Extreme pain on top of foot, what I am doing wrong?

Hi Guys,

I am just back from a 1.2 mile run and I am suffering from extreme pain on my left foot.

Its on the top of my foot and starts just below my toes and goes along the upper, outside of the foot. Its worse when I put weight on it to walk.

can anyone help shed light on this ? Its painful enough to stop the sport altogether if I cannot find a way around it.

Thanks,

D.

  • Do you have properly fitted running shoes?

See a physio if it is really that bad.

Are you a seasoned runner or just starting out?

Who cares, I'm in it for the medal!

  • My first thought would be that it's shoe-related. Are you shoe laces too tight? Is the tongue of the shoe sitting properly? Is there a tight feeling at the top of your foot before you set off? Are the shoes really old & battered?

  • Could it be a stress fracture if it's that bad? Does it hurt to walk even in bare feet? Is it swollen or very tender to touch/ bruised looking? If it is- go to your Dr or (even A&E, if it's so bad you can't walk properly.) Obviously no running until it's sorted- if it's not bad enough to go to A&E about, and if your GP isn't sure, then see a sports physio.
