Saturday 3rd of February 2018 - To get stones from a rock, you've got to break it

Morning.

Lyrics - To get stones from a rock, you've got to break it

Hope it all goes well OH.

I don't think I'd persuade Mark to go that far Alehouse - Retford looks as though it may be a possibility though.

Heavy sleet and rain forecast for this morning - lovely. Waiting to hear from P whether he still wants to run with me or not.

What:          an easy run of some description
Why:           out for an Indian this evening
Last hard:   waiting out the winter
Last rest:    24/1

Yesterday's lyrics - Don't Stop Me Now by Queen.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

  • Sitting out the bad weather too.  Last night's rain has frozen and there's sleet right now. Nice....was hoping  for 10 miles but we'll see. Our road is an ice rink at the moment.
  • Morning!

    Lyrics: no

What: not a lot apart from consultant appointment at 3

Why: acute T7 compression fracture needs putting right. Wonder how long that will take.

LMH: Retford would be a good choice! Four weeks of good training and then an easy week before seeing where you are at?
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
  • 12 miles done.  The sleet never stopped but it wasn't very windy and only a bit slippery so I had no excuse really.
  • What's the likely treatment Alehouse? I've entered Retford:-)

Cold and wet here but fortunately the sleet went through earlier and it's not windy or icy - glad you were able to get out chicksta.

Pacing buddy duties at parkrun this morning 2 of us to get 25:00 so the garmin was stopped at 24:59:70 - happy days (and even the results didn't claim the parkrun Tax and had us down as 24:59.

Followed that up with 3 easy with Mrs RFJ and then a further 4.25 easy as (but faster) , so 10.41 for the day

That after a late night seeing Rend Collective at Bath Forum last night

    OH thinking of you

    Take care
  • Well done Chick!

    Good pacing RFJ!

Appointment is at 3, LMH. And glad Retford is booked: good to have a focus.

I saw that your appointment was at 1500hrs Alehouse but wondered if your GP had discussed possible treatment options? I don't need a race in the diary to get out and run and it won't change my training - but it will be interesting to find out if things are as bad as I think they are, all things being equal of course.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.
  • Afternoon

    What: 8 miles
    Why: Body tired
    last hard: this morning
    Lyrics: Yes

Looking forward to the Rugby come on Wales:-)
    ALF: Always a little further
    Miles makes smiles.
    Progression
  • Afternoon!

Think positively, LMH: when you pin a number on you may well be in a better place fitness-wise than you think you currently are!

GP has an open mind and she wants to see what the two consultants have to say, which I feel is sensible. The one thing that she did mention was that the calcium and vitamin D tablets that I have taken since 2004 may not be sufficient and we will perhaps be looking at a different treatment, possibly biphosphates.

So, consultant number one, the guy I was seeing about my Achilles injury. Had a long discussion about my medical history and possible osteopenia or osteoporosis which cannot be determined without further testing (dexa scan). Showed me the scan of the very clear fracture at T7. Said it is not unusual and recovery is usually good. Asked for bloods to be taken to check vitamin D levels. He echoed the possibility of biphosphates. He also said I need to be taking gentle exercise and has dictated a letter to the physio regarding gentle and appropriate stretching. Must not neglect the Achilles (I have been) and should use the exercise bike and gradually introduce swimming. I came out feeling very optimistic, although he did suggest that it is likely to be 6 to 8 weeks before any running (on top of the 4 weeks since it is possible that the fracture occurred).

Consultant two on Tuesday pm: cancer specialist who has been asked to see if there is any link between the fracture and any cancer that may be lurking. Hopefully he will order a bone scan or bone density (dexa) scan. Unlikely to be anything sinister, apparently, but everything needs to be considered given the prostate history.

No apologies for the above being longer than many a race report!

SC: hope you enjoyed the rugby...despite the result! I'm sure you did, WP!

    Hiya
Ale - sounds a comprehensive medical review, sounds like nothing to worry about just yet , lets see how Tuesday goes
    LmH - yay, a race.
WP - you must be pleased with the result this afternoon!
OH - hope the gathering goes well and the send off goes well

    What - 20.4 miles
    Why - long run
    last rest - 15/12
last hard - I guess I should say today but was actually ok (8.50s ave)
What wasn't nice was the non stop drizzle. If it was a the expected 4c it certainly didn't feel that cold.
    lyric - possibly
  • I am Alehouse - don't know if it sounded differently. That doesn't sound too bad - how do you feel about it all? A shame the BioBank didn't do your scans.

    Nice long run Dustin.

Cautiously optimistic, LMH...but don't want to get ahead of myself with Tuesday being the more important appointment. And it is indeed a shame about Bio Bank.

Ale, must be hard going through what your are encountering, praying for you. Glad you have some answers.

    Good long run Dustin
  • That's quite a lot to take in, AH.
Also difficult to take 8w without running. Hope tomorrow's appointment goes well. Be aware that scans may not give conclusive answers here.
