Southern Track League tomorrow on the South Coast. Still short of 2x steeplechasers and 1x5k runners. I'll be going along so if we're still short, guess I'm number pinning. Monday is vets league when again we argue over who's turn it is to avoid the steeplechase...

I'm glad you enjoyed the run OH.
I'd love to try the steeplechase Dustin but I don't think I'd get over the barriers - I remember them being really high when I was running track (though I was a junior then). I quite fancy having a go at the high jump too but the track and field club locally is rather expensive and a bit too serious for me to go along and play.

So, if I'm not doing the marathon in a few weeks I need to decide what I am going to do. Autumn marathon wise I think the choice is Hull or Lancaster as we go to Florida at the end of September an October marathon is out.

I know sitting is the worst thing but its hard not to in my job and I have the drive each end of the day. If you work for a small company the likelihood is you just come in when things like this happen, we're short in the office too so I just have to get on with it!

Go for it, SC. You never know, there may be two SBs coming your way this weekend. A parkrun is easily forgiven by the body
LMH: Or you could just ditch marathon plans for this year and focus on those shorter distances and speed instead. I think there are a few PBs to be had Then attack VLM 2019 prep with fresh legs and a vengeance and that sub 2:55 is in the bag.
What: progression run on treadmill (12.5k in 59:49 -- the bloody thing always stops at 60 mins)

On my shorter runs 8 miles and under I target a segment which is uphill only 0.29 5% gradient and today I knocked another few seconds off I am 53 seconds behind First lady and course record.Little things please little minds

Progression
She has backtracked from the insole advice and is now recommending increasing cadence to reduce ground contact time and upping weekly training mileage.
After 6.5 miles again last night my feet are sore again and I am hobbling.
Do not really think I can or want to increase my mileage at present (128 Apr, 120 May, 80 so far for Jun) and my feet are sore when training. Catch 22.
I feel despondent.
You probably need to try the most cushioned shoes on the market. I'm fine in Hokas but I understand you already run in them. Maybe there's other brands / models or fancy insoles that could help. Fingers crossed.

Poppy: Mr Chick is doing well, thanks. Heart function almost back to normal. There's minimal damage and that will never go away. You can actually see it on the ultrasound - there's a tiny bit right at the bottom that doesn't contract or expand like the rest of the heart. Cardiologist is happy with progress and thinking about phasing some of the medication out (he's on 8 different drugs at the mo ). He also got the all clear to do whatever he likes in terms of exercise as long as he listens to the body carefully and stops if anything feels odd.

Ghana was cancelled for visa reasons, mainly by the time I got one the ship would be ready to sail, thats typical of the London office, always last minute and no concept of the time needed to get visa's etc.
OH: Why not just try buying some gel forefoot insoles and giving them a go. I'm with Chick trying to change your running style later in life isn't going to work.
LMH: Do you have to do an autumn marathon?

What: Cycled 45 miles and a 23% hill , the hill isn't that long (6 mins for me) but it is bloody steep!

OH - that's a bit contradictory. I have increased cadence and found it helps in many ways, that may be worth a try. I'm guessing that you're icing post run? Strange that both feet went at once and at a time when you hadn't drastically increased mileage/changed your trainers or whatever. How old are the shoes you've been running in? I'm sorry if none of this is helpful, I'm sure you've probably thought of most of it.
It sounds as though you're really enjoying your running Poppy.

Of course I don't have to do an autumn marathon but I enjoy marathon running and training, especially through the summer. Even if I decided to focus on the shorter stuff I'd still run a 20 every couple of weeks at least and would not be indulging in any of this speed work or other nonsense. Trying to play to my strengths I guess.

very worried about jodie actually, she is so tired and achy and now her gums are aching. This is not a good sign from lowering the steroids so I am urging her to get get her blood tested soon.
LMH I have tried to stand as much as I can but a standing desk sort of thing wont happen overnight? I hope the weekend will see the back settle right down, I now get why my brother questioned coming to work with this back....

LMH: I understand fully your issues with coaching/advising! I had too many years of people not doing what was asked. It was as often too much rather than too little.
And things like, "I didn't run because I had a blister."
"Show me"...quickly followed by me asking for a microscope.
OH: over time I have moved to a slightly different camp re cushioned shoes following my Achilles op in particular where the surgeon and his physio both recommended lighter shoes coupled with ankle flexibility and Achilles strengthening work. One argument with the more cushioned shoes is that they are more stable and tend to lead to repeating the same action more rather than the foot move more naturally. If I remember correctly LMH has moved to a lighter shoe in recent years and wonder what her views are. I wouldn't go to the lightest models but something mid range like Asics DS trainer.
So, hydrotherapy session which worked both the back and the knees. The back is getting stronger, both the physio and I feel; the knee was rather painful despite being under water so far less load on it. Funnily enough the last time I had a knee injury was when I used to steeplechase! I would steer clear of that event! And Chick, yes, they are high...but you will never knock one over! You certainly know it when you hit one!
Alehouse - no danger of P overdoing things I'm afraid. I'm not sure my experience of moving to a lighter shoe is relevant to OH but it certainly doesn't seem to have caused me any issues.
Not a lot of half marathons of 10ks about to choose from I could do Erewash again but that isn't an official course so no use for a PB, there is Newark but it's a long drive for just a half. The two local 10ks are on Friday evenings - again not great for PB attempts.
Hurdles and steeplechase are a discipline which I regard as near impossible.
My shoe choice greatly limited by foot width.
Am going to go with insoles with greater cushioning meantime.
Doubt if it would be wise to take monthly mileage much higher just now.
