I think it starts near callington if I remember correctly - which is only a 15 min drive from plymouth, just go acoss the tamar bridge and your almost there. You dont have to drive down into the darkest depths of cornwall (thankfully).
The course then runs onto the moor up to the jamaica in and back amost in a loop - only repeating the last couple of miles. Or thats how I remember it from last year. Im sure shades will give us the full lowdown.
Road marathon starting from Pensilva Leisure Centre. No longer has a nearly 3 mile uphill start from Rilla Mill!!
There are a few hills though, and as jason said some stunning scenery. Of course the weather can be pretty tough on Bodmin Moor, but that's all part of it. Proper Cornish pastie to all finishers too.
I don't think I'm doing it Shades - I'm not in that kind of shape and having deferred from London this year, my focus will be on getting to the start line next year. But I agree, it's a great marathon through wonderful rugged countryside, and the pasty at the end is gud & proper!
Finally run a marathon and still on a high after running 'nice and flat' Cardiff, so yes count me in for this 'proper marathon'.
I have heard and read its a tough course. Is it ala Launceston half like or Indian Queens like, or is it a form of torture/ fun/ endurance/ test all of its own?
Hi OO, I've never sone Indian Queens and it's tougher than Launceston, also the weather in November can make a great difference. Any DNF's are usuaully because of not realising how cold it can be on Bodmin Moor.
Best of luck - your way quicker than me thats for sure.
last years winning time was 2:58:41 that was the only sub three time.
Personally Id like to get into the top ten and be the first unnatached runner (last year I was 14th I think) which means I would need to run a sub 3:15
but I got to get in a couple weeks of proper hard training for a realistic chance - at the moment I dont have it in me.

I'll be there again this year.

Fab race though
The second half is more rolling if you want to call it that?!
As shades said, its the cold that could be the problem for many.
You can count me in though as ive been trainning hard for this one.
Ill be there, the weather for it was actually quite decent last year.
Im kinda looking forward to it, i guess im interested to see how fast i can run it?!
but the wind - if a strong cold wind is blowing against you on the moor - then prepare for a real endurance test :-)
some might say this is all part of the races personality - personally I shall be hoping for a nice clear sunny day.
Im hoping for a time so my fingers are crossed for the weather.
I see its been won twice in 2hr 45 and last year in 2hr 56, so anywhere around that and ill be happy!

I beat him at the stagger by 4mins which is nice!
You should be fine fittness wise if you managed the stagger. That was a hard slog.
Harder terrain than the Cornish. (though shorter)
