Serious 10k training

Been challenged to run 10k sometime this week. Last few week I’ve been doing some running though been bit as and when I am out with my dog and feel like it. Been practicing up slight hills shorter runs and did a 6.5 km run. Now a woman I know has challenged me to run 10k this week which I will do my best to do as I have got a session with a person who runs a lot of marathons. He’s been on cautious side with me running all time and doesn’t look like he’s going to change. He said end of this month we’d run 8k I’ve told him I’m going to try to run 10k before I run with him and he’s still saying we will run 5 mile now which is 0.05 over 8k. Tho he did say that and see how I get on so maybe do more if I can manage which I hope I can and need to for April 10k.
