anyone booking hotels, worth a peek at airBnB... there are some really nice apartments available near the hotels and start at much less than the hotel prices
lets be honest.... its all prep for an Ironman on my 100th birthday
In Wales the pros and age groupers had loads to overtake on the second lap.....the problem with the time.every single ironman event team looks at the finish time differently. hence some sticking to cutoffs and others ignoring them
No the UK uses the same team and the cut offs are applied to every person regardless of it being a second over.
At least with a rolling start you get your 17 hours (or whatever). I've been at Bolton, the horn has gone and it has been 10-15 minutes before the last person has gone in. So if you were marginal you had already lost time you could have been swimming.
the finishing line must be a bit strange on rolling ones now....near the end they must handle them one at a time.check their times before deciding whether to issue a medal and tshirt or not....
Yep, as mentioned either earlier on on another thread, at Weymouth, people after a certain time were crossing the line and the announcer instead of shouting "you are an ironman" as they ran down the carpet, it was "are you an ironman? - Yes!!" or an awkward silence if they'd missed cut-off.
Equally awkward was someone finishing 5 minutes later being called an ironman
The rolling start is generally better I think for the marginal athletes and it does seem to break up the scrum for the first buoy but still pros and athlete entering at the end have the potential to be in the same place at the same time.
I did a 70.3 with a waved rolling start. I ran over the line with someone and their time was almost 50 minutes longer than mine due our respective wave start times.
I'm fairly sure when I crossed the line this year that the timing mat triggered the finish time on the clock ... it really isn't that difficult and for me at least made for a much more pleasant swim
Start lists out and seems popular with the Germans !
Been assured there will be an English briefing & instructions.
Getting real & exciting Think I'll focus on a super fast swim to get in the water early so have longer on course ! 15:15 focusses the mind & body in training
Hope everyone ticking over nicely it's 40 weeks on Sunday
Not that I am in a position to chose races yet but Hamburg is looking less likely on account of not getting back from Les Stables until the Wednesday before ..and then flying to Hamburg the next day

Yes that is exactly what happens. Your time appears once you've gone over the final timing mat under the gantry.

this also is why i dont like rolling starts...how can you race someone who starts 20 minutes after you...
just a big time trial not a race
The rolling start worked very well IMO ...
Slightly annoyed that I didn't get last in my age group because of some German that started ahead of me.
Actually that reminds me - sorry about being sh1t guys!
