions and other weeds lurking in our flower beds.

    Good afternoon everyone,

Molly: oh dear, what a nuisance losing your power for 24 hours must have been. Was this weather related? I hope you’ve had no further cuts since.

HS: It’s funny you asking WtnMel if he was posing nude for that art class - that was my first thought too!  :D
I hope you mange to get your overflow sorted out, but as you say perhaps plumbers are only attending emergency call outs at the moment. It’s hard to keep track of who is working and who isn’t.
We only backcombed the bit on the top of my friend’s hair, and yes I do remember the Ryan brothers but not Marion Ryan, although her name does ring a bell, I just can’t bring her to mind.
We haven’t received Boris’s letter yet either. I can’t see the point of it really, it’s not going to tell us anything we haven’t already been told, so the only thing it will achieve is to overload the postal system.
Fortunately it seems the government is backtracking on the suggestion of imposing a ban on outdoor exercise, which is a relief.
Yes, I’m very glad my knee problem is nothing to do with the meniscus. The area of discomfort did seem to point to that (at least to my layman’s eyes) which was concerning, so now at least I know I can still run and do whatever exercise I want without worrying about the consequences. I must stick to the physio’s advice though and not skip the rehab work she’s given me.
That’s another amazing run you put in yesterday, to be able to average 9.07 on mile 7 is something I could only dream of. Well done.

WtnMel:  I think it was just Barry Ryan who sang Eloise.
What is Zoom? Is it like a FaceTime multi user thing?
Steve gets very hot under the collar when he finds bird doo-dah on the car and immediately washes it off. We used to live at the coast, and seagulls are big birds.
Well done for persevering on your treadmill for 45 minutes of rolling hills today, I’m not surprised you were creaky after that.

I tried a short very slow run yesterday to test my knee, I went about 6.30 in the morning in the hopes of getting out and back before the Derwent Walk got too busy. Fortunately I only started coming across people with a mile to go, so most of my run was “people free” and I’m pleased to say my knee didn’t give me any problems. I hadn’t expected anything different to be honest because I’ve noticed before that my knee is ok when I run or walk, it’s when I try to kneel or squat right down that it feels tight and painful. I think it may be getting slightly better though so I’ll persevere with the regime my physio recommended and see how things go this week. Although this was my first run for about a fortnight I can’t say I particularly enjoyed it. Since we have had to observe the social distancing regulations I find my runs aren’t as enjoyable as before. I’m very conscious that around every bend I come to there may be someone walking, running or cycling towards me, so I’m on high alert to take avoiding action, which really takes the pleasure out of the run. I’m actually quite glad when I get back home. The pavements around here tend to be narrow, and often only last a short distance then are replaced with a grass verge, so it’s not that easy doing road running, which is why I use the Derwent Walk, which as I’ve previously mentioned is an old countryside railway branch line. It’s barely 2 metres from one side of the path to the other, so if I come across anyone on it we both have to go to opposite sides of the path, and sometimes into the grass/bushes/ditch alongside to ensure we maintain our 2 metre gap.
I spent most of yesterday on the necessary, but depressing, task of putting our paperwork in order and ringing our solicitors to ask about updating our wills. It’s a job I’ve been meaning to do for ages as none of us live for ever, and having been the executor for both my mother and my aunt I know what a difference it makes if things are as organised and clear cut as possible. The Coronavirus situation has just given me the necessary push to get on with it. I was surprised to find that we didn’t need to see the solicitor in person, instead he talked me through the couple of minor changes we needed to make to the wills, then emailed us the drafts to check. We’ve confirmed we’re happy with them so he is putting the originals in the post to us today, with instructions about getting them witnessed while adhering to the social distancing regulations. That should be interesting!
Today we actually ventured out in our car because we had a “click and collect” slot booked at B&Q, which was quite farcical as they couldn’t find our order when we arrived, which meant the B&Q person had to come and stand next to Steve to check the email order confirmation on his phone.  It was supposed to be arranged so that customers all received different time slots in which to arrive to pick up their goods, but somehow everyone arrived together and crowded around the entrance. I don’t think we’ll be bothering with that again. While we were out and about we decided to leave the car in the car park and go for a short walk. Just next to the B&Q store is another section of the Derwent Walk, so we walked along there for about a mile then retraced our steps back to the car. As it was such a nice sunny day there were a number of other people with the same idea, so again it was all dodging and weaving from side to side as we passed each other.
I may get up really early tomorrow and go for another run if I can motivate myself. Perhaps this time I’ll be more in the mood and enjoy it better.
Has anyone heard about the Strava challenge starting today, you exercise for 10 mins a day for 12 days. There’s quite a variety of activities you can do and if you complete the challenge and pay a minimum of £5 (which goes to the NHS) you get a virtual badge.  Details on Runners World. I thought I might give it a go to try to motivate myself and help the NHS at the same time.
The postie has just been (looking like something out of a sci fi film in his PPE gear), this must be Steve's hair clippers, I'm off to check.

    Afternoon all,

Aquarius - I'm obviously getting a reputation on here. Sure I can't persuade you to do the NESD if it goes ahead? :D Btw, Jax the organiser posted to say she's had three times the usual number of registrations she expects by this time of the year. I'm still waiting for Boris's letter (sniff) - tempted to return it to him telling him to spend the money on something useful like the NHS. Glad to hear the ban on outdoor exercise idea isn't likely to go ahead. I checked and Eloise was a solo song by Barry Ryan and turns out was written by his brother Paul. Zoom is a video-conferencing bit of software that seems to be easier to use than Skype and people don't have to create an account to join a (cough) 'meeting' - which at the moment can mean a family get-together, a discussion group or even a group of friends having a synchronised drinks party. Good to hear you were out early enough to miss the crowds - and that your knee didn't give you any problems. One of the 'jobs' we wrote down to do during the lockdown was for me to update my will and think about setting up a LPA (lifetime power of attorney) and a file with all the info anyone might need to make it easier to go through my papers (including online passwords etc.). Our posties are coming intermittently but I'd not noticed them wearing anything extra apart from latex gloves

Did an hour of rummaging in the undergrowth and removed all the dandelions and thistles I could spot. Will continue weeding the borders again tomorrow ..

    Afternoon all,

WtnMel, A member of our running club is a plumber and he said that he was still working. He came round to see what the problem was. He advised that the reason it only overflowed during the night was due to the water cooling down and after a time the pressure would cause the water level to rise until it overflowed. He said that the reason it came out in one big gush is that once water starts to flow, it sucks the rest out. The solution was to replace the ballcock. He had to drive to Winchester to get one, as they were not delivering parts at present. He also told me to occasionally turn the tap controlling the water into the property on and off, as it becomes very stiff with the build up of limescale. Another tip, in case of emergency, was to go outside to the water meter and turn it off there. He used a screwdriver to open the flap, and showed me the yellow plastic tap.  I can now sleep soundly, knowing that water is not going to flow through my ceiling.

I'd never heard of Zoom until a few days ago, but now it seems everyone is using it. Is it better than Skype which we used to use?

Well done for your rolling hills treadmill session this morning.

It's great weather for a spot of gardening.

Molly, bad news that your electricity went off for 24 hours before coming back on, but I hope that it has stayed on today.

Aquarius, your post popped in between the ones above as I was typing. I had inadvertently closed the page and when I reopened it, saw your post!

Great minds think alike regarding WtnMel posing in the nude for an art class😁

Thankfully I have had my overflow problem sorted out, see my post to WtnMel above for details.

Marion Ryan was popular in the era of Petula Clark and Alma Colgan. I can't remember any of her "hits!"

I'm glad to hear that your knee didn't seem to be giving you any problems. I've done a lot of running in the roads when I have seen pedestrians walking towards me. They have invariably thanked me, so it annoys me when ignorant people on facebook that can't spell or write a coherent sentence, say that running should be banned as the runners run straight at you breathing heavily👿

Very sensible updating your Wills. I made mine many years ago and happy to leave it as it is. I was also executor to my parents and had Power of Attorney too. I made arrangements a few years ago for my sister and daughter to have Lasting Power of Attorney for me.

That click and collect sounds like an absolute disaster. I don't blame you for deciding not to use it again. A good idea going for a short walk afterwards, making the most of the lovely weather. Hope you do manage a run tomorrow, and that your knee "behaves!"

I think  did see something about the 10 minute a day challenge.

My posties are still going round in their usual gear and shorts. Good luck with the hair clippers.

I didn't run today as I went shopping. The stores seem to be replenishing their stocks quite well now, even plenty of toilet rolls.

I'm looking forward to running tomorrow  and back in the forest.

HS: our postie also just had gloves until today, when he turned up wearing gloves, face mask and what looked like his cold/wet weather gear, which looked out of place and must have been uncomfortable as it’s been quite a sunny day today. He did complain to us a few days ago about not being issued with PPE, which he felt it was disgraceful as he was  a “front line” worker.
Glad to hear you got your overflow looked at, bit of luck knowing a plumber.
    Enjoy your run tomorrow.

WtnMel: an hour rummaging in the undergrowth sounds like good cross training to me.

    NESD? no.

    Hi Everyone,

Happily my electricity was back on yesterday morning. However, by then I was in the weeds with a work backlog.  I think I'm caught up now.

HS, Excellent job on your pace.  It really is encouraging to see hard work pay off.   And, just to reiterate. Your photos were lovely. Thank you for posting them.  It's funny. To you your village is home, but to me it is just different enough that it looks like a lovely postcard.

WtnMel, Great job on the 6% incline. That is a demanding workout.  Good for you

I managed to get outside to work in the yard on Monday. Yay! I got all of the raised beds cleaned out and almost ready for the seedlings that should be arriving in the next couple of weeks, plus the seeds I have started in the house. However, I'm not sure that the dogs understood what 'preparing the beds' meant. I'll try and post pictures. Our lawn has finally begun to turn green, which means it's time to thatch, as well. I am soooo happy.  However, we aren't at the stage of dandelion hunting, yet. When we get there, I suspect that I will be less happy.

Aquarius, Some poor soul seems to have over dipped into his liquor stores and made the poor decision to go for a joy ride. Unfortunately the joy ride ended with him crashing into a pole with all sort of wire and box thingies. And the pole ended up in the road. It was a mess.  As a result we lost our electricity.  Though it's unclear why we lost it for so long, or why the pole actually snapped-that's not supposed to happen.

I am really glad to hear that your knee injury doesn't involve the meniscus.  What a relief that it didn't bother you on your run.  I completely understand the frustration of trying to run outside and avoid people.  At this point, unless I fancy darting into the road, it's become almost impossible and I am sticking with the treadmill.  Of course, as the weather is finally improving, it's very frustrating to be running inside.

    How did the clippers workout?

I managed 5 easy miles on the treadmill, yesterday, and plan to sit on the bike this morning.  My legs are feeling a little tired from the yard work on Monday. So, tomorrow may be an easy run, as well.

I'm posting some pictures of my dog's understanding of the intent of Monday's yard work.

I hope everyone is staying mostly sane, somewhat happy, and only mildly stir crazy

    Good afternoon all,

Damien: How many times a week are you managing to run 10k? Well done for making the most of your time at home by keeping so active.
Molly: I meant to ask you yesterday whether Brian has seen the doctor yet. I know you mentioned he managed to get an appointment for this week but I can’t remember which day.
I got out early this morning (about 5.45) for a three mile run and only saw about half a dozen other people so felt a lot happier about that. As it was still a little too dark for offroad running I ran through our estate onto a road which normally has a lot of traffic but today was deserted. After three quarters of a mile (all downhill) I turned around and ran back uphill for a mile and a half, the first part steep and the second part gently inclining. I returned home along a slightly downhill route. I thought this undulating run would be a good test for my knee. Overall I think it was ok, I noticed a slight discomfort towards the end, but considering the steep sections in today’s run I’m fairly happy with the progress. Later this morning I had a bit of stiffness after sitting for a while but stretching has eased that.
Steve’s hair clippers are a bit of a disappointment. The model we ordered had four exchangeable heads, ranging from 3mm to 12mm. However the pack we received was missing the 12mm head and instead had two 6mm ones. As Steve had ordered it specifically for the 12mm length he wasn’t very pleased. Looks like we’ll have to resort to the scissors after all.  :/
