Northumberland cts marathon 25th Feb advice

has anyone ran this event? And what trainers would you recommend  - I prefer my road shoes for cushioning but if it's going to be muddy I'm going to go with trail trainers... I have only ran upto about 13 miles in one go in these shoes though so being very indecisive! Anyone know what the route is like at the moment ?
