Running in rain

Doing the Cardiff Half Marathon at the weekend. Forecast is now for heavy rain. Just wondered what people's thoughts are on waterproof jackets during a long run? I know some don't bother. I normally wear a baselayer with my running shirt on top. Never run for a long time in heavy rain.

I have and would def wear one of those very lightweight "shiny yellow" jackets to prevent other clothing becoming sopping wet and heavy.

I would only wear one if it was wet and very cold on a slowish training run and never in a race. You'll just get wet with sweat underneath no matter how lightweight the jacket is. Forecast is not cold, just wet so I'd be wearing a vest as usual, maybe using a bin bag to discard at the start. It's looking windy too so you'd want to be getting covered up quickly afterwards.

For an autumn half the most you'll need will be a tech T.  A cap is very useful to keep the rain out of your eyes - unless very windy and then a beanie is better.

As long as you're warm you will find getting wet doesn't really matter.

When you stop running it will be vital to put extra layers on straightaway to avoid getting chilled.

i know few people will be delighted at a heavy rain forecast, but it will help with the overheating that comes if you push yourself

Definitely won't be pushing it. First one so will just be happy to get around

How did it go Stu? 
Glasgow half was sodden wet today, but actually very enjoyable. A bit slippy under foot in places but at least the breeze was light compared to the forecast. Single layer all the way though.
