  • Hello again everyone, it'll probably take a wee ehile to get to know all the names in here! The RFL for my town is not on this year, which is a bit disappointing. The nearest one is 75 miles away so I'll not be going to do that one.

Still following my run/walk programme, did 50 mins 3/2 yesterday and covered 4 1/2 miles. Today is my rest day but I have a big day looming on Sunday! Following a 40 minute run on Friday I have 2 hours to do on Sunday.

My main problem with this is that I have been doing most of my work on treadmill but on Sunday I'll be away with my kids and family in the country and the place we are going is hilly to say the least.

    I'll do me best!

Have a good day everyone will check in later.

    Ginger
  • PS can anyone show me how to upload a photo to this bloomin site! Everything I try it says its too big.

  • ginger - you need to copy the image into paint - then go to skew/stretch (I think) and play around with the size until you get it small enough. Sorry if thats a bit vague I managed to do it but not really very teccy!!
  • Hi all, just a quick one as just back. Blackpool was hell on earth!! At 4 miles thought I was going to have an asthma attack, and was going to just stop, really felt due to the heat and lack of water could not go on. But somehow walk/jogged from then on and got in 2.28.25, don't know what official time was, another pw! Don't feel so bad now that I have read that there was a 39% drop out.

    Good luck Sunday Marion!
  • Hi Cotty!! :2:28 sounds pretty good i'd say! Well done you!

We were thinking about you and wondered how you'd coped in the heat. What did you make of the organisation? It was getting a real slating in the events forum for a few days. But seems folk have realised it was down to the weather more than the organisation.

    Have you fully recovered?

Thanks for the lucky wishes for sundays RFL. Pretty feeble compared to the efforts of some on this forum! only a measly 5k!

Haven't done much training this week but have been 2 'robics classes and a couple of 4-6 mile cycles so am fighting fit. My only concern is the weather but it won't be 30 degrees like Blackpool was so i shant complain!!!

Wonder if Jammie is running tomorrow?? is she lurking!?
  • Hi Marion,

I thought the worst part apart from the heat was the delay at the start, but that was outwith there control, but I stood from 8.40 until 9.45, and mentally it was not good, I also was really thirsty and hot!! There was no water by the time I got to the first water station, but there was an additional one close by, therefter there seemed to be quite a few, could have done with more. My biggest problem was the heat, people are saying it was 30 degrees, and as you know up here you don't get much chance to run in that. But hubby has decided whilst on holiday to get fit again and is going to do it next year and so am I!!

Let us know how you get on today!
  • Hi sorry, meant to say well done speedy, I bet you are pleased with your time.
  • Hi everyone,

Had a cr@p week not run anywhere near as much as planned. Had awful run on fri night legs felt like lead and got pins and needles and numbness in left leg for most of run, think it's just fluid retention. Been on a dairy free diet for a while and hadn't had any fluid probs but had been getting gradually worse over the last few weeks and pmt had returned. Discovered hayfever tablets that been taking for last few weeks have lactose in them so think it may be them.

Stopped taking them on Friday and feeling bit better. Managed to run 15km on sat. Got bellybutton pierced on sat afternoon, so gave running a miss today, thought I'd give it an extra day to heal before I try wearing joggies or shorts that might irritate it, will have to cover it with dressing b4 I run just in case.

Wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to tie a double knot in my drawstring to hold joggies in place as my 'had a baby bumbag belly' wobbles so much and tries to escape from my joggers when I run, and joggies would fall down if weren't securely fastened. Rest of my tummy is fine just that bit at the bottom of it, otherwise I could wear low rise joggers and bellybutton would be fine.

    ;0)
  • lol @ tangerine! i have got one of those baby bum bag things too!!!
Trouble is all the other bits of me are flabby too, excluding perhaps my mid thighs downwards!!

RFL went reasonably well today. It was hot hot hot so i ran 2k, then walked for 1k then ran the last 2k. Not as i hoped but i relly enjoyed the latter part of the race cause i'd taken the pressure off myself. I'd given my running buddy permission to run on without me. came in 39:04 according to my watch. Which is not a PB, as i did 37:49last year. But hey ho!

  • Congratulations Marion on your RFL. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself!

I'm so pleased the way my run/walking is going. I had my long run on Saturday and was supposed to go for 2 hours but my hubby picked me up at 1.45. There was a good reason for this!

I've been doing most of my runs on the treadmill and was a bit scared to do the run on the roads but this week, as it was so long, I decided to hit the roads.

Where I live is quite hilly so I got him indoors to drive out after me to see if I was alright.

I felt good but tired and decided not to kill myself so I just did the shorter time.. I ended up run/walking 9 miles which is the furthest I've ever done in my life so I'm well chuffed.

Got three shorter runs this week (all 40 - 55 minutes long) and then on Sunday I do 2 hours 20 minutes.

I would really reccommend this programme. It gives you hope of running long distances.

Thats all for now, will check in later, have a good day everyone.

    Gina
  • Hi everyone

Well I did it - RFL went really well and I mangaged to run the whole way. It was absolutely baking, the start was delayed by 45 mins which meant that we set off at 11.45 and the sun was beating down. The heat really played a part, I was trying to aim for about 30 mins but due to the heat and the fact that the first 3K was all uphill!! (I had never even run up a hill before ) took their toll and my time was 35 mins and 13 secs, I am still very pleased with it though.

Well done on your RFL Marion.

I have tentatively thought about enterging a 10k at the end of september but I am going to see how my running goes over the next month or so before I commit to it. But I can safely say that I am hooked on this running malarky!!
  • Also Cotty, just wanted to say blooming well done on the Blackpool half, from the reviews it sounded like a real tough one with lack of water and the heat. I take my hat off to you - I can only dream about running a half marathon at the moment, maybe next year?!
  • Well done Marion and Purpleangie on your RFL!

Purpleangie I think you would be okay to do a 10k in September, I always think it is good to have another goal. I might do a 10k in August then I have the GNR in September.
  • hi there - like the idea of big girls who run - I have been running for about a year and am doing some respectable distances several times a week, some speed work and lots of hills - here is my problem - I am NOT losing weight! I look as if I am but Im not. Everyone gives me this muscle is heavier than fat malarky but by any BMI standard I am clinically obese. Help! Please can someone tell me how to get lighter before my knees pack their bags and walk out
  • Beachcomber - afraid it's the usual boring old stuff. Eat the right foods and less cals. Assuming ur not already, if u r and still not losing go to doc.

Try writing down what u eat each day for a week and see if it's more or less than u thought. What u eat is very important, if ur eating right stuff u shouldn't feel hungry all the time. This could be the prob especially as ur exercising, theoretically if ur exercising a lot u should be able to eat as much as u like, but only if it's the right kinds of food.( Complex carbs, protein, healthy fat and loads of fruit and veg) (NO sugar or processed crap) Running will make you hungry and if u feed that hunger with sugary processed crap u will only get hungrier and not lose weight.

Giving myself a good lecture there as much as anyone else ;0).

Need to be 10st and am determined to be so! Put it here and I will have to do it! Hope to report back before my big family holiday in sept that its done, mind you how nmuch will go back on after that hol I wonder??????
I am also keeping an eye on what I have everyday cos I tend to think, 'Oh I run so I can have this flapjack etc'!
possunt quia posse videntur - we can because we know we can

possunt quia posse videntur - we can because we know we can
  • Galloway actually advocates this way of doing marathons and I listened to 2 guys before the Blackpool marathon and they were talking about it. In fact if they had not been speaking about it I probably won't have managed to complete the Blackpool half!
  • Hi everyone - havent managed a run for a couple of days due to being manic at work - and off on holiday tomorrow for a week so will be tough when I get back!

Look forward to reading the threads on my return.

  • Hi folks. Not been around much lately due to hubby disconnecting the router that allows me to get on the internet on my computer downstairs while he is on his upstairs. Seemingly his new on line game will not work while I am connected. So I have kicked him off while I tried to catch up on everyone.

Well done all who have ran lately. Cotty well done on Blackpool you were well ahead of me. It was hard in the heat wasn't it.

Off to do the Corriearyck Challenge this weekend. 17 mile hill walk/run and 26 mile cycle. Looking at taking about 7 - 8 hours. This will be hard. 43 miles in all. Will let you all know how I get on when I get back on Sunday.

Have now managed to loose 1st 8 lbs although this has taken me since January but it is coming off. Only another 3.5 stone to go.
  • Well done Speedy on what you have lost that is great! That is some challenge ahead of you this weekend!! Are you doing the Pitreavie 10k? I am thinking about it, could be no harder than Balmoral or Lumphanan.

I have never experienced anything as hard as Blackpool, it was just soo hot!! Have been reading the threads, I hope they don't decide against having it again, although I hated it at the time, would like to do it again!

Have you heard that they are thinking of having a Dundee Marathon next year, it coukd be my first?!? It would be so easy logistically compared to all the others, we don't really have anyone to leave the kids with and the youngest is to clingy to be without me, so having one that you only had to drive for an hour would be great.

How is everyone else? It has been so quiet here recently. I have not done much this week, a 30 minuter Mon, a timed 5.5k run Wed and hoping to do 10 Saturday morning. Really sunny here been gardening all afternoon, now time for bath and BB!!
  • Hi there everyone!

Gosh it is quiet around here! I guess everyone is watching Big Brother. i'm trying not to, on point of principal but sometimes i can't help myself.

Last night the live streaming on E4 was postively pornagraphic! i was filing my feet at the time, so it was highly inappropriate!! Lol

Not much to report on the running front. Since RFL last sunday we decide to have a week off. I have been out cycling, loads and been to 'robics as usual.

Now we are back on track for running again. watch this space!

ooh have just had my hols and havent ran for 2 weeks, going tonight and feel like large girl who has never ran in her life!! am not going on scales for a few weeks...lol and the other girls who think like me, ohh i run so i can have a pack of crisps and a chocolate bar with sandwich!!
  • ?? bizzarre post from rjh!

Anyway, hope everyone is doing ok. It's been very quiet around here lately.

I'm at work this evening, if anyone wants to post, they'll be guarunteed a reply until 9pm!

  • Hi Marion sorry to have missed you, its been soo quiet here lately hasn't it. How is your running coming along? I have not done much lately last 2 runs have felt like jelly legs and getting a stich maybe coming down with something. Going to go out Saturday and see if any better.

Lovely day here nice and sunny had been planning to do a couple of races before GNR, but not sure now, think can enter on the day anyway. Have orderd a garmin forerunner 201, I am sooo excited it is going to be my new training partner!!
  • Hi everyone - just back from hols and have done nothing but eat and drink for over a week and havent run for two!

Hoping to go for a run tommorrow - will let you know how I get on!
  • Hi everyone! Did Falkirk Race for Life today was very, very hot and first 2.5km felt more like vertical climb than a hill. But by some miracle managed 27min 25sec, don't know how, must have flew down the downhill bit faster than I thought.

Downhill bits were bit scary cos they were very gravelly so was going as fast as i could in the hope that i wouldn't slip and do the splits, ouch!

But all in all it was quite enjoyable, once it was over, lol. Just a pity about the 'think you are going to die' hill at the beginning, and i'm used to running hills as there is nowhere flat round my area.

    ;0)
  • Well done tangerine - excellent time for 5K.

Have you thought what your next challenge will be? I am going to go for a 10K around september or october I think. :/
  • Hello everyone...haven't posted for a while, I'm still continuing with the run/walk programme and I am so pleased with the results. So far my longest run has been for 2 hours and 20 and I ran for 12 miles!! This is really blowing me away!! Ran 9 yesterday in 1 hour 30 mins. My first event is in September the 10th and is a half marathon. I'm then doing the Dublin marathon on 31st October ...my birthday!!

Its funny i thought the weight would be dropping off me, but so far the scales are not moving. But my clothes are most definetly getting looser. I would rather be losing weight too though. Maybe I'm still eating too much. It doesn't feel like it though. Anyone else had this experience? I do 4 runs a week. 3 short (3.5 - 5 miles) and one long anything up to the 12 miles mentioned above. Don't you think I should be skinny by now!! Will check in later.
  • Purple- I'm doing the Great Scottish Run 10k in sept and another 10k in oct. Registered for GSR when I did Brittannic Asset 10k but wishing I'd put in for half marathon now.

I run 21k at weekend on my long run so know I could do it easy. Can't be gassed going through the hassle to change it though and my friend who runs all the races with me couldn't manage the half just now so don't want to abandon her.

I would happily do the half myself, as did GSR 10k myself last year as pal was injured, but think she might give up on 10k if I wasn't dragging her along.

She has promised to do half marathon next year though and I'm thinking about doing the Edinburgh marathon next year too.

Short term goals are just to get faster so have just started doing VO2max and Tempo runs, got myself a GPS gizmo so that know I'm running at right pace etc and enjoying it.

Only probs just now is the heat, was looking forward to running anytime I wanted to this week and last as off on holiday but going to have to get up at crack of dawn anyway cos of heat.

Ginger- Try keeping a little diary of measurements and see how many inches you have lost.
