Complete beginner - time to get fit

I got engaged at the end of last year, and my fiancée has decided I need to get fit for the wedding (she has a point). I don't particularly enjoy the gym, so said I needed a real reason to be going there - weight loss is dull. I (foolishly) said I needed something tangible to motivate me. Cue a Stroke Association promoted post on Facebook advertising their 5k resolution run. I had no arguments left, so was signed up for it and the gym in late December. 

The first visit to the gym was horrendous - I barely got to 2k on the treadmill. Forward 7 weeks and I'm now doing 5k regularly in roughly 36 minutes. The plan is working!

Did my first outdoor run last weekend - the 2k Great Run Local (actually 2.4k according to my Fitbit) in just over 16 minutes! Back there tomorrow, and the Resolution Run is next weekend - looking forward to my first medal!

the weight loss is working too - I'm down 10lbs, and need a new belt. Yay me!

Im looking for more 5k fun runs in the Newcastle area. Where's the best place to find these?
