Is using a pace calculator a good method to train based of?

Typically I'm talking about the Runners World one here - https://www.runnersworld.com/pace-calculators/training-paces

I'm also sure there are others out there on the web.

Up to now I've always used heart rate to monitor my slow and easy runs etc; but typically also use the conversational pace method to help direct my pace for my slower easy runs.

When I type in my fastest time for 1 mile on this calculator, the actual pace for my slow runs is actually pretty accurate. Just wondering if this is something worth training based off? The other day I used this calculator to calculate my tempo run pace and assume it was accurate?

If you're on form then yes the RW and Macmillan calls can tell you a decent pace. I find I'm never 5k and marathon fit at the same time as the training is different, but it gives an idea of the pace I should be training for over longer distances based on my race paces at shorter. It's just then a matter of getting fit and doing the training.
