Piriformis syndrome require rest?

Does piriformis syndrome necessitate rest, or is it more a case of stretching it out?
I get it off and on very few weeks. I run too varied routes to work out what's causing it, trail and road and in various shoes.
I had my first attack DURING a run the other day and took the next day off. I'm training for a HM at the moment and don't really want to miss days to rest if I can avoid it.
It seems to me that stretches etc would be more key to this thing than resting since it's not actually an injury, is that right?

I can't really afford to go to physiotherapy etc.

Any comments would be appreciated!

If you get it every few weeks there is an underlying cause. If you cant afford physio, go to your gp for nhs referral. That only takes 4-6 weeks.

It depends how bad it is as to whether it needs rest, but it is unlikely to get better without some intervening act such as physio or rest.

OH, and you might get a more precise answer if you post in the health and injury section.

  • Thanks for that.

I thought I had put it in the injury forum! Stupid me!
