Any benefit of creatine for marathon training

Hey everyone

Have signed up for my first ever marathon in April, have done a few half's ranging from 1:49 to 1:58.

Is there are benefit to be had from taking creatine or will it just make me slower?

Thanks in advance.

  • No point for marathon running.
  • caffeine is decent.

  • No. Do not take creatine for marathons. It will lead to weight gain and is only really good for sprinters, bodybuilders, etc. You don't want to bulk up for long distance running.

Creatine is generally considered to be a waste of time (but I'm sure you'll find some recommendations for it somewhere), but don't worry, running marathons opens up an entire new world of supplements that you've probably never heard of before to obsess over.

    Including, but not limited to:

Beetroot (juice, concentrate, natural or powdered)

    Vitamins

    Iron

    L-Carnitine

    BCAA (Branch Chain Amino Acids)

    Spirulina

    Conjugated Lineloic Acid

    Iron

    Whey protein

About a million different types & sources of carbs

    Caffeine

    Beta Analine

Feel free to experiment, but it can be a long and expensive road and can turn obsessive as you look for a better type of protein etc.

Personally I found beetroot, BCAA and caffeine to possibly offer some benefits (and of course carbs).
