Hayfever or not? Congested and hard to breath when running

Good morning all

Just completed a 5km in under 24 mins and had to stop half way has couldn't breathe through my mouth as the nose was blocked and had to cough up phlegm. Throughout the run, I am constantly clearing my nose and spitting either clear or white phlegm, and the chest feels heavy. I get this quite often but worse recently so thinking it's hayfever related.

Wondering if anyone else gets like this? And if anyone has tips to help ease this as I love running and want to continue to run longer and more often :)

  • Take an antihistamine before your next run and if it helps there's a good chance it is hayfever and that you just need to take one a day whilst whatever is affecting you is in season.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

I was going to suggest the same thing - make sure you try a non sedating antihistamine, or perhaps easier, a nasal steroid spray like beconase. You can buy either over the counter. If it's all better, it's likely to be hay fever. Less likely if no improvement.
