Jj, I have a screw kick too when swimming breaststroke, our club trainer told if I was to swim competitively I'd be disqualified. Lucky I only do tri and always race crawl isn't it?
Mercury you can't line up a great gag like that and then steal the punchline - people like myself and Candy would be outta work round here if everybody did that
<goes off to find another amusing one-line for "Whats a screw kick then ?">
In breastroke you should pull both knees up, push down and out, and kick just as your heels come together, that's where the real power for your stroke comes from. A 'screw kick' is when you are kicking before your heels come together. I had to practice a lot under the coach's eagle eye, being yelled at all the time, before I got it. Poor explanation I know but it's the best I can do. You need Pantman for the scientific low-down.
Have booked myself in for laser eye surgery on 10 september, will be able to swim 6 weeks after that, an opportunity to take up the hobby I used to love!
all i meant was that seeing as cats have nine lives and they have to fit those lives into one life and that means that for every one human year there must be nine cat years and that if you are just a couple of years older than 25 and that if those couple of years were cat years and not human years then that would make you err....
I can't ride a bike either Jj so you're not the only one!
I had a bike when I was ickle but my parents gave it away when I was on holiday with relatives one summer (oh the trauma!). Have since tried to get on one of my son's friends bikes and fallen off somewhat ungracefully, think it comes from being a rather unbalanced individual haha.
By the way, have input my laser surgery costs into my expenditure spreadsheet and my boyfriend is having a mini freakout session!
Jj - my sister-in-law is 46 and just learned to ride a bike after years of being scared to - as hubby and both kids ride, John and I do too, it was finally a case of if you can't beat 'em, join 'em - the last day of August is a bike day here in our area, the main road (Deutsche Weinstrasse) is closed to cars all day, about 120km. Everyone bikes or in-line skates up and down as far as they want, and there's lot of wine stands, food points, and music along the way. So Mary decided she's had enough, especially as her youngest now rides with the rest of us.

Tara, that's great news about your eyes.
Thing is, with the swimming - and cycling - I have nothing to 'go back to'. Never been able to do either. (
Never EVER had a bike, so never learned how to ride one. I'm still convinced people don't believe me.
:oD
