To continue the theme, this is Archie (Welsh Sheepdog).  We're on a summit in the Brecon Beacons but I can't for the life of me work out which one.  Anyone recognise it from the cairn or the hills in the background?  I think we must have been lost at the time!!

T Rex, many thanks but I've managed to get a place off David J. And extremely grateful I am too! Hopeful of a sub 3:30 although being my first Snod probably a bit over optimistic. Good luck everyone!

T Rex how did you know I was withdrawing? A little birdie? I've not sold it yet - waiting for UDS to get back to me with a prospective buyer, but I can only wait so long.

    UDS?

Sorry I've not been in contact but what with serial compulsive racing, working, eating and sleeping, this forum kinda gets neglected. Reason for my withdrawal is that SNOD clashes with the Jedburgh Three Peaks Ultra, which I want to do because I'm going for a Runfurther series Grand Slam. If I manage it, it'll be my 4th. Saturday just gone was Race 8 of 12 - Long Tour of Bradwell. It's a really tough 34-miler in the Peak District. I was well chuffed to get my 2nd fastest time in 7 completions. It was my 45th race so far this year. Race 46 will be Sale Sizzler #4 this Thursday - a nice intense 5k as a 54th birthday present. :-)

It's nice to see everyone else enjoying their racing. Keep up the healthy pastime. Sorry I won't be joining you in Llanberis this year.

BN - sorry to hear you won't be there this year, but good luck with the Slam!

If UDS' buyer doesn't come through, please bear me in mind!!!

    Well that didn't work.

Hey BritNick, I was on the half tour of Bradwell on Saturday. Only 16 miles but that was tough enough, never mind the full tour. Was going well until cave dale where I got far too adventurous given the terrain and turned my ankle. Must have gone over on it a dozen times after but still managed to get round. Just over 3 hours which was good considering. Egg shaped outer ankle now so taking a couple of days off as a precaution.

InsideForward, you weren't the one at the finish icing your ankle and with plastic chair legs at danger of collapsing sideways on the slope, were you? It's unlikely given the time difference, but if so, nice to meet you and prevent further injury.

Got back from family holiday in Saundersfoot with a swollen Liver and a twisted ankle!
TR22- Started on the coastal path at the bottom of Saundersfoot hill then out to tenby, through town and back again for a 9.5 mile route. It was really muddy and slippery and was much tougher than i was expecting in terms of ascent and descent. Went past monkstone point!

Only managed to get out once :#:# due to Swollen Liver (too much wine/beer) and family commitments banning me! Lovely part of the world but i think i would have been better running the route through the tunnels to amroth and beyond.

    Reydon, t-rex- lovely dog pictures!

Twm - my running partner in the mornings! What running I've been doing this year has been relatively easy, particularly of late as I try and ease myself back having recently ditched the orthotics after being told that they had thrown my gait all over the place and I didn't need them! Hopefully it explains why I've felt I've not been running comfortably the last 18 months or so and why I was experiencing very uneven wear to the outside of my left trainers. Hopefully plenty of time till Snowdonia for my natural gait to return!?

JB- Cute dog picture no.3. Still doing maf stuff?

I'm probably following the maff approach by default I'd say. I have only done one relatively quick/hard run this year with a constant tempo/threshold h/r. I do let the h/r creep up on climbs although the average for hillier runs are generally below the maff h/r I'd set.

Beautiful doggie pictures guys! Sorry to hear you wont be joining us this year Nick but look forward to hearing about your alternative event. I'm I missing out on something? What is the Maff approach?                                     Im still wading through my washing from the 4 marathons done at the weekend in Kent. A familiar face popped up-Run Jono was there to support his wife-great to see you both. Two marathons next weekend including one of my fave LDWA events-Birmingham Canal Canter..lots of cake. JD, I spoke to someone at local running club re Snowdon entry, he is going ask about for you.

Yes, a little bird, BN.  What did you think of the SWales events?  Did you do the 50 or the 100?  The 100 is reckoned to be one of the toughest out there with lots of forest and pathless sections.

Yea it is a bit up and down Ralph. Good training though. It was fairly dry when I went. Maybe they've had a bit of rain down there. Didn't twist your ankle whilst running did you?

Anyone doing the 10k in Coed-y-brenin in a couple of weeks? Coming up for a bit of training in the area before the big one. I sneaked myself into the entry list. Think it's nearly full now.

TR I see the Snod Trail Ultra is nearly sold out. You going to give it a go? I think I will be limiting my 2018 Snowdonia racing to the main event in Oct.

Thanks Brer and BN. Training is picking up - just fat and slow- but mileage is starting to pick up. 15 yesterday, 12 tomorrow and 18 on Sunday are the main highlights of the week. All easy base building - just need an event now!
Last year I am going to bed early on NYE!!

The LG - no, I'm concentrating on the Pen Llyn ultra at that time of year in 2018, where I'm hearing talk of a new distance of a 100.  The SNOD ultra looks extreme!  Miles more bog in the Moel Hebog area and the huge climb to the top of the Vivian Quarry at the end.

T Rex I only did the SW50-going-on-56 and that took me best part of 19 hours. Shocking. The biggest problems came after the Brecon Beacons with navigation issues such as invisible "obvious" footpaths through rampant jungle. Much floundering did occur and many miles were added onto an already over-distance route. I'm keen to go back to make a better job of it with the benefit of prior knowledge. I should be able to knock hours off. I wouldn't dream of entering the 100 though.

    BN:

Ha!  Just as I thought!  Love your description!

The 100 starts in the evening a la Lakeland 100, so for most competitors 2 nights and one day. So more of the same, and possibly worse, only this time much of it in the pitch dark!

Despite being my local ultra and parts of it on routes I train on, unfortunately I can't do this June event - my busiest time of the year at work when I don't get the time either to race or train.

You don't seem to have had a very good experience over here in S Wales.  Do you remember the Valleys 100??

TR22- Yep, i did twist my ankle on the path, it wasn't on the muddy sections but on a grassy field near the campsite, it was a funny camber with holes in, it was only very minor though, fine now.

The best was running home on Monday, through a local park whilst daydreaming. Next thing i'm flying through the air...... just a bruised ego and some cuts, local kids were pISS*ing their pants! Tripped over a tree stump.

T Rex, BN - I have seen the trailers for Lakeland 50 and 100 looks like an immense event. I notice that one of the race organizers/ Co-ordinator is Marc Laithwaite (epic events). Nice chap who i remember from doing duathlons in the past.

T Rex, South Wales events have been 'eventful' but they can't have mentally scarred me too much because I want to go back to SW50.

Ralph, the Lakeland 100 and 50 are awesome. I've seen them grow from a shoestring affair with marginal support in the beginning to what it's become now. I'll be attempting to throw my hat in the ring again on 1st September after a hiatus this year.

Hi All.  Looking forward to seeing some of you again in the SNOD house.  Sorry you won't be there Nick.  Did my first ultra last month, Lakeland 50.  It was brutal, really boggy in parts but survived with no blisters!  Hoping the fitness obtained during months of training for LL50 will hold.  What are a few Welsh hills compared to the Lakes!!

Yay! I AM SNOD-LOADED and ready to go!
Got myself a place! Thanks Panad for the offer too - and sorry for the confusion.
No time target for me this year, T Rex: only to get around (once!)
